Why am I not surprised? This was a classic leftie push from the beginning and look at the responses it got, very predictable. Thread by wagglebee.

Very few people could have looked upon Chantal Sébire at the end of her life and not understood why the former schoolteacher wished to end it. Left horribly disfigured and in frequent torment from incurable tumors that amassed in her sinuses and skull, Sébire's plea that doctors be allowed to legally terminate her life deeply moved French public opinion. It also prompted considerable reexamination of the nation's laws prohibiting active euthanasia —reflection that has continued in the wake of Sébire's March 19 suicide. But the passionate debate Sébire's case sparked may well have unfolded differently had the French public been informed about one neglected aspect: that Sébire had continually refused treatment for her disease for nearly a half decade before it evolved to the terminal phase that resulted in her wanting to die.........

Dignity...

Thread by wagglebee.

In the manifesto on the “Sanctity of Life in a Brave New World” that Chuck Colson and I launched with representative Christian leaders in the spring of 2004, we addressed four key areas for Christian concern at the outset of the “biotech century.” They all converge on one concept: eugenics. Eugenics is the idea that we should weed out the sick and the diseased and favor the strong and healthy. It can take many forms, some much worse than others. In any case, eugenics will be the dominant concept of the twenty-first century. How we handle its many facets will determine, under God, the human future....

Michael Schiavo won a legal battle against the Schindlers to carry out what he said was his wife's wish. He testified that she had said she would not want to be kept alive under such circumstances.

After a January 2000 nonjury trial, Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge George Greer ruled that testimony from Schiavo and his relatives provided "clear and convincing evidence" that Terri Schiavo indicated she would not want to be kept alive without hope of improvement.

Even IF everything Mikey "remembered" years afterwards was true, it still doesn't matter because Florida law did not consider nutrition and hydration to be "life support" at the time of Terri's injury.

Maybe it’s not appropriate to say this. Have any of you noticed that the precipitous decline of the GOP started with the murder of Terri? But the Republican Party hierarchy mistakenly thinks that because it at first defended Terri’s right to life and then ran into liberal-hyped polls to the contrary that its political problem is having initially defended her right to life. I think it was Fred D. Thompson who said he was “unfamiliar” with Terri’s murder. And Mitt Romney said he had no opinion on the matter. Could it be that grass-roots right-to-lifers lost interest in the GOP with this judicial murder?

But civil law is retroactive — it’s one of the problems the American people have in interpreting their Constitution.

I think you nailed it. If conservatives can't even trust that the GOP will act to protect the life of a single person, how can we trust that they will do anything else to protect the sanctity of life?

It should also be noted that all of the Democrats who Michael Schiavo supported in the 2006 elections lost.

I know many former Republicans who registered as independents after Jeb strung us along for the big boys. Let us not forget that Gov. Charlie is still being talked about as VP choice. Remember when he was Fl AG, he refused to investigate Terri's civil rights issues. This wasn't about religion alone. Terri's civil rights were being seriously abused. Talk about discrimation! She was discriminated against and then murdered. IF MCCAIN PICKS CRIST, I'M STAYING HOME. Independents can do that you know. Right after Terri died, the GOP lost a big chunk of their base and it was because they stopped helping her, not because they ever tried to help her.

COMPARE the 2004 elections to the 2006 elections. The GOP won in 2004 while Terri was still being protected (although not in ideal conditions) but in 2006, after Terri died (and Katrina just proved their indifference to human life), the GOP LOST elections cuz they lost long time republicans. I tell them when they call to put anti-euthanasia on the platform and maybe I'll come back. I don't even think their telemarketers know what euthanasia is, let alone anti-euthanasia.

Just imagine that the French woman overdosed at least a week ago and she's still in the news. It appears many folks are re-evaluating their views on the value of life each and every time this happens. Since Terri like Fr. Pavone pointed out at Terri's Mass, many people commit the rest of their lives to being pro-life.

Many of these folks were not pro-life before and didn't give the death cult much thought if it didn't affect them. It affects everyone and why fight radical jihad's culture of death if we have our own right here???

2003 Terri given some rights like living.

2004: GOP candidates get re-elected.

2005: Terri was murdered. She had no rights except the right to privacy (so she could be hidden).

2006: GOP started losing ground. 1. Terri & Katrina 2. illegal immigration 3. WOT which to be honest is a drain on the 4. economy but this is what UBL is really trying to bring down!

This is a chronology based upon a nation's frustrations. Now we have 3 POTUS candidates who believe Terri was not worth the time of day. McCain wants my money? I don't think so.

I do support the military in the WOT. We need to git ur dun.

Food for thought. The thought of anything involving the judiciary grinds roughly into my heart as does forced care. I do remember...

Many years ago, also in Oregon, my grandmother broke her hip. Coming home, a teenager, I found her unable to get up and helped get her to bed. But she refused any medical help because of her faith in Christian Science. Nothing would get through to her except her powerful belief in the teachings of Mary Baker Eddy. Something treatable went untreated, and after a month, the house overpowering with the scent of gangrene, she died a very unpleasant death. Even at the end, she cried out for practitioners to come to her aid, but they avoided her and us like the plague.

The faith she clung to was nowhere to be seen, yet we never considered forcing her to accept medical attention. It was simply outside what we could imagine to be the role of the government. This story refreshes my memory.

...................................

Who wins in a battle between parental rights and the criminal justice system? The child, at least in cases where solid science is used to prove that routine medical treatment was withheld from a child by the parents.

Unfortunately for Ava Worthington, none of this matters. It’s too late. The 15-month-old Oregon City, Ore., girl died at home on March 2 of bronchial pneumonia and a blood infection. According to The Associated Press, doctors say the pneumonia and the infection could have been prevented or treated with antibiotics. Her parents, Carl and Raylene Worthington, are accused of using prayer instead of medical care to try to cure Ava. Both pleaded not guilty on Monday in

Clackamas County to charges of manslaughter and criminal mistreatment.

We would not pretend to have the slightest understanding of what this couple is feeling after the death of their daughter. But we know that providing routine medical care to a child is just as basic a parental responsibility as providing routine nutrition. Withholding either is abuse, and although the legal outcome of this case remains to be determined, it appears appropriate for officials to file charges against the couple.

Oregon lawmakers cracked down on faith-healing deaths nine years ago, and this is the first such case since then. But it’s not the first time the Worthingtons’ church, Oregon City’s Followers of Christ Church, has been linked to deaths of children. According to a 1998 AP story, an investigation by The Oregonian revealed that of 78 children buried in the church’s cemetery since 1955, at least 21 could have been saved with medical care.

In Washington state, officials at the state attorney general’s office and the Department of Social and Health Services say no child death in recent years has been linked to faith-healing practices.

It’s important to view this case independently. Linking it to other end-of-life cases such as the Terri Schiavo case or other beginning-of-life issues such as Roe v. Wade is a fool’s errand. The question is singular and simple: Did Ava die because her parents withheld routine medical care? Taking that question into a courtroom in search of a legal answer is not only proper, it’s the fulfillment of Oregon’s obligation to Ava.

In our view: Decide in Court

His views are noble. I only wish they were based on a more firm ground of fact regarding the fate of Terri.

..............................

On the anniversary of an ugly four-year legal battle over whether to remove the feeding tube and end the life of brain-damaged Terri Schiavo, a Dixon attorney is encouraging people to think about the unthinkable: What if such an injury happened to you?

Throughout April, Robert Thompson will draw up a power of attorney document, often called a living will, in exchange for a $15 donation that he will give to KSB Hospice and Hospice of the Rock River Valley.

~Snip~

"Hospice has served my family well, and in the coming weeks will be comforting one of my dear friends as he is taken by an aggressive form of cancer," Thompson said.

For Thompson, the decision to raise awareness of the need for living wills started as he watched the Schiavo family bicker on national television over whether to remove a feeding tube from the unresponsive Florida woman.

"People were kind of in a panic over that. They never want to do that to their family," Thompson said.

Schiavo was 26 when she collapsed in her home and sustained severe brain damage from oxygen deprivation, which left her in a vegetative state for the next 15 years Ñ something for the young folks to keep in mind.

"It's very important for everyone to have a living will. It's not a pretty subject, but young people tend to die in more traumatic incidents, like car crashes, and the need for care can be sudden and difficult," Thompson said.

Just imagine that the French woman overdosed at least a week ago and she's still in the news.

The saddest part of that story is that it's now certain that she was nothing more than a pawn for the culture of death and that her cancer was very treatable.

Many of these folks were not pro-life before and didn't give the death cult much thought if it didn't affect them. It affects everyone and why fight radical jihad's culture of death if we have our own right here???

The non-conservatives around here will NEVER understand that.

I remember last year when we were dealing with all of the Rooty Rooters and none of them seemed at all concerned by his pro-abortion views. It did not seem to matter to them that more Americans die in abortuaries EVERY SINGLE day than died on 9/11/01, more Americans die in abortuaries every two days than have died in the war on terror (including the deaths of 9/11/01).

I saw a billboard yesterday that said the one child is diagnosed with autism every twenty minutes in America. I know some people with autistic children and as heartbreaking as it is, autism is treatable. I wonder what peoples reaction would be if they saw a billboard that pointed out that one American child is murdered in an abortuary EVERY 24 SECONDS.

JOHN MCCAIN IS A JERK. When asked about VP choice, he said it was "in the embryonic stages." As you know, McCain for embryonic stem cell research.

Not only doesn't he know about the economy, he has no sensitivities or understanding that an embryo is already a life. Moronski!

We need a graphic artist to create the art work for billboards and
use on blogs and web sites that:

” more Americans die in abortuaries EVERY SINGLE day than died on 9/11/01, more Americans die in abortuaries every two days than have died in the war on terror (including the deaths of 9/11/01).”

This message needs to permeate the American consciousness and
remaining conscience.
