McCain Wants 100 Years of War?

McCain Wants 100 Years of War?

Even in politics, it's seldom that you see such a dirty lie.

Asked at a New Hampshire campaign stop about possibly staying in Iraq 50 years, John McCain interrupted — “Make it a hundred” — then offered a precise analogy to what he envisioned: “We’ve been in Japan for 60 years. We’ve been in South Korea for 50 years or so.” Lest anyone think he was talking about prolonged war-fighting rather than maintaining a presence in postwar Iraq, he explained: “That would be fine with me, as long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed.”

maintaining a U.S. military presence in Iraq would provide regional stability, as well as cement a long-term allied relationship with the most important Arab country in the region.

And provide us a helluva stepping off point if we get into a fight with Iran.

The democrats are being deceptive, but it is hardly a dirty lie. After all, McCain wrongly attacked Romney for allegedly having a “timetable to withdraw” from Iraq. Based on his comments and his attack on Romney, one could legitimately surmise that McCain would be willing to have us in Iraq for one hundred years, in war or peace.

McCain was the hawk on the Iraq war to win the nomination. Clearly, it benefited him greatly. It may bite him in the butt in the general election.

Sadly, thats not true. With the "mainstream" press, which is to say the DNC propaganda mills, its one right after another, its non-stop. If you get your news from mainstream sources you have to have a long memory and the exegetical powers of a rabbi to have any idea what the truth really is.

Which is why I appreciate FR so much. Its still basically just mainstream news articles, but from multiple sources set side by side you can easily dissect and compare them. With the archive feature, what was flushed down the memory hole can be easily called back with a couple of clicks. That, and I've got lots of pals here, some of whom have longer memories than I do.

I look forward to McCain responding to the charge has he has already explained himself. The democratic candidate, if they ever get one, will certainly look foolish after that.

So, he’s in favor of staying in Iraq if and only if nobody there is shooting at us? Hokay....

..and what's the chance of that happening? Muslims are only happy when they are shooting or lopping off heads.

Well, we’ve been in Cuba since the Spanish-American War (1898) and he figures that is now time to pull the plug on it...so, 100 years is just fine with me.

Business as usual for the ‘grasping for straws’ Dems.

McCain is a narcissistic kook, and should be semi ignored as such. He may blow up and get us in a war, but he is influenced by what liberals think of him, so the war should be short lived, more like a hundred days than a hundred years, and more like a thousand temper tantrums than a thousand wars. McCain is dangerous, but he is going to kill us with bad policies, not bad wars.

McCains's been misquoted. He didn't say "100 years of war."

But all the Democrats have to say is: "Elect John McCain and get 100 years in Iraq.”

There's no misquoting there, and it makes the point they want.

Unfortunately, politicians are responsible for the interpretations people make of their words.

Somewhere in the world at this very moment, Al Gore is explaining for the ten-thousandth time that he didn't actually claim to have "invented the Internet," but it's not doing him any good.

Another willful victim of media brainwash.

McCain has clarified what he mean by that “100 year” comment time and time again - but those who don't want to see the light - keep their eyes shut.

Looking back at the last 1,400 years, I’d say it’s likely we will be at war with Islam for the next 100 years. Better in Iraq than Detroit although bot locations seem likely battlefields.

“McCain Wants 100 Years of War?”

I think that was his “attempt” to pander to Conservatives as to what he “thinks” we are.
