Who is on McCain's short list for VP?
Posted on 04/08/2008 11:13:51 AM PDT by Conservababe
I have done three searches and have found no discussion of this. Surely there have been some 'leaks' or 'trial balloons floated'.
TOPICS: News/Current Events

The only names that have surfaced recently per the “media” are Romney, Pawlenty and Sanford.
I wonder how the “pursits” are going to react if he actually selects a conservative. It is funny how the “purists” are so critical of Mccain but give “O the Racist” a free pass on everything.

Lieberman? I wouldn’t put it past him. Lieberman is the most decent Dem, though. Romney would fill the gap on Economic issues. But he is a Mormon and the Muslim supporters would go after him.

Sir, it doesn’t amtter who Juan McCain picks. And while Oboma sucks, Juan McCain blows.
If McCain moves a little more to the left or Clinton a little more to the right they can run on the same ticket.

What's a “purist?” I've only heard the term come into usage recently, and I'd like to know if this is a pejorative. If you mean, somebody who's a conservative that doesn't like McCain, then you're picking a very large fight, and McCain's already on thin ice with conservatives.

Think liberal. Think independent. Lieberman has to top the list right now. Should Hillary drop out, and not be chosen as Obama’s VP, she might top Lieberman. Liberal Republicans come next, and somewhere down the list moderates like Romney wait their chance.

I don’t think Rudy Giuliani will be found anywhere near a McCain administration. There’s a reason why he has completely vanished from the public eye since his so-called “presidential campaign” went down in flames.

Someone like Mark Sanford is what it would take to salvage the ticket, if only because it would put Sanford in a strong position for 2012.
Lieberman, Clinton, Richardson, Graham, Rice, Huck, Crist, or other mushy choice would make me more than happy to see the whole sad sack go down in flames.

Rice is on the list, but she’s too closely associated with Bush to get the nod.
She’ll probably be associated with McCain’s administration in some way though.
I’m betting on Pawlenty.

Think independent. Lieberman has to top the list right now. he recently said he is not interested in being on the GOP ticket... it's not him...
To: Conservababe
I was just listening to Rush. According to him Rice isn’t on the list. Last night Beck and one of his guests also insisted that Rice was not on the list. Rice, herself, denies she’s seeking the position, that it’s just a rumor.
Rush’s idea was that perhaps Obama or Hillary campaign could be behind the rumor...as a way of saying to the Dem superdelegates, see the Republicans will have a woman or the Republicans will have a black on the ticket. Depending on which point the rumor was trying to make would determine who floated the rumor, i.e. BO or HC.
I’ve heard Liberman say he doesn’t want, nor would take the VP spot, and I’ve heard Romney say that his being seen with McCain was no indication that he was seeking the VP spot on the ticket.

He disappeared because he is a private citizen. He is not running or positioning for anything. He knew this was his one shot at the WH and he took it, swing and a miss and moved on. He may run for governor of NY. Good for him. I’d like to see him get an appointment on McCain’s cabinet.

Fortunately Maddie is ineligible, not being born in the US. Of course McCain wasn’t either, but that’s different...his parents were citizens and he was born in a US possession.
To: Verginius Rufus
I was being sarcastic. But, McCain will probably let the Rats run all over him if elected. We need to concentrate on the House and Senate. Rush predicted the Rats will have 60 in the Senate.

For sure he is on the short list after helping McCain immensely in the Florida primary.
I wonder if Colin Powell or JC Watts are being considered.
