Former Republican Georgia Rep. Bob Barr is considering a run for president on the Libertarian Party ticket, according to FITNews.
Barr, who joined the Libertarian Party after leaving Congress in 2003, is looking to attract conservatives who are unhappy with the choice of John McCain as the expected Republican presidential nominee. McCain and Barr are at odds primarily over the role of U.S troops in Iraq, although both agree that tough interrogation methods should not be permitted.
FITNews wrote that Barr will receive the endorsement of Texas Republican Rep. Ron Paul, a GOP presidential candidate who is still technically in the race but has not suggested he would throw his support to McCain. McCain and Paul, who ran on the Libertarian Party presidential ticket in 1988, also are at odds primarily over the role of U.S. troops in Iraq.
Barr, who represented Georgias 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House from 1995-2003 and served as a House manager during impeachment proceedings against former President Bill Clinton, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution last week that he identifies closely with Pauls outlook.
Ron Paul tapped into a great deal of that dissatisfaction and that awareness. Unfortunately, working through the Republican party structure, it became impossible for him to really move forward with his movement. But we have to have
.a rallying point out there to harness that energy, that freedom in this election cycle, he said.

April Fools?
Could be interesting... a real small l libertarian pitted between a neocon and a socialist could attract a decent following. The question is will Paul’s ground support and net following latch onto Barr.
Barr is on an ego trip. He is Ron Paul without the “huge” following. He and Gravel can debate about which one is the real nutball.
Barr jumped the shark like Lindsy Graham.
For a minute there, I was hoping that someone might run whom I could actually vote for.
What’s next? Shirley McCain channeling Little Green Men?
Barr has lost it too. A shame. Once he was a good man. Now he is just a vindicative asshole.
Jeez, this Barr guy is a REAL nutball!
First off he was appointed as a U.S. Attorney by that nutball Ronald Reagan. Then he was elected to congress from that notoriously nutball state of Georgia (can you say peanuts?)
Finally, he sat on the Board of Directors of that truly nutball organization the NRA!
Why doesn't this guy go back to the peanut factory from which he came!
Bob Barr will never be elected president with that child molester looking moustache. That stache has to go...it makes him look creepy.
Giving interviews on Antiwar Radio is a sure way to attract the masses.

could he siphon off enough votes to get Obama elected?
Barr will get exactly 27 votes.
No more than Nader will siphon off from the dems, I reckon.

barr is just trying to do some power building at republican expense.
The liberals will have fun noting that in the midst of the Clinton impeachment drive, it was discovered Barr once gave a speech to the Council of Conservative Citizens, a group with ties to a white supremacist. Anything to take the heat of Jere-liar Wright.
“off” Jere-liar Wright, that is.
If he runs, Bob Barr will get my vote. He was a great friend to Free Republic during the terrible Clinton years. Far better than the choices we got now.
