All day today Google has been pushing an Earth Hour agenda:
On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.
Given our company's commitment to environmental awareness and energy efficiency, we strongly support the Earth Hour campaign, and have darkened our homepage today to help spread awareness of what we hope will be a highly successful global event.
I got sick of their Spitzeresque hypocrisy and emailed them the following:
Your Earth Hour nonsense finally made me change my default search engine from Google to Dogpile.
You are such hypocrites...your founders Larry Page and Serge Brin fly around in a private Boeing 767...and you have the balls to talk about Earth Hour.
I guess you think everbody should sacrifice to keep the rich liberal elites airborne.
Maybe I’ll e-mail to explain that their sanctimony annoyed me so much that turned all my lights on for that hour.
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Palelologus
I was out all evening, but left the lights on as usual for the puppies. AND the lighted Easter Extravaganza lit up our hill all night tonight. Nine foot Easter Bunny and lights strung around all the trees.....it looks lovely!
;^)
Oh. Wait. That's what NON-hypocrites would do.
LMAO
I think it's a free search engine that works great.
I could care less about their ideology.
You know, Google isnt my favorite
But they are showing the Fitna film.
That is something I didnt expect
I agree. I am here in the West, and so we have not hit 8:00, but I am planning to turn all the lights on.
I just went and turned a few lights on. Even though I keep lights out that aren’t in use - for frugality’s sake. In fact, I just made some coffee, and plan on using my computer ALL NIGHT. Just for them.
Sweet, aren’t I?! ;-)
Likewise. I lit up the house so much the breaker box started smoking.
Made that change last year. Never regretted it.
The bright worklight goes on, outside, illuminating the clouds, in one hour.
Let's see, most people left their lights on. I guess Algore can go away now!
See my previous.
I wonder if google shut down their data centers at 8PM and left them down for an hour. One of their data centers probably uses as much power as a small town. lol
Nahhhhhh. Silly me.
Wotta load....Don't these people ever think things through?
I don’t much care about their ideology. They’re in business to make money, and that means jumping on every bandwagon that comes down the street.
I do mind that their black background is distracting with those bright Google letters dancing around. If they were serious, they would have done the word “Google” in black, too.
Another case of "Do as I say, not as I do." It's all part of the "2 Americas" thing...normal people versus elitest liberal nuts.
Now that I think about it, I meant to look for the ATV, but completely forgot about it at the time.
Too bleepin' cold at 8PM to go back out again at 9:30...
He will never beat Dwight in the Light.
The Loonie Left wants to be in the dark so badly that they punched their own lights out? I hope they all disappeared and when the lights come back on, all thats left is their shoes!
Internet question: When I open Internet Explorer Google comes up as my home page. Does Google profit from my use of it as a home page?
Just to be contrary I turned everything in the house on. :)
Sorry, I’ll be watching “Tank Overhaul” on the Military Channel at 8pm instead of playing their game.
Re: Google "turns the lights out" [Mark Steyn]
Nathan, what I like about Google "going dark" in support of "Earth Hour" is that it, in fact, uses more energy than the regular old white screen. But hey, we can always use another pointless gesture in the name of "raising awareness". Anyone who isn't "aware" by now of the mass global-warming psychosis is presumably already living in a cave, and therefore has no lights to turn out.
Another attractive feature of "Earth Hour" is the opportunity it offers to transform free nations into a society of eco-Stasi:
Between 8 and 9 tonight, Ill be doing what I usually do at that time:Ill be out with my wife walking our two dogs 5km around our small town.
Tonight, however, Ill be looking at my neighbours windows to see which ones are participating in Earth Hour.
Hmm. While you're at it, why not stroll past Al Gore's one-man City of Light in Tennessee?
Still, you couldn't ask for a better image for this movement than apparently sane people voluntarily keeping themselves in the dark. The great Tim Blair, lit up like Gore Manor, has much more.
I’m driving around in my car without the headlights on.
I can't see how they would profit. You can change your default homepage to anything you want. Mine defaults to Free Republic!
same here.
Google appears quite foolish to be a part of the Global Warming Hoax. Within each Epoch and within each Age, there have been fluctuations in temperature. Chicken little Owl Gore minions should be pitied.
Google’s Earth hour has lasted all day. You can hardly see to type in the words but my computer shows dark things darker.
Very strange to see text in white. Google Gorbal Goofballs!
What am I missing here? A group of Aussie loonies came up with this knucklehead idea but these “before” and “during” images appear to show just how seriously THEY are taking their own fiasco.
That’s so stupid, I went around and turned all our lights ON!
Screw Google!
Don’t libs always complain about how Iraqis *suffer* without regular electric power? Maybe it’s actually greenie utopia over there...
To be fair to Google, they’re actually not total hypocrites on this. I was just at their corporate headquarters this past week, and they do encourage their employees to be green. Bikes are made freely available for all to use, and you can hop on them and ride around the Google complex and to their satellite offices.
They do take care of their employees, and they do seem quite happy—even if 75% of them seem to be from India and China.
Extra lights on for this hour. Illuminating the clouds precipitating that white Global Warming stuff coming down this evening.
Yeah, TOTALLY forgot about Earth Hour...darn.
HEY! I’ll make up for it from 12am-1am.
I’m so green...
Kinda weird not to see the Space Needle...but all the condos, apts, etc., all around don't seem to care a bit. All are lit up with TVs blazing.
Co-incidence eh? I downloaded that N. Korea map a few years ago. It finally came to good use. Some say it was Photoshoped because of the islands off S. Korea.
There you have it.
Another LOL!! It has started to snow on Capitol Hill and it is sticking!!

That's the difference between Capitalism( South Korea) and Socialism (North Korea) which doesn't allow private property.
Good. Global warming is a lie.
This past year the Earth cooled almost a whole degree Celcius. With that rapid a cooling the dumb liberal mainstream media and Google should be talking about the coming Ice Age. These liberals in the media are just Marxists that want to suck the life out of our civilization and capitalism.
Burning lots of lights tonight in our home. And a few other electricty consumers. Good time to do some vacuuming!
Correct. I'm a Capitalist.
The Chia Pet is so “green” that all the leftists all over the world dream of living in North Korea, as close to Stone Age standards of living as possible...... unless of course you are in the Party or the Chia Pet’s entourage, and then you can enjoy all manner of western luxuries.
I think the Google dudes should have to invite 200 people to fly on their 767 every time they’re going anywhere — how dare they waste so much energy and create so much carbon emission for just a handful of people?
Let’s pass a law! /s
