Because she's a senator and the Constitution says that she will receive a compensation for her service (Article I, Section 6). She could donate the salary to charity, but she can't refuse to accept it.

There’s more categories than that. Bill has certain business partnerships where large sums have been paid for his ‘participation’.

Compare the Clintons with the behavior of R.E. Lee and U.S. Grant after the Civil War. Though they needed the money, and plenty of businesses wanted to pay to get to use their name as a figurehead, each was careful to consider their honor and the propriety of the offers.

The Clintons just had their hand out. They wanted to join the rich and famous as quickly as they could.

Their deadbeat habits have not changed one bit, only broadened.
