9 April 2008 [For Immediate Release]
Tortured monk released in unstable mental condition
Around fifteen Tibetan monks today defiantly briefed a group of foreign media personnel on a government managed tour currently in Sangchu County (Ch: Xiahe) in Gansu Province.
The monks revealed the grave situation in the area and also delivered a clear cut message to the media group, concerning human rights abuses by the authorities in the area. According to a report by Reuters today (Protesting monks storm media tour in western China, By Lucy Hornby), "They said eight monks were still being held by authorities, but did not specify if they were from Labrang or elsewhere " TCHRD had earlier received confirmed names of seven monks arrested from Labrang Monastery in Sangchu County, Kanlho "TAP", Gansu, on 1 April 2008. The arrestees are: 1) Gendun Gyatso, 30 yrs, 2) Gyurmey, 40 yrs, 3) Gelek Gyurmey, 30 yrs, 4) Sangay, 30 yrs, 5) Samten, 32 yrs, 6) Yonten, 34yrs, and 7) Thabkhey, 30 yrs.
It is learned that Thabkhey who was released after several days' detention is currently mentally unstable with bruise marks from severe beatings all over his body. It clearly indicates that the monks were brutally tortured in police custody. It is highly probable that the other monks are still in detention and the authorities have released Thabkhey in order to shun responsibility for his current condition. It is regular practice by prison authorities in Chinese administered prisons in Tibet to release Tibetan detainees and prisoners in near death or unstable conditions.
TCHRD calls upon the Chinese authorities to stop torture and inhumane treatment of the peaceful Tibetan protestors who exercised their fundamental human rights of freedom of expression enshrined in the international laws and the constitution of the People's Republic of China.
Ping!
And yet, in other news, the Dalai Lama supports Communism and claims to be a “Marxist Monk.”
I thought that he was a Nazi. That’s what the ChiComs said last week...
But, torture is illegal, according to international laws!..........
At least he wasn’t warerboarded.
whoops.....whoops......
We consider the Muslims in Bosnia worthy of automony and self-determination, but withhold the recognition of that right from the Tibetan People.
Jorge El Segundo still cravenly insists he will attend the Olympic Games, just as his equally craven father conducted business as usual with his Red Chinese financial overlords after the massacre in Tienemen Square.
It seems there is no depth to which the Bushes are incapable of sinking if it means more money for their globalist buddies.
However, his problematic view should not be a reason to ignore sufferings of Tibetans under brutal Chinese regime.
China devils
Please, don’t get me wrong, I am in no way defending China or making light of the situation. Yes, Tibetans are suffering. Yes, they are under a brutal Chinese regime. But, that’s my point. In all of this, the Dalai Lama can take the time to comment on the benefits of Marxism and the deficiencies of Capitalism. It’s amazing.
Communist China is hurting Tibetans, not capitalism.
Exactly my first thought. The Dalai Lama believes Marxism is the most moral system. So apparently, Mao is good guy is was only misunderstood when his Marxist policies led to the starvation death of many millions in what is thought to be the largest famine in human history. Yeah, that Marxism.
Or perhaps the Dalai Lama should ask those Falun Gong people how much they like Marxism. I am simply astounded. The Dalai Lama's support for Marxism would be like Jewish support for more gas chambers. That this guy doesn't get this fundamental point is a real eye opener.
Maybe if the monks would just give the Chinese communists a little more land, and stop resisting they would have peace. I’m told this would work for Israel, maybe the monks should demonstrate for us how well surrender works for creating “Peace”.
If you take that in the context of being in a monastic institution all his life it makes sense. Like Thomas Merton said, to paraphrase “Communism is a perfect system for a monastery. It doesn’t work in the real world though.”
Well put. If he is going to be taken at his word about Marxist economics he should be taken at his word when he says "I am just a simple monk." He isn't kidding when he says that.
I have a little different view of it. See #17 and #18.
