The statements of Jeremiah Wright aren't controversial and incendiary; they're wicked and stupid.
Slate ^ | March 24, 2008 | Christopher Hitchens

It's been more than a month since I began warning Sen. Barack Obama that he would become answerable for his revolting choice of a family priest. But never mind that; the astonishing thing is that it's at least 11 months since he himself has known precisely the same thing.

"If Barack gets past the primary," said the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to the New York Times in April of last year, "he might have to publicly distance himself from me. I said it to Barack personally, and he said yeah, that might have to happen."

Pause just for a moment, if only to admire the sheer calculating self-confidence of this. Sen. Obama has long known perfectly well, in other words, that he'd one day have to put some daylight between himself and a bigmouth Farrakhan fan.

But he felt he needed his South Side Chicago "base" in the meantime. So he coldly decided to double-cross that bridge when he came to it. And now we are all supposed to marvel at the silky success of the maneuver.

You often hear it said, of some political or other opportunist, that he would sell his own grandmother if it would suit his interests. But you seldom, if ever, see this notorious transaction actually being performed...

To have accepted Obama's smooth apologetics is to have lowered one's own pre-existing standards for what might constitute a post-racial or a post-racist future. It is to have put that quite sober and realistic hope, meanwhile, into untrustworthy and unscrupulous hands. And it is to have done this, furthermore, in the service of blind faith.

Mark my words: This disappointment is only the first of many that are still to come.

Would someone please tell me why is everybody is suddenly so lathered up about Jeremiah Wright.

There is absolutely no difference whatsoever between him and the leadership level (repeat: leadership level) of many of Americas mainstream Protestant churches, other than the racial 'black liberation' component. This has been the case for a long, long time now. McCain is identified as a long time Episcopalian. Does anyone need to be reminded of what the Episcopal Church is about these days? Hillary! is a long time United Methodist member. They are one of the main pillars of the National Council of Churches. Check them out if you are unfamiliar with their 'beliefs'.

As far as I'm concerned, anyone who whines about Obamas church and has nothing to say about these others is nothing but a hypocrite.

” why is everybody is suddenly so lathered up about Jeremiah Wright.”

Many reasons . First, we are trying to understand what he stands for or against.

Obama has done very little so far in life to form a basis for a run at the POTUS. He has never run a city ( mayor ), never run a state ( governor ), never run a business, nor met a payroll with his own money...

Second, Obama is very silent on his personal goals if he were to win. He is for change...whatever that is.

Third, important people who put a roof over his head, clothes on his back, fed him, paid for expensive private education...are thrown under his bus because they have the wrong skin color.

People who had no role in Obama’s early life are dragged out as if they did. Why ? Because they have the correct ‘ pc ‘ skin color and they are muslims ?

Jeremiah Wright was his mentor...for twenty years.

One can learn alot from the company that they keep for twenty years : espically when little else is provided.

In this video clip, a Muslim says he calls the church Obama is a member of. When the caller asks about what does it require to become a member, the answers are eye-opening.

I believe Dr. Sowell made an excellent point about Obama being a member of a racist and anti-American church for 20 years, more people should be upset.

First, we are trying to understand what he stands for or against.

You will never understand it, because he is never going to tell you. But this is no different than any of the other socialists who control public policy in America.

http://www.freedomsenemies.com/_Obama/ObamaReligion.htm

Excerpt:

Many people doubt that Obama can believe this filth, but Obama admits that the first thing that attracted him to Trinity was the “Black Value System.” A system based on James Cone’s revelation that Jesus is for black people only, “In the New Testament, Jesus is not for all, but for the oppressed, the poor and unwanted of society, and against oppressors ... Either God is for black people in their fight for liberation and against the white oppressors, or he is not.” Add to this his twenty year membership, marriage, and baptism of his daughters and you have a Presidential candidate that is up to his ears in hatred of white people.

America be warned, Obama’s god is very similar to the god of jihad and terror. Obama’s faith and extreme Islam share a common thread: they both see America as an oppressor that god has decided to destroy. As James Cone says, “What we need is the divine love as expressed in Black Power, which is the power of black people to destroy their oppressors here and now by any means at their disposal. Unless God is participating in this holy activity, we must reject his love.”

Whenever I see one of Barack Obama’s smooth performances, it reminds me of a saying from my old neighborhood in Harlem: “An eel is like sandpaper compared to you.”

The same people who have gone ballistic when some prominent figure is found to belong to some all-male social club are full of excuses for why Barack Obama remained a member of a racist and anti-American church for 20 years.

There is no question that Barack Obama is a clever and glib fellow. There is also no question that some of the most foolish, dangerous and horrific things done around the world in the past hundred years have been done by clever and glib fellows.

From this quote, you can take out the words 'Obamas faith' and plug in a great many mainstream denominational beliefs instead. It's just warmed over liberation theology from the 60's and 70's. Socialism with a religeous face. It uses the gospel of Jesus Christ as a convenient prop to promote one world government, redistribution of wealth on a global scale, the end of any meaningful national sovereignty, and the institution of secular humanist values. There is absolutely nothing anomalous about Obamas church or belief system, whatever they may be. This stuff doesn't just come out of a void.

Can any students of history tell me if any other candidate this frighteningly anti-American has ever gotten this close to the presidency?

Insofar as there being deepseated dislike of American power and the pursuit of American interests are concerned, Jimmy Carter comes to mind. (see Panama canal, American hostages etc.) The main difference was that in the 70's congress wasn't as willing to give up on American interests as now, so that put somewhat of a brake on.

As to wealth redistribution and government takeover of the private economy, Gene McCarthy and George McGovern maybe. Also Hillary!.

in that regard, you certainly would know more than me...I'm an Aussie. We don't have a 'black church' in which the 'reverend' preaches GOD DAMN AUSTRALIA from the pulpit...so there's no chance of a long term member of 'his' congregation standing for election as Prime Minister.

But I can imagine what would happen to such a candidate, if we did! All the Greeks, Italians, Chinese, Vietnamese, Maltese, Latvians, Lithuanians, Hungarians, Poles, Russians, Germans, Austrains, Ukranians, Serbs, Croats, Iraqi's, Koreans, Tibetans, Indians from the subcontinent, South Africans, English, Scots, Irish, Papuans, Tongans, New Zealanders, Dutch, Swedes, Norwegans...(you get the picture?) WOULD THROW ROCKS AT HIM! WHY? BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL AUSTRALIANS!

But Wright was a former Muslim and black nationalist who had studied at Howard and Chicago, and Trinity’s guiding principles–what the church calls the “Black Value System”–included a “Disavowal of the Pursuit of Middleclassness.’”

The bottom line is that tens of millions of whites are going to dismiss any further accusations of being racist. Blacks support Obama, Obama supports Wright. Whites should give a small thought of thanks to Obama. Singlehandedly he exposed the vile and wicked side of black theology, and it has permanently insulated whites from further nonsensical racial epithets. Whites are free to ignore this crap because of Wright. The race hustlers are only going to be laughed at now, and no one will take them seriously. All the people will have to do is to invoke the name of Reverend Wright and his church of hate and bigotry.

Wright/Obama finally made it acceptable for people of good will, who love this country and all its people, to call out the real rascists that poison our society: those who teach hate to the next generation under the rubric of "Black Liberation Theology."

Not to mention for personal gain. Wright promptly moved into a $1M home in a Typical White Person golf course community.

1 Timothy 6:3 If anyone teaches false doctrines and does not agree to the sound instruction of our Lord Jesus Christ and to godly teaching, 4 he is conceited and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy interest in controversies and quarrels about words that result in envy, strife, malicious talk, evil suspicions 5 and constant friction between men of corrupt mind, who have been robbed of the truth and who think that godliness is a means to financial gain.

The Apostle Paul certainly forsaw the Jeremiah Wright's of the world.

For the record, I don't disagree with you that Obamas association with Jeremiah Wright is deeply disturbing, since he may well be the next POTUS.

What I find perplexing is why everyone seems intent on ignoring the destructive church teachings of the other candidates, which amounts to the same thing, just without the flamboyance and bellicosity. These church leaders know how to say "G** D*** America" quietly with Phd language they learned at Harvard Divinity School.

People assume that leftists always develop their worldview in academic surroundings, but I think they also often get it from growing up in the leftist churches. In at least three of the largest mainstream denominational churches, there has been a total and complete leftwing coup in recent years. The schism in the Episcopal church is just the tip of the iceburg. In the world of organized religeon, Jeremiah Wright is mainstream.
