LINCOLN, Neb. -- A 10-year-old girl has died, just a day after her wish to see her father was granted.
Jayci Yaeger's imprisoned father, Jason, went to her bedside Wednesday -- a visit federal authorities allowed only after being deluged with letters and phone calls from across the nation.

where’s the tissue required disclaimer?
Good. Now back to jail.
I’m sorry I didn’t include it.
A changed man.
Four years in jail on meth charges???!!!
Wow, I feel so much safer now that our War on Drugs is sooooo successful! What a stupid joke. What a waste of resources and money...MY TAX money...and for what?
I am very glad this child got to see her father and also that the father was able to be with his child. This will help in the grieving process for the whole family.
and the warden? “Not a situation serious enough to warrant a visit by the father?” What idiots!!
Sad story, but where was the drug dealing father when his daughter was growing up? If he really loved her he would not have been involved in dealing drugs and death to users whose families had to suffer the fate of their loved ones putting poison into their bodies, sold by the drug dealing father.
God bless the little girl.
Awe jeeez.
Disregard ocular O2.
does this have to turn into a freaking libertarian rant?
Wow. How do you fit all the mysteries of the universe in that thimble sized intellect?
God rest her little soul...
Four years seems really harsh. He better have been cooking up an arse-load of that stuff, shaking down locals for protection money, and periodically beating up some competition for that sentence.
Four years? That’s about $100,000 to lock up the guy, plus police and court costs.
Well, maybe this man was at a crossroads, his daughter just showed him the way.
I’m thankful for any comfort her father was able to provide her before her death.
Poor kid.
I hate it when those evil drug dealers force people to buy drugs. I wonder if they have automatic payroll deduction.
She's with the Lord now and her suffering is over. May God comfort her family and give them strength for the difficult days ahead.
It was not a liberal “rant”....it was a comment, one comment on the juxtaposition of the seriousness of the situation of a dying child, a rigid warden and an Absurd War on Drugs.
Well, lets see with 100 grand we could spend about 30k on treatment, then another 30 k on a halfway house with monitoring and then have 30 K left over for a tax rebate.
You could have put more text in the excerpt. You’re allowed up to 300 characters or 50% of the article if shorter than 600 characters. It’s very difficult to understand much about this story based just on the information posted at the beginning of this thread.
I don’t see why the father should get clemency or be moved to a halfway house just because his daughter was dying. I do think the prison officials should have allowed him to see his daugther earlier and more frequently. There is no informatation about why he is in prison or whether he is a dangerous prisoner.
How nice for her that she got this fourth visit from her father. May she rest in peace.
God bless (((Jayci Yaeger))).
How can you say that? He really loved his little girl. He may have tried to sell the drugs to help pay for her tremendous medical bills. You don't know what his situation was so don't be so judgmental.
Yes KRB you don't give a crap about the people who get messed up or die on the crap this sh!tbag was selling. We see your pathetic non-point.
Boo hoo.
Sorry for the kid, she didn't get to pick her scummy father - who is in a far better place than he deserves.
I agree.
20 lashes would have been better.
And I’m guessing he has a few more years to go. I don’t think the Feds have parole.
I would see clemency if it would have helped the child as she was dying and help the whole family through this awful nightmare! Lets not punish everyone because the guy had a sentence ( assuming he is not violent).
For God’s sake, he already has more punishment than any prison could give him...he lost his child!
And, her prayers were answered. I am getting misty, tissues please...
Put me down for not caring about people who die or get messed up on drugs. It’s the price they pay for their own behavior. When bad behavior is self-punishing, that’s my definition of justice.
A little girl died a horrible, scary death. You, sir, are a jerk.
Actually her father had been let out several times before to see Jayci. The dispute was over allowing him to be released on a 30 day furlough to spend time with her. I’m glad he was able to see her again, before she died, but she had, in fact, seen him several times during the worst part of her illness.
I assume he was cooking it, in which case he SHOULD have been in there that long, if not longer. That stuff is poison!
No, he gets out in August.
Jerk Jerk Jerk Jerk
Thanx, that’s another $10,000 for room and board.
Being consistent here (if at least for a moment), let's assume your drunken rant is correct, and that I don't "give a crap" about people on meth. You obviously don't "give a crap" about this guy nor his kid, and nor do you even stop for a second to question whether or not our government, in the name of the people, is doing right by us.
So, given that you don't give a crap about him, why should I give a crap about meth users?
Meth is serious stuff. I saw a show where the home they were making it had to be condemned.
Parts of the war on drugs seem useless to me, too. I’m not into punishing an addict. But a good meth addiction can cost society a lot more than that, and destroy a lot more than four years of someones life.
100K is just a couple of good hospitalizations and a couple of mouthfuls of dental work.
I didn’t say he shouldn’t have been moved to a local jail from which he could be transported to see his daughter. Local jails house state and federal prisoners all the time when they are on trial. Considering the daughter’s health, the prison should have been more accomodating. I just don’t see why his sentence should be changed.
They did. He'd seen her several times in the last few months. This story didn't say that. It made it sound like the prison only let him out this one time, after they were deluged with angry letters.
There was a thread about this a few days ago that mentioned the previous visits.
An article yesterday said the father is due to be out this August. He was known to be a model prisoner.
Just wait, they’ll refuse to let him attend her funeral. Watch and see.
Sounds like double the return, from one point of view.
I believe she developed the illness after her father was sent to prison.
That actually would seem more reasonable to me, as harsh as it sounds. The deathbed presence was for her. A funeral visit would be for him. And people in prison don’t get a lot of “for him” things.
Sorry for the kid, she didn’t get to pick her scummy father - who is in a far better place than he deserves.
****
Well put MrEdd
I so glad the little girl was able to see her daddy I wish she could of had more time with him.
Some on theads are so myopic and lack compassion for a child!!
not because of the father but of the child who has a different relationship in life and not always understanding of the adult world.
Non-Sequitur & purpleraine
go jump in a ice cold lake it will match your heart!
Are you guessing at the amount it will cost them to keep him another 5 months, or is that a fact? That seems a little high to me, but I've never been in jail or known anyone who was. So, what do they feed them? Steak and lobster? LOL THAT would be a little much. ;o)
My sister runs an alternative sentencing program for drug users. In order to qualify, they cannot have been convicted of any felony, nor of distribution, simply possession. They have to have random screenings, get and keep a job, and stay away from other drug users, in order to stay out of jail. She said that she’s had pretty good success with marijuana smokers, and even some heroin users, but meth-heads are the hardest to get clean.
