Earth Hour crashes to Earth (no significant fall in power usage)
Herald Sun Austrailia ^ | Sunday, March 30, 2008 | Andrew Bolt

Posted on 03/31/2008 12:08:29 PM PDT by Names Ash Housewares

Credit the public with sense. Earth Hour, hysterically promoted by The Age, the Sydney Morning Herald, the ABC, SBS, Sky News and the federal and state governments, resulted in no significant fall in power usage.

Check the graphs from our National Electricity Market Management Company, tracking power use between 8pm and 9pm (a period in which demand always plummets):

I wonder if anywhere in the world had significant power drop? LOL

I had my power ramped up!

I kept my lights on. Stupid liberal stunt. It didn't reduce global warming one iota.

Now if liberals would have only stopped breathing for an hour, I think we would have saw significant results.

I had every light in my house blazing for the entire hour. Most liberals are only liberals when it suits them and doesn’t inconvenience them.

I turned all my lights on and ran the dishwasher. From what I could see in my neighbourhood, all high rises, not many people appeared to be paying attention. Of course it was Saturday night and in Toronto that means Hockey Night in Canada, particularly since it was Leafs/Habs and the Habs were saving energy and letting the Leafs beat them.

Didn’t Earth worship used to take an entire day? Is this the Generation Whine edition?

I would submit that there was a lot of energy wasted by the leftist networks and other media outlets talking about this nonsense instead of other important issues.

Gorebbel warming is recognized by most people for what it is.

“It didn’t reduce global warming one iota.”

That’s because no matter how little energy you use or how much they tax us or we spend on ridiculous carbon credits, it will never make any difference in the world’s climate.

When you think about it from a Marxist point of view it really is brilliant!

This was like levitating the pentagon. The “darkness”, like the “levitation” was not the point. The actual point succeeded in each case.

Turning extra lights on doesn’t fight the real point which is to reduce a complex series of questions to a simplistic answer.

Empty gesture. What was the point? To demonstrate that we need to live in the dark without light, heat, Internet and TV to prevent global warming?

This stunt probably setback global warming hysteria by raising sympathy for the idea that we need to develop new power sources and increase capacity.

Save something and make a buck or get elected.

This sort of activist crap should be scolded by the public, but it get rewarded. From Carbon Offsets to B.S. water filters that do nothing for but were marketed based on fear of the local water supply, these topics are mostly scams.

I was at work at the time, so I didn’t notice anything major. But I doubt that very many people here in Kentucky were paying any attention to Earth Hour, not with the Louisville Cardinals getting ready to tip-off against the North Carolina Tar Heels at 9PM for a shot at going to the Final Four. Sadly the Cardinals fell flat on their faces, but there is always next year.

The real question should be, was there an increase in power usage anywhere - caused by counter demonstrators?

I had every light in the house on, two computers, two laptops and the TV. The only thing I didn’t do was prop the refrigerator door open.

Someplace they reported 5% drop. Maybe that was Sidney. Some political candidates would be highly pleased to poll 5%.

Significant? Yes, indeed, for Gravel or Kucinich.

More than 1000 people braved the chill and the rain to see Premier John Brumby and Lord Mayor John So lead the countdown to 8pm… At the top of the Rialto, a small crowd had a sense of anticlimax when there was no widespread blackout at 8pm. In fact, across the CBD rows of illuminated office windows, with little sign of beavering workers behind them, showed not everyone had read the memo.

ROTFLMAO!

I signed up for the interruptible A/C rate back in Ann Arbor, Michigan - Detroit Edison had to install a second electric meter for it in addition to the radio control unit. The one time it tripped in the couple of years I lived there they shut it down for about 6 hours, violating the terms of the agreement which specified a maximum of four hours.

Such genuflection is only possible by such folks living the life they allegedly deplore. If they were honestly concerned, “Earth Hour” would have been met with a shrug, as their lights being off would already be the norm.

The black screen on Google, reminding one to turn off the lights for an hour, actually used more energy on LCD screens according to Google itself.

That made the event a moot point.

Yes, Calgary (Alberta) actually showed a significant rise in power consumption during Earth Hour. Of course the Flames were fighting for their playoff lives at the time!

IMO picking Saturday Night to have this Kumbya Kyoto Kumbya moment was incredibly stupid.

P.S. I would like to see the power grid figures between 9 and midnight. I bet every single electric binkie went back on the instant the swaying and chanting was over. And you should have seen the garbage these Hippie Scum left behind! That always used to surprise me, how they would go to Woodstock or some other love-in and leave the place simply rancid with filth.

Sixteen office blocks owned or leased by the State Government took part. In a few cases, where staff were on 24-hour rosters, lights on some floors had to be kept on, but staff were instructed to pull blinds in order not to detract from the effect of the blackout.

Too funny.
