Republican presidential candidate John McCain launched his first television ad of the general election on Friday.
It portrays the 71-year-old Arizona senator as a courageous leader with the knowledge and experience to keep the country safe as a wartime commander in chief.
For now, the ad will run only at a strong level throughout the swing state of New Mexico.
Other states will follow in the coming weeks.
McCain has lagged far behind his Democratic rivals in fundraising -- and that money would finance ads.
In February, Democratic Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton raised more than $80 million. McCain raised $11 million and had just $8 million cash on hand.
insert WTF?!? + CAT
In addition to targeting ads in battleground states, I wish the campaigns would run some ads nationally too. In Texas we hardly have any presidential ads till the week before elections.
HA HA Texican! ;)
Well, I guess McCain might as well lie along with the rest of ‘em.
It ain't for lack of asking. Everytime he sends me a plea, I tell him to try the moderates and Democrats to whom he is always reaching out. Then, there are the hordes of illegal aliens he was going to dump on us. Has he tried asking any of them?
“Democratic Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton raised more than $80 million. McCain raised $11 million and had just $8 million cash on hand.”
They may have crossed over and voted for him but they sure as heck aren’t putting their money where their mouth is.
He should just lay low and under the radar for a while yet.......no ads. The longer the other two are beating each other up and taking the spotlight the better.
Glad a local replied. Got a question. Why start there? I thought NM has gone GOP for the last umpteen Prez. Elections? Is it turning into a swing state for what, 9 or 10 Electoral votes?
I think even Dole won NM vs. Clintoon? :oP
I'm John McCain and I was a prisoner in Viet Nam.
Let's get beyond it please. As an old soldier, I find this to be old news. He paid the price in the ‘70’s but that too is old news. Many kids who will be voting this November have no notion of what Viet Nam was even about. Focus on the issues that matter. McCain is NOT the right man for the job - especially after the dog-sh*t speech he gave the other day about his proposed foreign policy. He's got a lot of work to do to win my vote.
You mean, he's asking you to do the job they won't do?
In battleground states they consume the airwaves all year long, you get sick of them real fast.
No.
New Mexico has always been a swing state. NM has always gone to the winning candidate for President since 1912 except twice, first in ‘76 when the state went to Ford, and in ‘00 when the state went to Gore.
Kids don’t show up to vote, that said,He’s got a lot of work to do to win my vote.
Well, I have to pay for my own auto and health insurance and I don’t get any government freebies, so they should have more money to send McCain, right? Didn’t he tell us they would show their gratitude for accepting them as American citizens? Maybe it is time he tried the theory out. He could send Juan Hernandez to do the asking.
How do you like the narrator? IT’S POWERS BOOTH! Everything about this ad is AWESOME.
Isn’t McCain running short on money? One thread said his darling CFR is hurting him.
Thanks.
NM is a Dim state for the most part. It’s been growing mostly in the areas where transplants are Dims. It barely went for W in 2004. The simple fact that we have fat Billy Richardson for a governor says alot. I have no idea why McC started here other than it’s got a lot of “independants” and the media outlets are cheap. It could just be a state wide focus group type thing.
PS: I actually like Texans, but certain conventions have to be obeyed. :)
“Isnt McCain running short on money? One thread said his darling CFR is hurting him.”
One can only hope so.

Narrator Powers Boothe!
No problem :)
Sad part is I think ‘04 is probably going to be the last time NM was a red state...at least in the near future.
If you knew where I grew up you wouldn't be so nice. :o)
Besides, I like New Mexico, it's a great drive through state on the way to and from civilization. oH sNaP!! /h
One more reason to be glad I don’t get television out here in the boondocks of New Mexico.
He sees his base as the West (Not PacCoast) and the South and wants to firm that up first.
where have I heard that before......
It not only sounds cruel, it is cruel. Disgusting.
But then we'd have a Mormon president.
That can't be good.
Running a campaign based on service in the Navy during Vietnam? Sounds vaguely familiar...
Good move on McCains part.
The local media must have had a fire sale special on their advertising rates....why New Mexico?

The "New American Pioneers" proclaimed in his book are the illegal alien invaders he urges to become settlers in the USA. Hernandez believes all Mexicans and Mexican-Americans in the USA should become dual citizens and consider themselves Mexicans first, "to the 8th generation." He believes there should be no border at all between Mexico and the USA, ever.
And this is the man McCain chose for his "Hispanic Outreach Director." In the past week McCain was asked about this choice, and he said he chose Hernandez because he agrees with his positions. If so, McCain is supporting invasion and reconquista.
Then I read our Constitution, Article 4 Section 4, where it says the federal government MUST protect the states from invasion, and I can only conclude one thing: John McCain is our new Benedict Arnold.

It’s an extraordinary ad. Too bad McCain’s such a turd.
I saw a McCain ad in oregon a few days ago. It was horrible, basically implying that because he was POW that he deserves to run our country.
Even if I were supporting or voting for him, which I’m not, I thought it a horribly done ad.

If it's the one I saw on Fox a few days ago, it made me cringe. It provokes guilt and pity--"how much I suffered"--
Yes it was. It was literally like the man had no ideas whatsoever on how to fix things, but, hey...he was a POW.
Horrible ad.
Goodness how I miss people like Lee Atwater who knew how to make good political ads.
