British and American Brothers in arms: Shoulder to Shoulder Again

There has been a lot of negative talk on here about our allies, the British. There has evidently been a lot of negative talk in the UK about America as well.

Despite all that, I still believe that Britain is among one or two countries in the world that the US can truly call a "friend" as well as an ally. Australia may be another. We do indeed have a "special relationship" and it would be tragic to see that end. Our two nations are the last, best hope for freedom and right in the world, and though we may have disagreements, the bottom line is when the chips are down, we will hopefully always be there for eachother.

There has been much talk about the strategy that the British Army has chosen in southeastern Iraq and the drawdown of troops there. Both are indeed unfortunate. But I would remind everyone that the British also have almost as many actual combat troops in Afghanistan as we do--and when you consider how much smaller the UK armed forces are, this is a symbol of British resolve.

I had the honor of spending some time with some of her majesty's Royal Marine Commandos in the mid-80s when I was serving in the US Marine Corps. To this day they made a lasting impression on me. I still regard the Royal Marines as the most highly trained light infantry force in the world and their SBS as among the top spec ops units in the world.

There are two videos on YouTube which pay fitting tribute to the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom. May our friendship and alliance last forever in the cause of freedom and liberty against evil and tyranny.

Please take a few minutes and watch these inspiring videos...

I still think their Union Jack gym shorts were a bit much, however.
