Rice Again Denies VP Aspirations

WASHINGTON (AP) - Condoleezza Rice has plans to head West after her time as secretary of State—not plans to be vice president.

She stressed Tuesday that she has no aspirations to join John McCain as his running mate on the Republican presidential ticket this fall. McCain, an Arizona senator, has wrapped up the GOP presidential nomination.

"Senator McCain is an extraordinary American, a really outstanding leader and obviously a great patriot," Rice said at a State Department news conference with the foreign ministers of Canada and Mexico. "That said, I am going back to Stanford, back to California, west of the Mississippi. I very much look forward to watching this campaign and voting as a voter."

Rice served as provost and taught as a professor at Stanford University. She said she'll be busy with her work at the State Department before returning to the campus.

"You just asked about trying to complete the denuclearization of North Korea," she told reporters. "I was (also) on the phone with Abu Mazen this morning about his meetings yesterday with Prime Minister Olmert," she added, referring to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

She said she also spoke with the new Pakistani foreign minister and U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon about Darfur and Kosovo.

"This is obviously a very busy agenda, and here I sit with my Mexican and Canadian counterparts on hemispheric issues. So, I have a lot of work to do and then I will happily go back to Stanford."

Bit, but, but Dan Senor, "Republican Strategist," stated in no uncertain terms that Dr. Rice was, "actively courting the Vice Presidential nomination," further saying that Rice has, "has been actively, actually in recent weeks, campaigning for this."

Strategist: Rice eyeing VP spot on ticket

Hmmm... maybe he knows something she doesn't :)

Yes, yes yes!!! I think she’d be great...Her story is the most incredibly uplifting as anything I’ve ever heard. It surpassess Clarence Thomas...

All Americans need to know the story...If McCain picks some other no name...then I’m going to kill myself...He should pick Condi...

I agree, Condi would be an excellent Veep. However, be prepared for a deluge of anti-Condi posts.

Condi isn't very well liked on FR. Pitty.

Rice is pro-choice, pro-affirmative action, and pro-gun control. She is still part of the present Bush administration of which many voters throughout the U.S. don’t like. Many people also question what she has and hasn’t done during her entire duration in the Bush administration. How exactly does RINO Rice possibly being McCain’s final VP choice also help in getting the conservative vote? It also may not matter who McCain does eventually pick to be his VP because it doesn’t change the fact that McCain is still a socialist who has upset too many conservatives on too many issues for too many years.

I think Condi Rice was well liked on FR before her enthusiastic support for “Kosovo” and “Palestine,” her comments about race, and her “mildly” pro-murder stance on abortion.

Probably because the trial balloon floated last week sank like a lead balloon.

I think that McCain's VP will very likely be President, and I'm going to vote accordingly. Other people apparently think so, too. Who knows, McCain might be a bull and keep his head for four or even eight years. But I doubt it.

Maybe we'll be seeing more trial balloons.

How do you figure that?

Yes, it is not wothout cause that she is not held in high esteem.

I think once you learn about her, you have to be proud of her and that she’s made it on her own in this land of ours. Any conservatives against her are tone deaf. FAct is, McCain has GOT to pick someone with experience and can stand up to the media. I don’t think Condi has any skeletons in her closet. She’ll pass all scrutiny...This is important.

BTW, who is well liked on FR these days? I get the feeling that FRs are getting cranky and senile...They’d rather see Hlllary or Obama in there?

I doubt that anyone short of Duncan Hunter would appease this crowd.
