Thandie Newton, Ioan Gruffudd cast in 'W'
The Hollywood Reporter ^ | April 5, 2008 | Steven Zeitchik

"The Bush administration is coming together -- and adding a key ally for good measure.

Oliver Stone has found the actress to play Condoleezza Rice in his upcoming "W," with Thandie Newton in final negotiations to star as the National Security Advisor-turned-Secretary of State.

Meanwhile, Ioan Gruffudd is in final talks to play former British prime minister Tony Blair.

Rice and Blair are the first non-Bush roles to be cast; Josh Brolin, James Cromwell, Elizabeth Banks and Ellen Burstyn had previously been cast as George W., George Sr., Laura and Barbara Bush, respectively...."

Well, at least no one can complain of Oliver Stone making anyone look ugly...

I'm betting that ol' Ollie has put down the meth stem and is making an honest effort here to direct a film that large numbers of people will actually pay to see. Recall that he did do a pretty good non-political 9-11, ground-zero movie.

Ioann Gruffudd's biggest recent role was as the abolitionist hero William Wilberforce in "Amazing Grace" last year. Tony Blair, being a shallow sort, will be most gratified, I am sure.

Ian Howyaspellit is “Horatio Hornblower” in the A&E series. Cute as can be. And Thandie Newton is beautiful.

The guy who played Tony Blair in “The Queen” was pretty good. It will be hard to top him.

Let’s produce one! Stockard Channing for Monica.

Who should play Bill?

Hilliary?

Hillary?

Hillary doesn't look like Bill at all. Neither does Chelsea, for that matter ...

I love Condi, but Thandie Newton? Seriously? What is Brad Pitt gonna play John McCain? How about Gisele Bundchen for Hillary Clinton? Good grief.

Another box office loser in the making... Why don’t these nitwits get it —> Most Americans don’t want movies that criticize our president, our country, our military, and our people in general... unless of course said people belong to the liberal elite whose stories would make great crime movies, e.g. Clintons.

And Danny DeVito doubling as Helen Thomas and Madeline Albright.

John Lithgow would make a perfect Janet Reno.

Why no Clinton films? Makes you wonder.

Because raging Hollyweird Leftists don't criticize their own. Stone's goal will be to make George W. seem absolutely horrible. I mean, just look at the cast. Here's a sample:

Josh Brolin as W. Brolin's daddy is married to Barbra Streisand.

James Cromwell is way out there on the fringe Left. He donated to Dennis Kucinich, Barbara Boxer, Howard Dean and to Progressive Democrats of America PAC.

Ellen Burstyn practices a religion called Sufism. Now 74, she was in her mid-30's when she came under the tutelage of Sufi teacher Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan. He gave her the spiritual name Hadiya, which means "she who is guided" in Arabic. In her autobiography she writes, "And the idea that we didn’t have to say, “I am a Christian” or, “I am a Buddhist” or, “I am a Muslim,” but, "I am a spirit opening to the truth that lives in all of these religions,” brings you into a place where you see that the differences are in the dogma, and the essence is very, very similar.

I sincerely doubt it. I would hope you're correct, but I don't think Stone or Hollywood can resist playing their own awful biases into both the acting and the script.

Josh Brolen as Pres Bush? Isn't Brolen's father Mr. Barbra Streisand? And didn't James Brolen play Reagan in some Hollywood leftist smear of the Great communicator.

As Han Solo said in Star Wars, "I got a bad feeling about this."

He was incredibly good in A&E's Horatio Hornblower series 10 years ago. That was the first time I saw him. Very talented.

I can’t understand why Thandie Newton accepted this role, unless there is going to be a Condi going topless scene.
Stone must of promised her that her pantsuit would be see-through.

Ari Fleischer has seen the script. He said the scenes involving him never happened.

He said the main theme of the movie is painting Bush as going to war as a vendetta against Saddam for trying to kill his father and because he was once a heavy drinker and feels he has to prove his self-worth. Yep, thats what its going to be.

I read something recently in Robert “Buzz” Patterson’s book “War Crimes-The Left’s campaign to Destroy our Military and Lose the War on Terror” that I found depressing, but explained a lot:

Only 30% of Hollywood’s revenues now come from the USA. They are pandering to the rest of the world.

One, this would explain the complete lack of quality that has been coming out of Hollywood for years.

Two, that would explain the anti-American theme of film after film...all these antiwar movies like “Stop Loss” and such.

It all makes sense.
