It started in Sydney, Australia a year ago and is now an event of global proportions.
Dozens of cities will celebrate Earth Hour on Saturday, turning their attention to energy conservation and global warming.
One in 600 people in Canada have signed up to participate.
Critics dismiss Earth Hour as just another environmental feel good measure, not unlike the voluntary black out day last August, which had mixed success.
One Canadian out of 600 is a mindless conformist.
Actually, that works out a lot better than I would have expected. That means 599 out of 600 are not, I suppose.

Wow a whole hour.
The whole Earth Hour thing is just a trick by a major player in the GW scene, on the world market.
You, supposedly, must ‘sign up’ to be part of the ‘movement’.
What a nice, ‘free’, way to generate a great mailing list with the names of all the suckers you want to sell carbon credits to.
And/or receive a thank you note for joining the spirit of hope cult of Bill Clinton global poverty and climate control slush fund.... Then begging for money to keep the project alive...
While Al Gore and the rest of the global warming fanatics have wasted our time by making us buy poison light-bulbs and carbon credits. A much more useful and and effective method for dealing with this dire problem is the ever useful tinfoil hat.
It’s reflective properties would be useful for reducing the heat on our planet and since cattle and livestock are one of the main reasons for causation, I suggest that we create versions for them to wear as well.
Tinfoil headdresses are also useful for keeping aliens away, so don’t forget to wear yours while standing in the dark during earth hour.
