Obama sails to victory in Dallas County district conventions

Packed delegates at times 'a nightmare' for Dallas County districts

Barack Obama cruised to victory over Hillary Rodham Clinton in Dallas County's Senate district conventions Saturday, as Texas Democrats continued their arduous and sometimes frustrating process of choosing national convention delegates.

Mr. Obama had double-digit leads in all five of the county's Senate districts, mirroring his electoral power here in the March 4 primary. Statewide, the picture was less certain, though Mr. Obama started the day with a caucusing advantage because he won the first round, precinct conventions held the night of the primary.

That may mean he can win more overall delegates in Texas even though Mrs. Clinton won the initial primary vote, as Mr. Obama's campaign claimed in a triumphant statement late Saturday. The Clinton campaign scoffed at that and predicted a strong showing once all the results were counted.

Moody Coliseum, where delegates waited hours in line. The packed conventions cemented for some that the "two-step" system of having caucuses after a primary vote is probably not suited for such a large state. Thousands of Texans spent hours in school gyms , other venues Saturday, arguing at length about credentials and other matters – all for a handful of delegates among thousands to the convention that will nominate either Mr. Obama or Mrs. Clinton for president.

Delegates alternated between boredom and frustration. At one district, police were summoned to keep the proceedings calm.

"What you have is people who are energized by the process," said state Sen. Royce West, who led the convention in his 23rd District and at one point called the process a "nightmare."

"Ninety percent of our convention had first-time delegates. We are developing a farm system," he said.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Richie described the scene as "democracy at its finest."

Excuse me, but Dallas County isn’t the entire Lone Star State. He or Hill might get Dallas, Travis, and a handful of counties along the border, but they will NEVER get Texas.

Hmmm...how do we know Mr. Warren is not one of Rush’s “Operation Chaos” operatives?

What sort of idiot system of election process is wrought by Democrats? Texas already had it’s day to vote March 5th....that another day is designated for the caucus delegates to re-vote is STUPID. RUSH can’t take complete credit for Operation Chaos.....the moronic Dem party system does it to itself.

It's probably a holdover from the LBJ days, have a "show" primary and then the smoky back room deals kick in.

Texas hasn't mattered for years, except for this one, but it does show the elitism of the Texas democrat party for all to see.

Can I ask a dumb question?

Why’d they bother with the primaries?

Seems to me that the dems just keep voting, discount votes and/or, after loosing a vote, miraculously find a box of votes with just the right number to win after all = and now they're also wanting to negate the super delegates at the convention by just giving the anointment to the one with the most votes, or is it delegates , or it is....What time is it?

Ok I am just getting this.
Texas has a primary and casts their votes, a winner is declared delegates are awarded and then a causes is held to declare a new winner and re-award delegates.
Is that how it works?

Dallas County is tons of Hispanics, AA’s and transplanted liberals from eleswhere. I suspect it will be colored blue come Nov. 08. Fortunately the state is still majority conservative at this time.

How long does it take Texas Democrats to select their delegates? The primary was on March 4th, for goodness sake.

So, are you saying that the March 4th primary doesn’t count?

That would seem to be the case. Hold a “primary” so the sheeple think they elected the delegates, then select the actual delegates in smokey back room dealings over the next four weeks.

Your guess is reasonably close...remember that they were still counting delegates a week after Mar. 5th...then they stopped counting?.... so this is another re-count?
It’s one big Dem cluster muck of a process.

So, are you saying that the March 4th primary doesn’t count?

Seems like it, given that hillary won the popular vote with 51% of the votes cast, and she will get less than a majority of delegates.

Just commenting on the screwed up Texas democrat party process.

This is the'RAT convention in Dallas county. It's overwhelminly black. Another large chunk of the delegates are gay, and they probably thought Obama trendier. They also liked his logo better.

Don't ask me...I'm not a Democrat!

I promise you that the Dems who were there don't have a clue what happened!

The Democrat primary is a quagmire. And these are the people who lay claim to “reuniting” the country?
