Congressional Democrats: The Other Insurgents

There must have been times when Gen. David Petraeus and Ambassador Ryan Crocker thought they were back in embattled Sadr City when they faced Democrats on Capitol Hill this week -- no Iraqi insurgents or al Sadr militiamen could have been more hostile.

No wonder. The goals of the Democrats and both al Qaeda and al Sadr insurgents are the same: the defeat of the United States in the war in Iraq.

He could have added that his former party had reversed Gen. Douglas McArthur's declaration that there is no substitute for victory to read, "There is no substitute for your country's defeat when you want to win elections."

Although targeted from the outset, both Petraeus and Crocker managed manfully to withstand the often nasty implications inherent in the Democrats' questioning. Petraeus even treated Mrs. Clinton as if she were a lady, despite the fact that the last time he came to the Hill to talk about the situation in Iraq she all but called him a liar before his appearance.

Frankly, I don't know how he sat there being so respectful of these people, when they are doing everything in their power to undermine what he's doing. They are also giving hope, not to our troops, but to the enemy which is trying to kill them.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller helped to set the tone for his Democratic colleagues before the hearings when he accused his colleague, war hero Sen. John McCain, of what amounts to a war crime saying, "McCain was a fighter pilot who dropped laser-guided missiles from 35,000 feet. He was long gone when they hit. What happened when they [the missiles] get to the ground? He doesn't know. You have to care about the lives of people. McCain never gets into those issues."

Sen. Rockefeller was forced to apologize to McCain. He didn't explain how he, as chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, did not know that when John McCain was flying missions over North Vietnam there were no such things as laser guided missiles.

If we had listened to the defeatist Democrats there wouldn't be 175,000 trained Iraqi soldiers, 379,000 trained Iraqi police, 90,000 trained Sons of Iraq, and you wouldn't have Maliki, a Shia leader, sending his military into Basra to fight Shia militias.

Instead, al Sadr would be running Iraq with the help of Iran, and bin Laden would be using Iraq as a training base for al Qaeda.

If the Republicans had a spine, they would ask for Sen. Jay Rockefeller's resignation for impuning every military airman. Every bomber pilot in every war drops their ordinance on the enemy, and are not there to see the explosion; it's the nature of air warfare. To say what he said is not only ignorant, but harmful to every soldier. And this clown is on the Armed Services Committee?

He should be out of the Senate, and no where near a government job, including dog catcher.

Sens. Clinton and Obama should ask for his censure! And so should Sen McCain!

The travesty of liberalism is that it can loudly proclaim it is intellectual and morally grounded without ever examining ethical implications or holding a complex thought.
Liberalism is visceral and populist, couched in the language of platitudes. Its politics, however, are from the gutter, vicious and deceitful.
In the final analysis liberalism today is morally and intellectually depraved.

This insurgency now requires a “domestic surge” to stamp it out.

They could also add that it was A Democrat administration that was running the War from Washington ,they were providing the Targets that would be hit and more tragically
the ones that would NOT be hit ,including SAM missle sights being built by Russian advisors . That is they could not be targeted while they were being constructed ,only after they were fully operational. The Pilots that Rockefeller impunes KNEW THIS AT THE TIME yet everyday they flew missions anyway knowing these sites would be killing them shortly

It is my recollection that in the raids on Hanoi during the Vietnam War the U. S. pilots of fighter-bombers usually did see - or their fellow pilots did see - the bombs strike the targets.

This was simply because the U. S. pilots had to fly precision raids at low altitudes. They were certainly low enough to see the ground-to-air missiles, looking like a telephone pole, come up at them - which the pilots had to manually avoid in a matter of seconds.

The U. S. pilots, such as McCain, were dedicated professionals who took immense risk to ensure that no collateral damage resulted from a strike on a designated target - such as the Hanoi powerhouse.

The pilots were so restricted in targets - this was the Johnson Administration - that their probable flight paths were known prior to the raids. NV antiaircraft guns and missiles were zeroed in on these flight paths at given altitudes.

Remember that Hanoi Jane Fonda and other American-hating colleagues, and U.S. and communist media reps., were in Hanoi at the time of the raids - e. g., the photo of Hanoi Jane sitting on the seat of antiaircraft gun and aiming for American planes.

Any civilian casualties would have been triumphed to the world.

For Rockefeller, Chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, not to know all this, including the glaring fact that laser-guided bombs were not available at this time, is abominable.

It indicates the total lack of national security knowledge in present-day Democrats. Shameful and frightening to the nth degree.

Agreed. Sadly, most Americans who voted in this Congress are now looking for bailouts. They will keep the Rats in the House in McCain’s term as well. Even if McCain attempts to do what is right, it will be another lame duck Presidency. By 2012, facing depression and aggression abroad, we will probably elect Patriots instead of glorified constituent networks.

"The goals of the Democrats and both al Qaeda and al Sadr insurgents are the same: the defeat of the United States in the war in Iraq."

David Horowitz wrote a book about that very subject in 2004. It is titled Unholy Alliance, Radical Islam and the American Left

Horowitz applied his tremendous intellect as well as his experience with the left to explain in detail what we all know at FR. A great read.

A domestic surge a la the Minutemen, the Kentucky brigade, the rough riders and a host of others who banned together as free men to protect this nation from the incursions of a host of enemies.
Libeerals have one thing right. Conservatism is their enemy. What they have not figured out is that we will destroy them as enemies of the republic.
