I like the different color to differentiate the posts by me and to me. But I have eye problems, and the green is a little light and vibrates. Could you make it a little darker shade?
Also, when I do the search I always like time to be the parameter, not relevance.
The one thing I would love someone to come up with is a search by date. So if we wanted to see the posts on say, 9/13/01, we could put the date in and get the articles posted on that date. That would be SO wonderful.
Thanks for everything you do.
I like but hyperlinks don't show up underlined or in blue/red on the ping page.
Additionally, I had embedded SQL (our data language of choice) and HTML in all the programs the site uses. On the one hand, it is both quick to create and run software built using these practices. And on the other, it is incredibly (nearly impossible) to maintain this jumbled mess. I decided it was far time to start moving SQL/HTML and assorted non-code from the code files and into their own little containers. When doing this, I essentially must rewrite much of the HTML. On top of this, moving the SQL out of the code and abstracting for maintenance' sake caused my entire data model to change, further necessitating the need to rewrite the HTML.
And of course when you get a programmer/tweaker type like me in the mood to rewrite HTML, inevitably things will change. I can't help myself. Heh.
And finally, most importantly, I'm trying to accomplish some very neat features. Barely any of those-- that which I really want to acccomplish here-- have been written as of yet, but I have been laying the groundwork for all of it, sneaking bits into each update. Very good stuff is around the corner.
Thank you, Quix,
Either your browser or your operating system’s locale is set to Korean, if that’s what that is. I have no idea, I’m just instructing your browser to display a date in the ‘default locale’.
What a pleasant surprise to check my pings this morning.
Would sure prefer to have the OPTION of the green vs not bolded. Would let those with headaches opt out but give those of us who greatly prefer the green to still have that option.
Thanks for all your efforts.
Might as well bore it out, too.
It’s somewhat different than IE, Firefox, etc. So get ready for a change. Doing a little research on their online help/support pages will be of help, also. It took me a couple hours to get a general hang of it, but now that I’ve done so, I like it.
Style sheets are pretty neat. Eventually we'll have some predefined choices, such as a "large fonts" version, different color schemes, different fonts, etc, and some type of way to mix and match-- and this would be a good place for something like the greening effect to be ungreened.
I may have to try that out and see how it looks.
As it stands now, I just sort of ignore the green since I’m not really interested in rereading what I wrote.
All in all the changes have been great, they just take a little getting used to.
I just noticed when doing a spell check on a post I just made to this thread, there’s no apparent way to add a word to my personal dictionary. There’s the drop-down list for questionable words, but no option to add. The word that came up was ‘online’.
Something to think about?
And Iran too, please?
Did i miss the post about the beta site throwing exceptions?
Thanks for your kind words.
Certainly, prayers for Vanya, as well. If you want something more focused, you can let me know how so by FREEPMAIL, if you wish.
Lord, may Vanya know you as ultimate authority; ultimate Love; ultimate sanity; ultimate kindness; ultimate thoughtfulness; ulimate peace; ultimate direction. May he delight to do your will, oh, Lord. May he learn your priorities as life, breath, his all in all.
May he learn confidence in you as better than life. May he learn the joy of your heart and the laughter of your peace. May he know deeper and deeper that RELATIONSHIP WITH YOU is more than the whole world. May he lay aside every distraction from your highest in his life. May he purpose to please you above his own comforts and pleasures.
May Vanya know because he knows because he knows because he knows that You Love him beyond words. May he have a healed heart, spirit, mind, body in every respect and may all his relationships be clear(ed), intimate in your love; according to your priorities and tasks for him day by day.
May any anger, frustrations, resentments be repented of, surrendered, released. May he walk in conscious and deep acceptance of all you lay on his daily plate as fitting growth, gift, mercy and blessings for him. May he rise in your Spirit by Grace, Mercy, your Blood and power into the place that you have for him day by day.
And, Lord may the above be true for his Brother, Ben, as well.
In Your Precious Name, Lord. Amen.
Beautiful work to this point (Kudos from a programmer who spent 25 years developing software)
This is a bug report:
In your beta software, looking at the pings, they angle down and to the right, eventually becoming illegible:

Safari Browser, Mac OSX 10.5
John, years back we were able to do HTML for scrolling something across the page and then it was taken away. Can that be put back in? Makes for interesting Profile pages.
Actually, I’d like a Today’s Toons link at the top with all the other such. That’s mostly what I search for.
Thanks for the heads up on that score. Tried dinking with it before and gave up in frustration. Maybe things are easier now.
Ok, think the cascade is fixed now. Had an open tag in certain configurations of the options.
I fixed the exceptions.
Thanks for your kind words and especially all your kind labors.
My feeble words you’re always welcome to.
Prayers ongoing for JimRob.
What a splendid prayer! Thank you! I don’t have time right now, but I’ll Personal Message you later about my dear Vanya’s struggles -— and his strengths.
Thanks, John. I really like the ‘Mark all as read’ along with the ‘New Pings’ / ‘All Pings’ tab.
The marquee tag? Evil! I may open up the HTML restrictions on profile pages... somewhat.
for this url, -http://beta.freerepublic.com/tag/*/index, im getting this
Sorry, an error occurred. The error has been logged.Still receiving this
I like it, good job!
Ok, it’s really fixed now. I think. Um. I hope.
It’s not hard, mostly it’s that things are placed differently than in the other browsers. I like the ‘Panel’ that aligns along the left side and has icons for bookmarks, contacts, notes, transfers (downloads), history, etc. Clicking on an icon will open that vertical panel. Clicking it again closes it, allowing for a more open window. Also, tabs can be tiled or cascaded nicely.
The only problem I have so far is the ‘Rewind’ icon on the main toolbar. Instead of going to the initial window for that tab (for example ‘Home’), it goes to the base page of the most recent website visited. You have to keep keying it to get back to square one.
Along with that same issue, I’ve noticed that when I open my Comcast mail in the same tab as my home page (Comcast), I can’t return to my home page using the ‘Rewind’ or ‘Back’ icons. I’ve gotten around that by opening my Comcast mail in a separate tab, then closing it out when finished.
It seems that as much as a browser may have going for it, there’s always something to complain about...
Your hoping it works worked. Nice.
Especially on Mircoslop foundations.
Yup. Good on Mozilla.
And yes marquee is most evil.
Thanks John. That would be great. Hope the marquee will be one of them though. Why is it "Evil"?
Any chance you can get a quote box as some forums have, eliminating the cut & pasting and <i) we have to do?
The Marquee and the blink tags are one of the most obnoxious tags ever approved by the W3C. May they parish a long and permanent stay in deprecation. Now if we can get the browsers to ignore them and show them as mere inline tags.
Like your maid - very lively. ;)
Use the Home key on your keyboard.
Most of us agree.
But midi.....now there's a thought!
I’d sure like to see a “softer” background color. The white background can make you go blind or at least see spots. Please get rid of the white background. Maybe beige or light blue with Navy text. Maybe even black with white text.
I saw a reference to Safari on this thread so decided to check it out, at least online. The Safari for Windows website had user reviews that rated it none too well, so I read a few. The biggest problem I saw was its use of system resources. Also, one reviewer noted Opera ran as fast with fewer resources.
I decided ‘thanks but no thanks’.
I like the white background, keep it - it makes reading text easier!
Oh, please no. I hate black websites.
You might try increasing your font size to see if that helps on a white background...
Thanks for all you do!
Is there any way to get all articles (and replies, and pings) to open up in a separate window? I have that set as a “preference”, however right now the ones that open in separate windows automatically are the main articles (not the sidebars, not the replies, not the pings).
I noticed the Greening. It is AWESOME. One thing though. The “new posts to you” red letters are always there even when there aren’t any new ones.
Font size is 14 now. Don’t need it bigger than that. :-)
Black background with white text is easiest on the eyes but a softer color than white would be acceptable. White is too harsh for anyone’s eyes. A monitor is, in essence, a flourescent light. It’s like staring into a flourescent light for hours. When I walk away from the computer I have to let my eyes “adjust” as if I have just come inside on a sunny day. Before you ask, yes, this room is well-lighted. :-)
