Obama on small-town PA: Clinging religion, guns, xenophobia
Politco ^ | April 11, 2008 | Ben Smith

Posted on 04/11/2008 1:11:38 PM PDT by rocksblues

Mayhill Fowler has more from Obama's remarks at a San Francisco fundraiser Sunday, and they include an attempt to explain the resentment in small-town Pennsylvania that won't be appreciated by some of the people whose votes Obama's seeking:

You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them...And they fell through the Clinton Administration, and the Bush Administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.

That's pretty broad list of things to explain with job loss.

Dems ignore “flyover” country at their own peril.

Given that Osama is hostile to religion (except Islam), hostile to gun ownership, and pretty much for open-border anarchy, he's gonna somehow "unite" these Americans?

I didn't think so....

This guy thinks he is going to bring America together. Listening to him speak, there is a long long way to go. He surely does not think there is much good with America.

Well of course, small-town Americans are just too stupid to understand what well-educated city-dwelling liberals get: Obama Messiah. They cling to religion, which all well-educated city-dwelling liberals know is just “the opiate for the masses.” Karl Marx said so, now Obama says so.

Seems like he’s counting on conservatives (ie, “hicks”) as being too pissed off at the GOP to vote for McLame under any circumstances, so he’ll play divisive politics and step on those unsophisticated rural folk in order to whip the high and mighty elitist liberals into voting for someone who will separate the unwashed masses from their guns, religion, and national sovereignty.

They think along with the MSM that big city voters shall over come.

I cannot wait for the results in November.

Obama 35%. McCain 54%.

Classic elite snobbery!! It's so perfect, it's almost a parody.

My dad made millions owning a small business he started all on his own. Is now about to make more money on a small business idea that he and another small town genious created. They both cling to God and their guns, but are smarter than obama any day!

Imagine a racist black nationalist telling us that WE’RE the ones who don’t like people that are not like us.

Just Damn.

Darn right I'm going to clings to my guns. Especially once these fools get elected.

I think, for that matter, that I'll cling to my religeon, too. It isn't that I don't have a job, it's, well... I guess I just really like my guns. Also my religeon. I think Jesus is swell. Don't leave life without him.

And all those people that are different from me? It seems like everybody is different from me. I try to hate all of them, but it's just so much work. Besides, my God tells me to love them.

Oh well.

They cling to guns because they are Americans.

They cling to religion because they are Americans.

Obama is an idiot.
