Pelosi's War
IBD ^ | April 10, 2008

Posted on 04/10/2008 4:28:14 PM PDT by Kaslin

Congress: The cowardly start more wars than the courageous. Nancy Pelosi's craven altering of House rules to kill off Colombia's trade pact brings that danger to the Andes. If war breaks out, her name will be on it.

April 10 may end up as a date which will live in infamy. The Speaker of the House not only refused to step forward and be counted on approving the vital Colombia free-trade agreement, she ran away from letting anyone else vote on it.

After President Bush submitted the pact to a vote under fast-track rules, she changed them to ensure it wouldn't go anywhere anytime soon. By a 224-195 House vote, the voting timeline rule on trade pacts was changed from 90 days to whenever. Pelosi now can hold up Colombia's treaty however long her caprice dictates.

"The message Democrats sent today," a bitter Bush warned after Thursday's vote, "is that no matter how steadfastly you stand with us, we will turn our backs on you when it is politically convenient."

Pelosi's move leaves Colombia, an ally, in limbo and uncertainty. She may think her clever maneuver was done in a vacuum, but it wasn't. In Venezuela's capital of Caracas, where Hugo Chavez holds forth, and in the jungles of Colombia, where drug terrorists hide out, Pelosi's move was watched closely.

Indeed, within hours of the vote, Latin American media already were calling Pelosi's maneuver the "Chavez Rule."

Nancy Pelosi....The worst Speaker of the House of all times

Without a doubt you are correct. To alienate a strong ally in our own hemisphere is the height of stupidity.

She is willing to risk war in South America to appease unions and leftists, it's pathetic.

Nancy Pelosi is a craven lickspittle, totally absent of any redeemable human qualities.

Until our country brings justice to our own traitors, such as Pelosi, we will never win back our freedoms and we will continue to slide into an abyss.

I hope to live long enough to see justice, and our country return to her roots, but I doubt that I will.

God better get busy, we’re not doing so well on our own.

The Pelosicrats disgust me, but the article is not well written. The author is self-contradictory, but claiming that the free trade agreement would barely affect anything except making it slightly easier to sell US goods in Colombia, then claiming that the agreement is of vast importance to improving Colombia’s economy in rivalry with Venezuela.

I do think the agreement is of considerable symbolic importance, but the case for saving Colombia’s economy and thus averting war has not really been made.

Still, anything that pumps up Chavez and appears to weaken his main regional rival is a bad thing, and the Pelosicrats are always happy to help our nation’s enemies.

All her promises have been lies. She has destroyed the house and is so blinded by hate(it’s Bush’s fault)that she is willing to sacrifice our future. “Hey Nancy, don’t take care of my Grand children. I want a future for them that America is what the soldiers of Bastonge fought for. I know you don’t! You show it everyday you speak into a microphone. God, you are a horrible person.”

Not sure what you mean by contradictory. Why would making it easier for the Colombians to buy heavy machinery from the U.S. fail to have an impact on the Colombian economy?

A free-trade pact with Colombia would just be seen as another victory (of his many) by Bush in his "lame duck" second term, and Pelosi and the democrats just can't allow another Bush victory.

Besides, there's an election coming up and the democrats need to make sure that the union voters notice how the democrats are "protecting" their jobs.

And since the primary imports from Colombia are oil and coffee, while the primary exports to Colombia are electronics, heavy machinery, vehilces and chemicals, we have nothing to gain economically from blocking trade with Colombia.

It’s a pure sell out to the labor union ideologues.

Well it all depends upon the magnitude of the changes in economic transactions between the two economies - but the editorial tries to say there will hardly be any change so it doesn’t cost anyone. It seems that the case should be made that there are some critical areas of Colombia’s economy that will be helped by this pact without harming the USA, but that case is not even hinted at in this editorial.

This is really an act of treason because it directly weakens the U. S., and subverts democratic Columbia.

It is nothing but a kiss and embrace of tyrants like Chavez who seek to subvert Columbia and control all of South America - and through Marxism/Leninism do the same to all of North America.

It is entirely in keeping with this witch’s visit in 2007 to Syria.

Pelosi went to see Chavez, the Dahli Lama and others without being sent...she is traitor...and I am asking God to remove that moron from her position. There has to be at least one sane democrat who could do a better job.
She wants Pres Bush to boycott the Opening Event of the Olympics in China, after she insulted them by going to Tibet and sided with Dahli Lama. This woman is a threat to world.
What is not being remembered is that Bush’s parents were Consulants or Ambassadors to China years ago, and lived there...it would be an insult for their son not to attend and the dems know that. Whatever is McCains objection I don’t know, just tired I guess.

NOTE: I disagree as the president does with China’s human rights positions, however the olympics should not be politicized. Already too many threats of violence and terrorism...some things should be neutral and exempt from the rest of problems in world. It is through those things that we build our relationships that may bring change.
Our reputation as a nation is destroyed by big mouth idiots like Gore, Pelosi and Michael Moore, who insist on going overseas spewing nonsense. I hear and read that from many who live abroad. McCain has better manners if nothing else, and they can give him some ginko balboa for his memory...LOL

The bill that is being held up affects us in Columbia, as the US pays higher tariffs/taxes on imports coming from Columber. The bill would allow us to tax/tariff on our exports going into Columbia, and balance/offset those charges. This disrupts free trade balance, and causes places like Venezuela to undercut US and take our tax income and product sales from Columbia, which is evil act by dems who were the proponents of NAFTA in first place, as it was singed by Bill Clinton. Pelosi is friends with Chavez, and that is shown by her unapproved visit to Chavez last year.
The gas tax the dems want to put on gas for us to buy, will keep Chavez from having to pay tariffs on oil barrels we buy from Venezuela...NOW do you understand Pelosi the traitor?

I just saw on Oreilly Factor that George Soros (billionaire) democrat leftist nutcase met last night with Brock (evil reputation destroyer) and NBC executive??? to plan a “swiftboat” type of attack against McCain in regular election, once dem nominee is selected. They plan to use Soros backed moveon.org and media matters to collect milliions to do tv ads to destroy McCain and Republicans ability to be elected.

This needs to be posted, but I don’t usually post, so pass it on to those who can...Oreilly will be back on later tonight, or if you are further west later...I am east coast. Let’s figure out how to combat this thing. I am praying that God takes care of Soros and Pelosi before election....join in agreement with me people! ANY SUGGESTIONS? We are a mighty force on FreeRepublic, and we need to find out all we can on the dem nominee and get to work. The best defense is a great offense!!

Considering that her actions definitely demonstrate her allegiance to F.A.R.C. (the terrorist operation in Columbia) that would certainly justify that government doing something about her.

Lord only knows what that might be but there will be something.

Most folks will not like it.

Chile's government once did something similar with the guy who was going to run the Commie gulag once they took over under Allende.

Odds are good the Columbia government will take action against her in a third-country though ~

As Speaker of the House the Nancy woman has the liberty of totally ignoring the President. On the other hand as a quite obvious F.A.R.C. agent she’s is yet a different sort of risk and probably ought to be picked up by “W” and held somewhere.

Yes, she was messing with Turkey, Syria and now Colombia. I realize the President has no control over her as Speaker of the House but most Speakers have the intelligence to leave foreign relations to the President, as it’s supposed to be. She’s strongly lacking in the brain department.

She outclasses Senator Rockefeller in this sort of stupidity.

I agree it is significant - my point was that I don’t think the editorial writer explained the issues well enough ....could have made the case better.... and made it seem as though the economic impact was minor.... In any case, when leftist charlatans like the Pelosicrats are allowed to trash our allies and give aid & comfort to our enemies, that is the 1st cousin of treason...... even if it would not get prosecuted.

The American people already have enough information regarding Barack Obama and more than enough regarding Hillary Clinton to completely reject them—it simply remains to be seen whether any of that information MATTERS to the people.

Alternatively, why should anyone on the Right lift their finger to help McCain? The only thing he has ever done with his finger is shove it in our eyes.

No matter how it comes out between now and November, the next presidency will be a massive failure. The thing to work on is 2012, and to make sure we are galvanized around one rock solid conservative for that election (not bickering over a half-dozen possibilities).

Let O’Reilly fret over whether Mack or Meyer is elected this year.
