Possibly to avoid being one-upped on Indiana national security politics, former President Bill Clinton told a crowd in Columbus, Indiana, today that his wife had tried to join the Army.
"I remember when we were young, right out of law school, she went down and tried to join the Army and they said 'Your eyes are so bad, nobody will take you,'" he said, after heralding her record on issues of concern to the military, such as body armor and access to health care.
I assume this is a version of the "Hillary Clinton tried to join the Marines" anecdote that then-First Lady Clinton told in 1994 that we wondered about since it's a story she never seems to have told again.
The original story was that in Fayetteville, Arkansas, in 1975, Hillary walked into a local Marines recruiting office. The Marine recruiter looked at her, she recalled, and asked how old she was. Twenty-seven, she said.
"He looked at me, and in those days that was before I learned how to wear contact lenses," Sen. Clinton told a crowd of women veterans in 1994. "I had these really thick glasses on. He said, ‘How bad's your eyesight?' I said, ‘It's pretty bad.' …Finally said to me, he said, 'You're too old. You can't see. And you're a woman.…But maybe the dogs would take you.'"
("Dogs" being a reference to the Army.)
Perhaps she did so -- and hence Bill Clinton's Army story today?
Or maybe he's conflating the two stories?

Calling BS on this one. I was 20/600 in both eyes and had astigmatism in both eyes. Without my glasses, I could not even see the eye chart.
Here is the short version:
The causes for rejection for appointment, enlistment, and induction are:
a. Distant visual acuity of any degree that does not correct with spectacle lenses to at least one of the following (367):
(1) 20/40 in one eye and 20/70 in the other eye.
(2) 20/30 in one eye and 20/100 in the other eye.
(3) 20/20 in one eye and 20/400 in the other eye. However, for entrance into a military academy, distant visual acuity that does not correct to 20/20 in each eye is disqualifying. For entrance into ROTC programs and OCS/OTS, distant visual acuity that does not correct to 20/20 in one eye and 20/100 in the other eye is disqualifying.
b. Near visual acuity (367) of any degree that does not correct to 20/40 in the better eye.
c. Refractive error (hyperopia (367.0), myopia (367.1), astigmatism (367.2)), in any spherical equivalent of worse than -8.00 or + 8.00 diopters; if ordinary spectacles cause discomfort by reason of ghost images or prismatic displacement; or if corrected by orthokeratology or keratorefractive surgery. However, for entrance into a military academy or ROTC programs, the following conditions are disqualifying:
(1) Astigmatism, all types over 3 diopters.
(2) Hyperopia over 8.00 diopters spherical equivalent.
(3) Myopia over 6.75 diopters spherical equivalent.
(4) Refractive error corrected by orthokeratology or keratorefractive surgery.
d. Contact lenses. Complicated cases requiring contact lenses for adequate correction of vision, such as corneal scars (371) and irregular astigmatism (367.2).
e. Color vision (368.5). Although there is no standard, color vision will be tested because adequate color vision is a prerequisite for entry into many military specialties. However, for entrance into a military academy or ROTC or OCS/OTS programs, the inability to distinguish and identify without confusion the color of an object, substance, material, or light that is uniformly colored a vivid red or vivid green is disqualifying.

What a load of crap. You can have worse than 20-200 vision and still be accepted by the Army. It just has to be correctable to 20-20. Right out of law school I would imagine she would want to join the JAG Corps, which would take her even if she were damn near blind.
There really is no limit to the lies that these two will tell in their pathetic quest for power and acceptance. That woman and her husband HATE the military, why on earth would she want to join an organization she despises?

When Military DID try to get Klinton to join them, he got a memo or note from someone, I think it was fake, and then headed to Russia or Canada (if I recall correctly). Later on he explained it away that everyone who was related to the memo has died so there is no way from him to clear up the issue.

I came to the realization that Davis actually believes that his opponents are just as mendacious and soulless as he is; that's how he's able to deal with defending the Clintons' lies.

as long as the eyesight is correctable ala eyeglasses;
they’ll take you...and obviously her eyesight was & is correctable...I don’t see her walking around with a cane or a “seeing eye dog!”
Of course, Bill Clinton wouldn’t know that they would take her because he spent his elgiblilty years running away from the draft!
And I KNOW they’ll take you if you have bad eyesight but correctable with eyeglasses because they took me...and I’m as blind as a BAT
