Ted Turner: Global Warming Will Cause Mass Cannibalism
Newsbusters.org ^ | April 2, 2008 | Brent Baker

Posted on 04/02/2008 1:08:30 PM PDT by Alouette

Interviewed Tuesday for Charlie Rose's PBS show, CNN founder Ted Turner argued that inaction on global warming “will be catastrophic” and those who don't die “will be cannibals.” He also applied moral equivalence in describing Iraqi insurgents as “patriots” who simply “don't like us because we've invaded their country” and so “if the Iraqis were in Washington, D.C., we'd be doing the same thing.” On not taking drastic action to correct global warming:

Not doing it will be catastrophic. We'll be eight degrees hotter in ten, not ten but 30 or 40 years and basically none of the crops will grow. Most of the people will have died and the rest of us will be cannibals.

Turner ridiculed the need for a big U.S. military, insisting “China just wants to sell us shoes. They're not building landing craft to attack the United States,” and “even with our $500 billion military budget, we can't win in Iraq. We're being beaten by insurgents who don't even have any tanks.” After Rose pointed out the Iraqi insurgents “have a lot of roadside bombs that kill a lot of Americans” and wondered “where do you think they come from?”, Turner answered:

I think that they're patriots and that they don't like us because we've invaded their country and occupied it. I think if the Iraqis were in Washington, D.C., we'd be doing the same thing: we'd be bombing them too. Nobody wants to be invaded.

how much hotter were we supposed to be by now 10, 20, 30, 40 years ago? Wait! back then we faced an imminent ice age because of Reagan’s militarism and coal-fired plants

When you’re too much of a nutball for Jane F’n Fonda to stay with...

you need to examine yourself a little better.

Did anybody actually hear old Teddy here during this interview? He sounded like an illiterate from the bowels of Africa.

He slipped once and said that the oceans would rise 8 inches, and vast areas of the Earth would become desert. All within 10 years. He then caught himself, probably because he and most of us will be alive in 10 years to nail him on it, and said 30 to 40 years.

These idiots know it’s a hoax. They’re preying on the stupid hoping to cash in on the new scam called “carbon credits”.

Are there no gibbets anymore? Why do we let traitors like this person walk the streets? Why aren’t Rosie O’Donnell, Jane Fonda, Michael Moore, Sean Penn, Cindy Sheehan, Jeremiah Wright, Ted Turner and the rest of that motley crew swinging from a yardarm or standing in front of firing squads? What has happened to the country I was born in 48 years ago?!

“if the Iraqis were in Washington, D.C., we'd be doing the same thing.”

What do you mean "we"? I would expect that Ted Turner would be the first to welcome our new Iraqi overlords.

A lot of the support, funding and terrorists are coming from Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria. The last thing any of those countries want is a stable democracy in the middle of the Mideast, doubly so for Iran because with Iraq we almost have Iran surrounded with countries nominally friendly to us with Turkey, Iraq, Pakistan and Afghanistan. One major failing we had is that we underestimated Iran's determination to harm us in Iraq.

The funny thing is that, mathematically, everyone in the world could live in the state of Texas, 4 people to a house, each house on 1/4 acre of land.

If I’m off, it’s not by much.

On not taking drastic action to correct global warming: "Not doing it will be catastrophic."

Looks like Ted didn't read the UN report: Climate changes now "irreversible"

But he's far from the only leftist who's ignored this finding. Accepting its conclusion would effectively put an end to their activism.

“The funny thing is that, mathematically, everyone in the world could live in the state of Texas, 4 people to a house, each house on 1/4 acre of land.

If I’m off, it’s not by much.”

Not funny. Not exactly true. Do you think all the land in Texas is inhabitable? Would you like to live like that? We have cities now so overcrowded nothing but a criminal and poverty can come out of it...you want to make it worse? Do you think our infrastructure is sound? If the likes of Bush/McCAin have their way, your scenario may come true.

Take a look at what living like you describe looks like...in Texas.

What is a Colonia? THE THIRD WORLD IN THE USA (photos)

Texas Secretary of State’s Definition:

The term “colonia,” in Spanish means a community or neighborhood. The Office of the Secretary of State defines a “colonia” as a residential area along the Texas-Mexico border that may lack some of the most basic living necessities, such as potable water and sewer systems, electricity, paved roads, and safe and sanitary housing.

In recent years the Texas-Mexico border region has experienced an explosion of growth in population and industrial activity. Although growth has resulted in economic opportunities, it has also intensified the environmental health and social challenges.

Among the border states, Texas has the largest number of colonias approximately 1,800 communities, with more than 500,000 residents. Sixty-five percent of all residents, and 85% of residents under the age of 18, were born in the United States. (aka Anchor babies) These Americans live in extreme poverty and often are unaware of the services that the United States and Texas can provide for them. Education is a key to addressing the problems faced by colonia residents, but reaching out to these communities poses unique challenges that require unique approaches.

Ninety-eight percent of the residents are Hispanic and speak little or no English.[snip]

Can you say right place at the right time. It didn’t hurt that he inherited his Dad’s outdoor advertising business which included that included that TV station in Atlanta at a time Cable TV was hungry for content.

Kinda like Donald Trump became a Billionaire. His trick was to start with about $200 million in New York City Real Estate right before the big real estate boom in New York City.
