Police: Teen Gave Birth, Tried To Flush Baby
The Indy Channel ^ | 04/03/08

Posted on 04/03/2008 1:57:27 PM PDT by Abathar

BAYTOWN, Texas -- A 14-year-old gave birth to a baby in a junior high school bathroom and tried to flush the newborn down the toilet, killing the infant, police told Houston television station KPRC.

Grief counselors helped students and staff on Thursday deal with the incident.

Baytown police said the eighth-grade student delivered the near full-term baby at Cedar Bayou Junior High School on Wednesday morning while she was alone.

The baby was born alive, investigators said.

"We understand that the baby was alive when it was born and that the girl attempted to flush the child down the toilet. The child died as a result of these actions," said Lt. Eric Freed of the Baytown Police Department.

Another student who walked into the restroom heard the baby crying and ran to get the nurse and assistant principal. But by the time they arrived, officials said, it was too late.

The case is being treated as a homicide, detectives said. Police have not said if the baby was a boy or a girl.

"According to everyone I talked to, no one knew that she was pregnant," said Kathy Clausen of the Goose Creek Independent School District.

The unidentified girl was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was listed in stable condition.

The baby's father is not yet known.

A letter was sent home to parents about the incident.

"The staff handled it beautifully. I can't tell you they weren't upset because they were. Everyone was upset. It's a very upsetting situation. It's a sad situation," Clausen said.

As news of the tragedy spread throughout the community, parents rushed to the school to pick up their children.

Albert Contreas braced himself for a difficult discussion with his son.

"One life being flushed down the commode. It's God's creation. You don't mess around with God's creation," he said.

Parents said their children asked many questions when they got home.

"She just said, 'How could she do that, mom?'" parents Donna Abundis said. "She's just like, 'Why did that have to happen?' She was very concerned about it, too."

Classmates said the girl is a good student and they had no idea she was about to give birth.

"No one knew she was pregnant," said Veronica Roy, the mother of a student who knows the girl. "I imagine she knew she was pregnant but just didn't tell anyone."

Roy said her son heard screaming coming from the bathroom.

"They just couldn't believe it because nobody knew she was pregnant. He said she wasn't showing or anything. It was a surprise."

Even though the case is being investigated as a homicide, detectives said they are looking into the possibility that the baby's death could have been an accident.

Baytown, Texas, is located about 25 miles east of downtown Houston.

This is the second Houston-area 14-year-old to secretly deliver a baby this week.

A fetus was found in a trash bin aboard a Continental Airlines jet on Sunday. Investigators determined the fetus was stillborn and the Harris County District Attorney's Office declined to press charges against the mother.

This poor child, both the mother and the infant. How could someone live with themselves after doing something like this is beyond me. She will live her entire life fearing the sound of a newborn cry for the memories that it will bring. Truly a horrible thing all around.

Unbelievably tragic, but a logical and predictable outcome of the culture of death that “abortion rights” has spawned.

Just call it a post-birth abortion and it'll all be fine.

Not.

Why not? Flush them, chrush their skulls, vacuum their brains - a baby is just a fetus outside the body.

The bitter fruits of abortion come home to roost.

Maybe, if she has a conscience.

“Truly a horrible thing all around.”

Yes, it is.

Is this the same staff that would have gladly referred this young girl to an abortion mill?

A 14-year-old gave birth to a baby in a junior high school bathroom and tried to flush the newborn down the toilet, killing the infant,

And yet if she had enlisted the aid of a "physician", without notice to her parents mind you, and stabbed the infant's skull, sucked out it's brains, and had the abortionist dispose of the offending tissue, her "procedure" would have been performed legally in most states in this Godforsaken Obamaworld of a country - thereby avoiding the punishment of having to bear that child.

Those cries didn’t stop her from flushing it in the toilet, it’s doubtful it will ever bother her. Some people have no conscience, and that includes some children. These kind never commit suicide. Too bad. But ALL babies are innocent. I just can’t find a good excuse for her.

I share your sentiments. I’m horrified and disgusted and angry.

So please don’t me mad at me for saying this. There are some things that are just not flushable. Korans and babies are 2 such things. How dumb is this girl?

Poor baby. Coming into a new environment after uterine contractions shaking up his little world, and then being flushed. I’m thinking she must have done some other horrible things to him that I fear to comtemplate.

Not all schools are like that throughout the country.

I live in central Indiana in a small town where my kids go to a church for an hour every week during school for a non-denominational bible class.

This town has 70 churches in it the last time I counted in the phonebook, we still know what is right and wrong for the most part.

If word got out a teacher was pushing that cr*p here there would be a lot of fuss made, both from the students and the parents.

Well said, and so incredibly sad. My wife and I are expecting our first and it’s turned me from being pro-life to being completely and totally anti-abortion. We’ve seen our child sticking its tongue out at about 13 weeks and playing with its feet on the ultrasound at 17 weeks , you can’t tell me that’s not a human being deserving of every right. At this point I’ve reached the logical endpoint of my ideology. This is an example of the logical end point of the opposite ideology.

All babies are innocent. The most innocent form of human life.

This is why the abortion issue is THE quintessential issue of “liberalism”.

“Liberalism”, at its core, is simply about using FORCE (gov’t) to make the innocent and responsible pay for the consequences of irresponsible (guilty) behavioral choices. Every issue can be boiled down to this.

Abortion uses DEADLY force, to make the MOST INNOCENT pay for the consequences of irresponsible, often frivolous, behavior, WITH ITS VERY LIFE.

Congratulations, it is truly impossible to know just how life-changing an event it is until you actually experience it.

All I can say is just relax, enjoy the ride and remember all those words of wisdom that everyone told you when you were young and then immediately ignored so you can also be immediately ignored in turn. :)

I've met people like that. It's all me, me, me. I still remember the chills when a girl told me on the lawn that abortions don't hurt and you can have sex the same night.

I was liberal back then but always against this. Remember that abortion is a symptom of social decay and not the disease itself.

I think people are missing the point....this girl could have been only 13 when she was impregnated...13!

now let's all moan about these horrible results but the root of the problem is our over sexualized culture and the ever prescent code of "if it feels good, do it"..

and let's put up a few more Hooters "restaurants" just to reinforce to these young 13 yro girls what they are really worth.....

There are people who kidnap, torture, rape and kill several, even dozens, of women. Others who engaged in death camp atrocities that would freeze the soul.

The idea that someone who thinks of the life of her baby as a punishment or as something to be hidden because she has ‘other things to do in life’ or doesn’t want to ruin her ‘reputation’ would kill that baby doesn’t seem that far-fetched.

Sad thing is, the baby was born. Just as many are-—why not let someone adopt the child? Why murder it in such a cold-hearted fashion when it’s already been born.

Have you heard the recording of the “13 yr old girl” calling planned parenthood and asking to get an abortion since she was pregnant by her “22 yr old boyfriend”.

It was a sting, but the person at PP said to come in, tell them you’re 16, and don’t mention the “father”, especially his age.

IE, they are covering up statutory rape.

There's no comparison. Among kids in home-school social networks, the peer pressure is to do the right thing, and the parents are usually around as well. In most public, and many private schools, the pressure is often to do the wrong thing, and the parents are far away. I know some great, God-fearing, strong-willed kids in public school who will turn out great, but in public schools, for troubled kids and for the mushy middle, the leverage is all wrong.
