Log Cabin [Republicans] miffed at Howard Dean's remarks
Yahoo! News ^ | March 27, 2008

SUMMARY: He says: "Who in their right mind, if they were African-American or Hispanic or Asian-American, if they were gay or lesbian, would join the Republican Party?"

Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean came under attack for speaking out against conservative gay men and lesbians as well as Republicans of color.

"They can't become more diverse," Dean said Tuesday at a speech at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. "Who in their right mind, if they were African-American or Hispanic or Asian-American, if they were gay or lesbian, would join the Republican Party?"

The Log Cabin Republicans issued a statement Wednesday against Dean's comments. The group's president, Patrick Sammon, said in the statement that Dean's assertions are insulting to African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian-Americans or gay men and lesbians who support the Republican Party.

Sammon also called for Democratic presidential candidates Hillary Clinton's and Barack Obama's stances on Dean's words.

"Gov. Dean needs to explain his callous assertion," said Sammon. "It's unfortunate that the chairman of the Democratic Party would rather divide people than engage in a thoughtful debate about policy ideas or a vision for our country's future."

Dean is involved in a lawsuit by the party's former LGBT outreach director, Donald Hitchcock. The suit claims that party officials discriminated against him and his partner, Democratic activist Paul Yandura, who criticized the Democratic National Committee for not being proactive on LGBT issues.

Nothing like insulting members of your base: Is Howard Dean taking lessons from John McCain?

"Hispanics"?... Maybe he means Mexicans or more like Illegal Aliens. "Hispanic" or even "Latino" (laborer, 'no speak English') are labels you have to use carefully.

:)

Dr. Dean needs to worry about settling his rat fight before July 1.

I might ask, who in his right mind that is white and possesses a working pair of testicles would join the Democratic Party?

That’s like a gazelle joining a pride of lions

The more Howard Dean we see in the press, yapping his brainless, hate-filled head off, the better. Go Howard GO!

Yeah, I was going to say, using Dean’s logic, who in their right mind who pays taxes, loves America and believes in God would ever join the Democratic Party?

If african-Americans were taught history, instead of listening to the garbage spewed from their race-baiting “pastors” they would NEVER be Demoncrats. The democrat party lead the way in fighting against abolishing slavery, and furthering the civil rights movement.

Read the following from a thoughtful and patriotic afican-American woman: http://www.lincolnheritage.org/About_Us/Resources/Weekly_Magazine/New_Articles/An_Open_Letter_to_the_Democrat/an_open_letter_to_the_democrat.html

What on earth would Howard Dean presume to know about how people in their right mind behave? He sure ain’t a member of that club.

I’m picturing Howie this summer in Denver, looking like Kevin Bacon in the middle of the melee at the end of the movie Animal House (”Remain calm!”) as all hell breaks loose around him and he gets stampeded.

Sane people of any color or sexual preference know that anything is better than thinking and acting like a Rat. Too bad we don’t have more sane people around, so we could have something besides Democrats running.

Or what person of faith, in his or her right mind, would join the Democratic Party?

Or what patriotic American, in his or her right mind, would join the Democratic Party?

Or what businessperson or hardworker, in his or her right mind, would join the Democratic Party?

Or what freedomloving American, in his or her right mind, would join the Democratic Party?

Need I go on?

"Who in their right mind [etc., etc., etc.] would join the Republican Party?"

Pretty much anyone, I should think. "In their right mind" is the operative phrase here, not any particular group identity.
