Heather Mills 'may return to court for new Paul McCartney fight'

By Emma Henry
Last Updated: 3:29pm BST 01/04/2008

Heather Mills wants secret documents exposing Sir Paul McCartney's alleged behaviour during their marriage published and may return to court to make it happen, her lawyer has said.

In an interview with the Evening Standard, David Rosen said Miss Mills wants to put the record straight over claims that she is a gold-digger who was only interested in the former Beatle's £400 million fortune.

Heather Mills was described by Mr Justice Bennett as ‘her own worst enemy’

He said his client is also frustrated that the full judgment of the couple's divorce case - in which the judge accused her of "make belief", inconsistency and inaccuracy - was published while the full court transcripts were held back.

Mr Justice Bennett said she was a "less than impressive witness" during the six-day hearing last month who "wholly exaggerated" the extent of her wealth before she met her now ex-husband.

Miss Mills is now considering launching a new legal battle to have all the details made public, which she believes will allow people to make up their own minds, Mr Rosen said.

Last weeks, friends of the former model said she had hired a new team of forensic accountants to try to prove that her ex-husband Paul McCartney is worth double the £400 million he claimed in their divorce struggle.

According to leaked press reports during the lengthy divorce battle, Miss Mills had accused Sir Paul of being violent towards her, but Mr Justice Bennett said he did not take this allegation into account when he released his judgment, which awarded her £24.3 million.

At the time the allegations were made, Sir Paul said he would be "defending these allegations vigorously and appropriately" in the divorce hearing.

Mr Rosen said: "The conduct was not relevant and didn't factor in the judgment. But that doesn't mean to say it is not relevant at all to her and what people may think of her.

"She just wants the public to have the full facts of the case. She wants people to know that she was a good mother and a good wife."

In the interview, Mr Rosen also claimed that Miss Mills was prepared to take only £20m, but that Sir Paul refused to settle out-of-court.

He also claimed his client had offered to sign a pre-nuptial agreement, but Sir Paul had not been keen, and that she was now living in fear of "wackos" after the details of her private life were revealed.

She seems to be seeking defamation more than anything else.

I don’t think the court should allow her to destroy McCarney’s image.

She has gotten a lot of money, more than anyone needs to live on for the rest of their life.

The court needs to step in and shut this ass up.

She got the money she wanted. She got the divorce she wanted. End of fricken storry.

Why should she quit while she’s ahead? She’s a shameless golddigger with a pot-full-of-gold in hand... and no risk of losing that. When you’re a shameless b*, why not go for more?

Of course, if he’d married me when I was in the seventh grade (1969)like I wanted him to he wouldn’t be having this problem now!

Heather should shut up! She's being well provided for and so is her child. I guess she needs the divorce fight more than she needs the alimony and child support from her ex.

People seem to forget that much of Paul’s fortune came from Linda.

Probably because that is completely untrue.

She was heiress to the Eastman-Kodak fortune

The Eastman-Kodak corporate empire was founded in New York in the 1880s by George Eastman, who was born in upstate New York in the 1850s.

Linda McCartney's father was Lee Eastman, whose birth name was Leo Epstein until he changed it. His parents were Jewish refugees from the Russian Revolution.

Lee Eastman was a NYC entertainment lawyer.

she had a hugely successful business in the vegetarian frozen food market. It is said that she was worth $500 million when she died.

Her line of frozen vegetarian foods was one of several hundred product lines of the HAIN Group. She received a percentage of royalties from the sale of foods marketed under her name.

Since HAIN has a market capitalization of $1.22B and sales of $236MM it seems highly unlikely that she would have had $500MM unless she owned 40% or more of the stock - and no McCartney is listed as owning anywhere near that amount. Most likely she owned tens of thousands of shares and received several million in royalties each year. For the seven years she was alive and marketing food, she probably accumulated $20-30M. A very nice amount of money - but a drop in the bucket compared to her husband's Beatles money.

Nope, Paul accounted for about 95% of the couple's wealth.

It probably means $60M in sales per year, which would then translate to about $6M in profits per year.

If there is one thing journalists get confused about in financial reporting it is the difference between revenues and net income.
