How come they don’t give the perp’s name? Couldn’t spell Mohammed, I guess.
I hate it when that happens!
In fairness, Australian police would not normally name somebody at this stage. Names don’t generally get released until after a person has appeared in court.
In Australia, could it be an honest mistake?
It happens in America quite frequently.
Yeah, it could be a mistake, but why did the guy try to hail a cab?
The fact he seems to have tried to leave the scene is suspicious - Australian Federal Police officers would have been called immediately the firearm was detected, and if he had nothing to hide and had just made an honest mistake involving a legitimately held firearm, it would have been in his best interests to stay and talk to them - by attempting to leave, even if he hasn't committed any offence, he'll have put his gun licence in jeopardy.
On the plus side, he has been bailed to appear in court today - the fact they didn't keep him in custody (they easily could have) suggests they don't think he's a major threat of any sort.
