American sniper hung out to dry (DISGRACE !!)

On a mountain ridge in Afghanistan in June 2005, on a mission to capture or kill a Taliban commander, the four Navy SEALs were discussing ... the American media. Three shepherds, including a 14-year-old, had crossed their path, and the SEALs had to decide what to do: kill them, or let them go and risk exposure to Taliban forces.

On elevated ground near Iskandariyah, Iraq, two years later, American snipers faced the same dilemma: kill or release two civilians who had discovered their hideout, Genei Nesir Khudair al-Janabi and his 17-year-old son, Mustafa.

So the military is winning the war in SPITE of their leadership, not because of it.

"The strictly correct military decision would ... be to kill them ... because we could not know their intentions," Luttrell writes in his book. But he feared "the liberal media ... and the prospect of many, many years in a U.S. civilian jail alongside murderers and rapists."

Remember this, the next time you just have to show your conservative bona fides by wishing prison rape on anyone incarcerated.

the leadership in our own military proves that not all of us, not even all of those in uniform, want us to win the war against terrorism.

When a marine has to think about the NYT editorial section in between calculating wind speeds and distance for his partner who is preparing a shot, it should be clear that WE here in the mainland are the ones putting our marines in danger more than the Taliban ever could.

You can’t fight a PC war and expect to win.

Liberalism hamstrings our military, then liberals complain that their hamstrung military is in a “quagmire” and therefore must withdraw. It’s a crazy, vicious cycle, and it ultimately spells our doom. Ugly decisions such as what Hensley made, instructing Vela to kill the unarmed father of a boy the soldiers had just released, are unfortunate. But they are many times necessary.

We MUST not fight a PC war.

We cannot, repeat cannot fight an antiseptic war with restrictions on ruthlessness and expect favorable results and minimization of casualties. The people putting in place these idiotic conditions have never looked at the evil in a foe's soul as he trained his weapon on your upper torso. When it comes to combat, never give your enemy an even chance, never mind a substantial leg up.
Where the hell is our common sense as a people?

Our military brass makes me sick. They are willing to sacrifice the lives of 19 Americans so two Taliban sympathizers could go on killing Americans. American soldiers shouldn't be charged with murder unless there is irrefutable evidence that one occurred. This doesn't include a soldier shooting an unarmed civilian who poses a threat to his life. There's no way this doesn't hurt morale and cause good men to leave the military.

It would go a long way for GWB if he did it, or better yet “bend to the pressure” of McCain asking him to do it? hint, hint to McCain lurkers.

This is not the way to fight a war. Sometimes there is collarteral damage, no way around it.

Meanwhile the media used reporters’ images who were imbedded with the “insurgents”’ snipers.

The media has a horse in this race and it isn’t our country they are rooting for.

Damned arm chair generals would rather see 20 of their own men die than kill one or two enemy sympathizers.

YES, it seems we have learned nothing from VietNam.

What would you suggest we do? The Democrats and Republicans have had an iron grip on our nation for 150 years, look what they have given us for choices this year.

Is this soldier's conviction yet another example of the 'shadow justice' system put in place to placate the DBM?

Any investigation into Haditha should include this case as well.

"I'd have killed them," he said, referring to the shepherds in Afghanistan. He told me the code is "like the Ten Commandments, short and sweet and subject to interpretation."

Cmndr. Richard Marcinko is right, IMO.

Evan Vela made a wrenching but necessary decision. He is not a murderer.

Amen! and he is still alive, but no charges should have been filed.
