Earth Hour 'gives a spirit of hope'
news.com.au ^ | March 29, 2008

PARTICIPATION in the Earth Hour lights off campaign by individuals will eventually lead to change in the behaviour of businesses and governments, WWF Australia said.

The global Earth Hour lights-off project, due at 8pm tonight, aims to focus attention on the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

WWF Australia chief Greg Bourne said the actions of individuals could kick off the necessary change to counter global warming.

"In the end it is a combination of behavioural change amongst individuals and that (in turn) reinforcing the behavioural change in business, and again the reinforcement up to state, provincial and federal governments wherever they are in the world," Mr Bourne said to Sky News.

"If the people demonstrate it, they want change ... then eventually politicians will deliver that.

"I'm very, very encouraged by the work of businesses around the world who are getting on board and changing what's happening in their offices, in their processes.

"But it's a spirit of hope and action that really matters.

"If we just hide in a corner and say this is all too big, we'll never get on with it so (we need) millions and millions of people taking small steps."

Sydney lord mayor Clover Moore echoed Mr Bourne's thoughts.

"People are really looking for what they can do. I think everybody is alarmed about global warming," she said to Sky.

"They're experiencing it, they're experiencing the change in weather and they know that global warming is happening and yet – what can they do about it being so big.

"For us to start talking about turning your lights off for an hour, and what will that do – in the lead-up to that hour, you're having conversations at school, at the family table, in your workplace, on what this is about.

How many of these eco-nutbag retards can I offset if I leave all my lights on all day tomorrow?

What...nonsense. The hour doesn’t shut down any power plants, the ‘greenhouse gases’ do nothing, especially in the southern hemisphere, and not even Al Gore is spouting Global Warming anymore, it’s now climate change - amazing how data about Mars getting hotter at the same time of the earth cooled their heels real quick.

The message they are sending is that “not” doing what you do is more valuable than doing it.

That may be true in their cases, if these jaybirds didn’t show up for whatever it is that they do for an hour or a day or a month, what would any of us lose?

But for most people, what you do matters. What you do is worth the cost of keeping the lights on, or you wouldn’t be doing it, and the people who pay you and pay the light bill wouldn’t be shelling out the cash every month.

In the end every one of us, directly or indirectly, do what we do in service to people. Customers, clients, end-users, people. Don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t worth the price of keeping the lights on.

>> Phoenix is a flagship city in Earth Hour, an international endeavor in which it is hoped that millions will band together to conserve energy by turning off their lights.

>> “The city’s become very interested in ‘green’ and sustainable processes and projects, because saving energy saves money on the bottom line, and we need to be good stewards of the public dollars,” said Cynthia Seelhammer, Phoenix’s deputy city manager.

>>”Here in Phoenix, somebody on the city staff saw a story on television news about it and said, ‘Gosh, I wonder if that’s something Phoenix might be interested in participating in,’ “ Seelhammer said.”

Phoenix’s deputy city manager does not wish to reveal who made the decision for the City to participate in this clearly partisan political event. Anthropogenic warming is of course only associated with a certain political party.

Well there is the key to all this ... spirit of hope comes with lights out ... they have identified themselves as agents of change under liberation theology. Obama is running a 'global' campaign.

Actually since they have identified themselves

Lets help their “spirit of hope” , cut them off the grid permanently.
We all know that they will do their part to help the planet, they just need a little encouragement.
LOL,

I wonder if 'crime' rate will increase during this hour of darkness. This may end up costing more in the long run.

In our neck of the woods the liberal pinheads mandated that the power utility companies convert to a minimum 15% “renewable energy” for their production. To add insult to injury they pontificated (through statute) that hydroelectric dams didn’t count.

This morning on the dimwit news they announced that the power companies are asking the regulating committees to approve rate increases to offset the costs associated with these newer, less efficient, more expensive power producing sources. Naturally the “public” is up in arms. Stupid frikkin morons! Where did they think the power was going to come from, and who did they think was going to pay for the changes?!

These are the same mouth-breathers who recently banned the incandescent bulb, citing the intrinsic superiority of the so-called eco-friendly swirly-top fluorescent bulb. Now theiy’re complaining about the cost of the new bulbs.

Liberalism is a mental disorder!

Just like Carter. In his little FDR-like fireside chat, he urged all “Americans” (Liberals like him) to turn off all but one light in our houses, burn candles and not use the oven as often to cook food. That is after he had destroyed the economy so completely, double digit unemployment, double digit inflation, interest rates were above 15% and thanks to his windfall taxes and income tax increases, there were lines of people waiting for gas, jobs and food stamps.

A Democrat win will keep them so busy answering to all the angry people that they will have very little time or support to change much of anything.
