South Africas deputy security minister has told police how to tackle rampant crime in their cities: kill the bastards, and do not worry about regulations.
You must kill the bastards if they threaten you or the community, Susan Shabangu, told a local police forum in Pretoria.
I want to assure the police station commissioners and policemen and women that they have permission to kill these criminals.
You must not worry about the regulations. That is my responsibility. Your responsibility is to serve and protect, she added.
I wont tolerate any pathetic excuses for you not being able to deal with crime. You have been given guns, now use them. I want no warning shots. You have one shot and it must be a kill shot.
South Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world, with more than 19,000 people murdered last year - more than 50 a day - in a population of 46 million, giving it a murder rate 32 times higher than that of the UK.
Thabo Mbekis ANC government has long been accused of failing to tackle crime, but the partys populist new leader Jacob Zuma has called it a national emergency and said there should be a debate on re-introducing the death penalty.
Miss Shabangu told her audience: If criminals dare to threaten the police or the livelihood or lives of innocent men, women and children, they must be killed. End of story.
"The constitution says criminals must be kept safe, but I say no, no, no!
Many South Africans have enthused about her comments.
Hooray... finally, wrote one contributor on a newspaper website.
This should be the headlines on every national newspaper. Hopefully it will make those bastards think twice.
Another added: Finally someone has balls to say this. Congratulations minister!

Police were told to fire 'kill shots'
That should put a dent in violent crime. Not only will the thugs be taken out, it’ll give the rest of them something to think about when they see they buddies picked off one by one.
It could work.
Until the politicians realize it's an easy way to rid themselves of any dissenters.
Stalin would had agreed with that statement.
Or one criminal group uses it as a way to wage war against rival criminal groups and using the police as a tool.
This isnt a true crime environment, this is a war zone. In war zones one shoots to kill and asks questions later.
Unless the war is run by Pentagon bigwigs.
If it wasn’t for the rules of engagement, the war in Iraq would had ended five years ago.

They sure are in my neck of the woods.

Police in South Africa have to deal with more than 50 murders every day

Um, wasn't this the policy in South Africa when the whites ran the place?
I am detecting a double standard here, but I can already feel Barack Obama's icy glare on me for bringing this up.
Cool poster. Stalin would have killed a percentage of the population, guilty or innocent, just to keep them watching their back.
South Africa was in British hands in early 20th Century. Of course, self-defense was not encouraged. Especially after the nasty Boer Wars.
