Man, believed to be N. Korean, takes refuge at Japan Embassy in Laos

TOKYO, March 28 (AP) - (Kyodo)—A man who appears to be a defector from North Korea took refuge at the Japanese Embassy in the Laotian capital of Vientiane on Thursday, a Japanese government source confirmed Friday.

He won’t need luck as he will probably be given an income for life. However whatever extended family he has remaining in North Korea are probably headed for the work camps and biological test studies.

By Whom? Probably the South Koreans as that is usually where these folks end up. The South Korean government usually sets them up with money, an apartment and usually a job. Depends on the situation of course but they typically don’t have to worry too much.

I didn’t know SK was even letting them in. Thanks for the info. Do you know where I could read up on this? Given my ID, I guess I should know more about this.

South Korea usually welcomes them with open arms from what I’ve seen. Many times it will be done quietly so as not to damage the relationship with North Korea.

I don’t have a definite source, just from what I’ve seen in the news and learned in my trips there.
