Posted on 04/10/2008 8:06:37 AM PDT by woollyone
MIAMI -- Officers from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives barged into a South Florida home Wednesday only to discover they had the wrong address.
The ATF agents were supposed to conduct a raid at a home in the 2600 block of Northwest 49th Terrace in northwest Miami-Dade County, but they were off by one block. They entered a house on Northwest 49th Street instead.
A mother and her 2-year-old boy were among the innocent people inside the home when the agents came in
What a wonderful America we've become.
...to the roofer
Which mapping software do they use? (I want the other one!)
Too much Alcohol and Tobacco?
PLEEEEEASE let this mean the woman kicked the AGENTS out before dumping them into the garbage.
A parting gift for your 2 yr old, ma'am.
Be sure to FReep the comments section on that story!!!!
Holy cow, it says they left their TEAR GAS cans in the lady’s house??? Talk about callous disregard for someone’s safety. Just remember that your tax dollars are at work supporting these goon squads.
I am an advocate for law enforcement,Bother is an asst. Police chief, several nephews are policemen. But, If you are going to bust a residence for something shouldn’t some one who has actually been to that house be along for the ride? Just in case.
ethanol powered informants
Burn All Toddlers up to their BullS*** again I see
Deplorable that this happens at all in this day and age. Wrong address my a$$. More like total incompetence.
Any dogs get shot?
It’s for ossifer saftey doncha know!
This just in...
...they did NOT shoot the dog!
...because there wasn’t a dog at home at the time.
This agent is an arrogant idiot. He needs to find another job ...
Was it Solzhenitsyn who wondered how different Russia would have been if KGB/GRU agents stopped returning from such activities?
Yes, I cheered when the ATF hauled their fat-asses down that long road away from the Waco complex.
“Mrs. Lincoln, your husband was in the wrong place.” - John Wilkes Booth.
And that statement coming from your screen name means a lot!
A.T.F.F.U.A. (new acronym)
Translation: Alcohol Tobbacco & Firearms Flubbed Up Again
I'm sure they will all get a severe talking-to. That'll straighten them out.
This article is too short to properly cover the subject, & it seems a little strange. The cops left tear gas canisters in the house? Were they live or spent? She kicked the canisters out the door before putting them in the garbage? There is something fishy about this reporting! As for the phrase “Ma’am, you were in the wrong place.”, the cop was more likely joking than be that stupid - I hope!
I will say this: That woman better be real glad she was not smoking a cigarette when the ATF came in!
curious?? Cant she file a criminal complaint for Breaking and Entering,Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Using a Firearm during the commission of a crime, and so on.... thats exactly what would happen if you or I did this. Considering their Warrant had a different AQddress on it , she would be =on the right side of the law. Every one of these Jack Booted thugs should rot in Jail for a long time, and of course in General Population.
Hey, at least they had the restraint not to taze (or shoot) both the mother and her toddler for being “in the wrong place.”
Some police forces are becoming so militarized - they assault suburban homes like they were fortified terrorist bases. Soon they’ll be tossing flash-bangs in the windows before they charge in.
My question is if they’re going to act like this, at what point do they become a true military force and fall under posse comitatus restrictions?
Alcohol, tobacco and firearms should be a convenience store not a government agency of jack booted thugs.
On the bright side, they didn’t burn the house down with her and all the children inside.
Federal cops for anything other than chasing foreign spies and protecting the border is a bad, bad idea.
Indeed, federal laws for anything other than the basics on those issues is a bad, bad idea.
how about A.T.F.F.U.B.A.R.A.?
M/D may have been apart of this raid.
...often not the brightest twinkle-bulbs on the tree.
But, you’re right, the article is unusually short.
Another odd thing is that comments are allowed to be posted.
The Sun Slantin’-All & the Miami Herald didn’t even report the story at all (that I could find this AM).
Seems to be a deliberate silence about the whole affair.
Hey if it wasn’t on the 6 O’Clock news...it never happened!
Posse Comitatus went bye-bye last year when Bush signed a budget bill with a “small” rider that repealed it.
You say you want a revolution, welllll you know....
The problem is, some of them are. Others are fortified drug storage and distribution facilities manned by really bad guys with big guns. Others are mistakes like this one.
So it's easy to criticize--I've done my share of criticizing ATF. But how do you avoid this? Do you send officers into unknown situations without scary looking flak jackets and helmets? Do you give bad guys 30 seconds warning to pick up their guns? Do you politely request permission to enter?
The problem is the ongoing decline and fall of Western Civilization. My brother in law is a cop. In today's world, every encounter with a citizen is scary. It's hard to stay alive and not be uber-cautious because the country is full of psychopaths with RPG's. If you're a cop, you err on the side of overwhelming force and pray you don't make mistakes.
"And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand? After all, you knew ahead of time that those bluecaps were out at night for no good purpose. And you could be sure ahead of time that you'd be cracking the skull of a cutthroat. Or what about the Black Maria sitting out there on the street with one lonely chauffeur? What if it had been driven off or its tires spiked? The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt!"
“He needs to find another job ... “
He will be promoted to work with Lon Horiuchi.
He’s working for the one enterprise that would hire him. The only thing left for him is to become a politician.
Thugs with a badge, who murdered the people at Waco. Must be more of those Klintoon era hirees.
Just The Facts,
Got a reference for that?
It’s Springtime, and the daisies need to be pushed up.
Maybe he could get a job doing that.
The agents must be arrested, tried, and put in jail. They broke into the home of an innocent person without a search warrant. Apologies don’t count.
If the innocent person had exercised her right to defend herself and her family against an unjust agressor, and used deadly force, the highly trained agents would have cut her in two with bullets, and killed the children as well.
There is no excuse. There can be no apology. Strong, unthinking armed men protected by body armor threatened the life of an innocent person.
“So it’s easy to criticize—I’ve done my share of criticizing ATF. But how do you avoid this? “
Well, if it takes months of investigations, tracking down leads, questioning informants, filling out forms for a warrant, and getting a judge to sign it....
I’d say the way to avoid it, is to get the address correct.
Guess they did such a good job with alcohol, tobacco and firearms they had to expand their repertoire. Maybe tomorrow it will include chemical pesticides and doggie poo.
When their paycheck comes from the Feds.
Wait for the contingent of JBT-lovers here to show up and defend these idiots.
The ATF is not only a rogue agency, its an utterly useless one.
Why do we need a law enforcement agency for three LEGAL commodities?
The Stasi, KGB, Kempei Tai, and Sicherheitendienst are alive and well here in the United States.
“The agents left tear gas cans in the house”
Which means the entered using those tear gas canisters...I would bet they destroyed the doors as well as broke half the windows in the home.
Probably will walk across the stage and receive his performance cash incentive check due to outstanding duty performance.
Lon Horuchi a real role model for a terrorist/murderer.
Just The Facts,
That callous disregard started before WACO with those imbeciles with badges.
