I only remember “Bulbul” ‘s comment, which is far too stupid to take offense at. It makes no sense. Bulbul is a moron. THe other one I didn’t see. And the point I was making was that I couldn’t find the predictably vile things on HPost someone else had said were there. All I saw was Mark Joseph’s article, which looked like it was put in there as a palliative. HOWEVER, what I read on Democratic Underground was appalling, I couldn’t believe it, and I said so in an earlier post.

Nobody else has mentioned it, so I will: by Heston’s side was his wife of 64 years. A one-woman man for more than half a century in Hollywood. God Bless You, Mr. Heston. Rest in Peace.

My favorite Heston story, Lydia was giving an interview talking about when they met in college. She said she took one look at him and knew he was the man she wanted to marry: "Those shoulders!! I knew I'd never have to carry my own luggage ever again!" LOL

R.I.P., Chuck -- thank you so much for all the memorable performances, great memories.

In all fairness one of the nicest articles about Heston was written by a notorious liberal, Richard Dreyfuss.

Thank you for the link to that great article. Dreyfuss may be a lib, but he is a real actor (unlike Cruise and the Baldwins) and can appreciate greatness even when he disagrees with the person.

Aside from that, a lot of his activism has been about stuff conservatives have complained about, mainly the infringement of constitutional rights in the name of national security.

I kind of hesitated getting on the elevator, when he smiled and said, There's plenty of room, come on in.

He never let his fame get to his head. He never thought he was better than everybody else even though that was close to the truth.

Truly great men have great humility.

I’m probably going to irritate some here, but I have to say it. President Reagan was worthy of putting that medal around Heston’s neck, not so sure about Bush.

I guess I can be glad Clinton didn’t try to award it as some publicity stunt.

and Harry Harrison was also never happy with the movie.

I think the only author who was ever truly happy with the movie version of his work was Arthur C. Clarke with 2001. But that's because it was a close collaboration between him and Kubrick, writing the book and screenplay together.

He may be the only famous person able to make the jump from “civil” rights to gun rights, as he walked with MLK years before he was President of the NRA.

I think what's telling is that he supported civil rights years before it was fashionable among the Hollywood elites, and supported gun rights long after it wasn't fashionable anymore. A man of principle.

A giant as an actor. A true icon to emulate. He'll always be Moses cinematically to me. He was a great blessing to many. May GOD richly reward him.

You are so right.

He had a wonderful voice, and his readings/narration were fantastic.

I was saddened to learn of Charlton Heston's passing. Over the years, I often wished he had made more films than what he did. I remember seeing him in the theater in "The Ten Commandments". Nothing like seeing that majestic performance on the big screen.

And I was a big fan of the Apes films. Kudos to you, Mr. Heston.

My pleasure. El Cid was one of my favorite CH movies. He and Sophia Loren were magnificent together.

Charlton Heston was a true American PATRIOT! He loved his country, without any doubt, and spent his life making Americans glad they live here. Rest in Peace, dear Friend, Rest in Peace!

Recall that El Cid is a corruption of Al Sayyid, Arabic for the (war)lord.
