Washington Post ^ | April 4, 2008 | Allison Klein

D.C. police have scaled back plans to go door-to-door asking residents in high-crime neighborhoods whether officers can search their homes for guns as part of a new amnesty program aimed at getting weapons off the streets. The Safe Homes program instead will be offered by appointment only at residents' request, said Chief Cathy L. Lanier...

Liberal policies and core voters have descended into 24/7 farce.

Would somebody who knew there were illegal guns (stolen, serials tampered, etc.) invite the cops in?

If someone didn’t know there were illegal guns in their home wouldn’t they do a bit of searching on their own before possibly incriminating a member of their family?

Won’t the people inviting the cops in have nothing hidden and therefore nothing to find and therefore waste the cops’ time while the mayhem continues unabated thanks to cops running a fool’s errand?

Fact is, guilty people give the police permission to search all the time. The police are just taking advantage of some weird psychological facts.

Add to this the grandmother that lets the cops in and the teenaged son has drugs and/or guns in his room. I’m sure this is REALLY common.

All you gotta do is say “no, thank you. My home is self policed.”

“...to be request only.”

As though they have a choice. I guess that statement is all part of the softening up of the sheeple to think the police have the right to not make it a request.

A Safe Homes program similar to the District's was announced in Boston last week after several months of citizen resistance and delays. That department has yet to get a call to search a home.

No kidding.

It’s a plot to keep the cops busy looking in lingere and sock drawers while the young ones in the family take the
guns out on the street and “do sump’in useful” with them.

Logically speaking, I have to think there will be ... oh ... like maybe no one who actually sets up an appointment to invite police to search their house. But, then again, ...

WTF? The people with nothing illegal probably will see the search as a waste of police time and not feel like going through it, and the people with illegal guns definitely WON’T be inviting the cops in! This is one of the stupidest ideas I’ve ever heard...

If the guns are in someone's home, they're already "off the streets."

It’ll be good for a laugh when momma calls the cops in to search for Jr.’s gun and they find the boyfriend’s crack stash instead.

I can picture the wife saying to the cop, “Oh, by the way Boys, while you are looking for stolen guns would you mind seeing if you can locate my sisters diamond necklace”.

The funny part is it makes sense, dammit. You are paying them anyway, so why not get then into multi-tasking?

citizen resistance

Unintentionally hilarious and ironic MSM dictionary entry #489

Can't have those citizens resisting can we? How will we ever get them onto the electric monorail cattle cars? What about tax increases? We don't want ANY resistance.

What's that? Liberty? So 18th Century.

Don’t question the lexicon of big-city affirmative-action hire police chiefs.

They know the buzzwords and they’re gonna use ‘em!

Since it is DC, land of the lawyer, the logical step after they don't find it, is to sue the police for stealing the necklace!

If people are stupid enough to set up an appointment and consent to the police to search their house without a warrant, they deserve everything they’re going to get.
