Judge Orders Whites Out Of Atlanta Court
WSBTV.com. ^ | March 28, 2008

ATLANTA -- Judge Marvin Arrington insists he's not a racist; despite ordering white lawyers out of his courtroom on Thursday.

The Fulton County Superior Court judge said he was just fed up seeing a parade of young black defendants in his courtroom.

"I came out and saw the defendants, about 99.9 percent Afro-Americans, and some point time I excused some of the lawyers, most of them white, and said to the young people in here 'What in the world are you doing with your lives,'" he told WSB-TV Channel 2 reporter JaQuitta Williams.

Arrington said he thought his message might have more power if it was delivered to a blacks-only audience.

"I didn't think about racism or reverse racism, I practiced law for 30 years and 75 percent of my partners were white," he explained.

The judge said the majority of people who appear before him accused of crimes such as murder, rape and robbery are black and he wanted to do something about it, one on one.

"I didn't want them to think I was talking down to them; trying to embarrass them or insult them; be derogatory towards them and I was just saying 'Please get yourself together,'" he said.

Arrington added that he may make a similar speech next week, but this time he'll allow everyone to hear it.

what kind of hell would erupt if a white judge wanted to talk to a WHITES-ONLY audience in a courtroom ? this politically correct double standard crap has to stop. maybe obama needs to make another speech.

If he wasn’t an idiot he would have said he wanted to talk to the young men without any attorneys and left race out of it.

But that would be unlike him.

Actually, his explanation makes perfect sense to me. I support what he did. That's probably the first dressing-down most of those men have received in their lives.

This judge is a piece of garbage.
Instead of pleading with criminals he needs to lock their As@#$ up for as long as the law allows.
I’m getting sick of this!

I think his intentions are good, but it still makes him seem color oriented... Because why don’t whites and asians deserve the same talk about get yourself together? Don’t they merit the same concern? I like the judge giving a talk like this, but everyone deserves it regardless of color.

When I was practicing law, courts were open to the public, and remained so, except in statutorily provided instances [child rape victim, unless closed circuit TV could be used], undercover cops still working undercover [and that required a hearing], or upon motion [in VERY limited circumstances] by counsel, with both sides heard [subject to Court action by the media if the courtroom was sealed].

I can't remember more than three or four times in 26 years that happened. I never heard of a case, or saw one where the judge, sua sponte] sealed the courtroom himself.

One very interesting thing about recent black controvery, from Rev. Wright to this Judge’s racist attitude, is that it appears to be causing liberal Whites in this country to finally get over their delusional affinity to liberal guilt over past slavery. If you look around you hard enough you will see signs of this shift. Notice how the bottom two from the publics voting on the last American Idol were both Black. Not sure you would have seen this last year. Oh, my brother’s wife and step daughter, both liberal teachers that have always voted Democrat and were Obama supporters, following the Wright fiasco have said they intend this time to vote for McCain...even though voting Republican for the first time is causing them some distress. You could have knocked me over with a feather.

Criminals deserve no sympathy!! I don’t care how they were raised.
What you are saying spits in the face of many black men that had no father, but still live a life that is upstanding.
There’s no excuse for committing criminal acts.

Racial issues aside, it is unethical-if not illegal-for a judge to address a defendant outside the presence of his attorney. It violates, among other things, the US Constitution’s Sixth Amendment Right to Counsel.

Wonder if the judge has a special talk reserved for his white customers, or is he not as worried about their future?

It seems to me he can give each one of his customers a special individualized speech, when he gives each one a long sentence as he protects society from these predators.

He didn't kick the lawyers out because they were white, he did it because they were lawyers. Anywhere but in a court of law I would have no problem with that. But throwing a defendant's legal representation out of court is a clear violation of their rights (barring contempt citations which would be a special case).

He's not a racist. He's just a really bad judge.

It was probably the first time any of them had someone attempt to "parent" them.....their real parents should see jail time for "parental negligence".

The problem of bad parents, bad schools and bad leadership is compounding the problems for blacks....and America.

Obama and Rev. Wright are no solution - they feed on, and stoke, the misguided discontent of young black people.

For those wondering, Marvin is a Democrat who was at one time the President of the Atlanta City Council and was appointed by Governor Roy Barnes (D) to his current position on the bench.

And so you know, he has shown himself to be as African American centric as Andy Young and the late Maynard Jackson. He is simply one of the black community’s answers to the “good old boys”.

Some I my best friends are white. Really.

That said, I was at first blush aghast, but then it started to make sense. Nothing else makes an impression on these hoodlums. And if they have Rev. Wright for a pastor, well, I'm sure their days are marked by who sells the most dope to whitey to get money into the hood to empower Blacks and pay for Rev. Wright's new home.

Just maybe a tongue lashing from such a person may sink in.

You've spent too much time on your tax return. Give it a break.

Ever hear of "a figure of speech"....it is an effective tool used by some of the best public speakers. And in this case, sadly, probably close to the truth when considering the total number of defendents in Atlanta courts and Atlanta's demographics.

The black matriarchy Moynihan talked about forty years ago is almost complete now.
I am lately seeing more and more young black men involved with white,Mexican and Asian girls who will”let me be a man”in the traditional sense.
Way too many of”the sisters”try to dominate and run the show, which is why the young black men are less and less willing to see them as even POSSIBLE marriage material.
And thats not even mentioning the fact that marriage itself is an endangered institution everywhere now.

Actually, his explanation makes perfect sense to me.

I agree. Bill Cosby has tried to preach the message, but he's ignored because his message doesn't carry the "I'm-a-victim-of-white-racism" that Jesse, Al, Jerry and all the rest spout. Blacks need to get off the "victim" mentality and start fixing their problems themselves. Jesse and Al's approach of throwing my money at their problems doesn't work because they don't want it to work...they'd be out of business if it did.

As to the poison Jerry spits each Sunday, he reinforces the victim mentality by blaming whites for all black problems. Sorry, Jerry, your dog $hit in your house. You need to clean it up yourself.
