New York, 28 March (AKI) - United Nations secretary general Ban Ki-moon on Friday strongly condemned the posting to the Internet of a film by rightwing Dutch politician Geert Wilders, describing it as offensively anti-Islamic, while he also called on those upset by the film to remain calm.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson after Thursday's posting by Wilders of the film, entitled Fitna, to a video-sharing website, Ban (photo) said: "There is no justification for hate speech or incitement to violence. The right of free expression is not at stake here."
I acknowledge the efforts of the Dutch Government to stop the broadcast of this film and appeal for calm to those understandably offended by it. Freedom must always be accompanied by social responsibility.
The UN is seeking to play a pivotal role in global efforts to advance mutual respect, understanding and dialogue between different cultures, religions and groups, he noted.
We must also recognise that the real fault line is not between Muslim and western societies, as some would have us believe, but between small minorities of extremists, on different sides, with a vested interest in stirring hostility and conflict.
In 2005 Spain and Turkey established the Alliance of Civilisations under the auspices of the UN to promote better cross-cultural relations around the world. Ban appointed the former Portuguese president Jorge Sampaio last year as the alliance's top representative.
"I lead the UN;
Possess no gonads;
Who am I?"
EVERYTHING IN THAT MOVIE WAS SAID BY A MUSLIM.
How does replaying what they say constitute hate speech????
obviously he has not seen it,
it is islam in its own words.
condemn the video and you condemn islam
I don't think the Founders would agree. We wouldn't exist if it weren't for incitement to violence.
Take a clue, Ki-Moon, the only hate speech and incitement of violence" is from those IN the film, not those making it.
It is not "hate speech" to state the truth.
The producer is not saying anything in the film He merely strung together the REAL hate and the REAL call to violence as filmed, spoken, perpetrated by the Islamofasists.
I've been around too long. I have a hard time understanding how people - and they are legion - can switch the onus of hate and violence from the violent haters to the people who are trying to save the world, literally, by exposing them...
What right has the UN to tell people what speech they can say or can’t say? And I strongly doubt they would be so solicitous of anti-Christian hate speech, or else they would be chastising Rosie O’Donnell, Elton John, etc., etc.
Why do we give them a nickle ?
Is it just me, or is the UN increasingly being used as a tool of Islam? How much longer before the UN endorses Islam as the official religion of Global Submission, er....Peace?
Bull S***
its all about free speech you stupid turkey
Here is a site that has the movie.
How can truth be an incitement to violence?
We should make it a top priority to see that this movie is distributed far and wide.
ping...
You nailed it. Bravo.
“The UN is seeking to play a pivotal role in global efforts to advance mutual respect, understanding and dialogue between different cultures, religions and groups, he noted...”
He needs to be locked in a room and forced to watch the MEMRI video’s over and over again...
