THE story of a US soldier who sacrificed his life for his comrades has moved US President George W. Bush to tears. When a grenade bounced off his chest and fell to the floor near his fellow troops, Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Monsoor acted out of instinct. His actions didn't stem from a lack of training. His instant reaction was to protect his comrades. PO Monsoor was one of the US military's most highly trained combatants, a navy SEAL. The navy said he committed a selfless act by jumping on the grenade and taking the full force of the blast. An emotional Mr Bush presented PO Monsoor's parents with a posthumous Medal of Honour for their son at a White House ceremony yesterday. Mr Bush quoted one of the SEALs saved by PO Monsoor in 2006 as saying, "Mikey looked death in the face that day and said, 'You cannot take my brothers. I will go in their stead'." PO Monsoor is the first SEAL to receive the Medal of Honour for actions in Iraq.

bump
as liberals celebrate the increasing body count, our President mourns
Saw what you want about him but George Bush loves our servicemen and women and is not shy from showing it. He is a man’s man.
Amen!!
Ditto that,
Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Jay Rockefeller. Need I say more ?
That’s GREAT!!!!!
Jay Rockefeller is an elitist dirtball.
Where do they find these fine men??
ping
The causal relationship between the necessity of oil and the treasure we've lost in Iraq and Afghanistan has been missed by this President (and Congress and the House of Lords, i.e. the Senate).
I apologize for straying off-topic.
Amen, and again, Amen.
Contrast this with HRC’s fake crying over her own plight.
Bump
The liberals have always loathed our military and it’s difficult for them to muster up a tear for our brave soldiers.
Hillary cries whenever she realizes that she may not get her coronation.
Couldn’t watch that....can’t watch her. If something went horribly wrong and she became President I’d have to turn off my TV for the duration.
“Where do they find these fine men??”
I recall in a War Ethics class a few years back, a guest speaker (retired Army General) posing the same question. We were discussing a video of American troops in Iraq shooting at a van that had failed to stop at a roadblock.
The van caught fire and it was clear that those inside were trapped. So the troops stopped shooting and rushed to save the occupants, showing no regard for who was inside or their intentions.
Despite the media, the public schools and popular culture, America is somehow still turning out fine young people indeed.
He was born to an Arab American father who also served this country. I wish some at this site would think of this young man and realize how painful their slurs can be.
These men find the SEALS/DELTA/SF/RGR RGT/CCTs etc.
They were big men before they joined this community. Much of their training just filters them out, the ones who are nothing but talk, and those who actually can walk the walk. Selfless, professional, type A, smart, athletic, squeaky clean, hyper-dedicated to their unit and country these guys are usually great people whom employers seek not only in the defense sector. Most of these guys seek out the SEALS, since usually they had long term better paying opportunities open to them elsewhere; jobs where they could make more and not risk their lives. You're dealing with people that “seek out” this life. -IMHO
I know, it is our soldiers way.
The ref was to my pings, a code phrase if you will that this is something special.
I understand the ref.
Thank you for the story, I will add to my memory.
Another thought,
i hope that I would have courage to do as this fine man did.
You don't know what you're talking about and are so wrong..... I'm also the son of a hyphenated American... and the only thing I ever considered myself was Texan first, American next.
My father would have put his fist in someone's mouth for calling him a Mexican-anything....
People have asked in the past "where are your people from"... I say San Antonio, Texas.
So if you ask the "Arab" -American what he considers himself and he says "Arab"..... well then I've got no use for him.
This fine, brave American man wasn't an Arab.... he was an American in every single sense of the word and we are all less fortunate because of his passing. Our country could use a couple of hundred thousand more men with the honor, bravery and patriotism he had.
I doubt he ever thought of his "Arab" heritage, but I wouldn't know and we can't ask him.
I hope that I never slur one who is defending this country. If ever I slur someone, I would hope that I am corrected by another on this board.
I will also comment when I believe someone is slurring(is that a word or correct spelling) someone defending this country.
thank you for your thoughts
Uh, that would be dead SAILOR.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael Monsoor. RIP and thank you for your service.
I was alerting my pings to this story.
if I denigrated these fine young men, twas not my intent.
My intent was to alert the ping recipient to a article of interest.
Where do they find these find these young men?? is a code that this is an article that bears reading.
No disrespect intended, only that this article or story needs reading.
I only hope that if I am ever in this position that I am same situation that I have the courage to do what this young man did.
When I am referring to young man , I referring to him from the utmost respect.
I read it that Bush has compassion, let the libs do what they want.
Big bump
Damn Straight
our local news stations all edited the tears part...no surprise, you can tell when tears are real or not...if I was skilled enough I’d stitch the Clinton tears video drop with the Bush one and see which seems genuine
I'm not attacking you in any way. I was merely expanding on your thoughts. You gave me an opportunity to talk about something I enjoy, our armed forces. Don't take it in any negative way!
Sorry for maybe having appeared like I was correcting you, that wasn't the intent. You just gave me an open door to throw in my five cents.
Yes,the idiot press often thinks that “soldier” can refer to anyone in the military. No - if you aren’t in the Army, you are not a soldier!
1000 liberals could not equal this one brave, selfless soldier. God grant him rest and his family, peace.
Do you have the video of this?
“Where do they find these fine men??”
On the front lines, or in the hospital, with limbs missing.
On another thread today, DEAN KAMEN was presenting a new biotech replacement limb for soldiers that the Military personally asked him to design.
He went on to explain about talking to the injured soldiers in the hospital. Some soldiers were missing an entire arm.
Some were missing both.
He was talking to a guy who seemed so happy. He was happy because he had only one arm missing, but had one arm left.
“and then”, Kamen said, “he shoved himself back from the table with his only arm, and I saw that he had no legs.”
Good find. Thanks! ;-)
That was great. Thanks.
Here is a video of the story I related earlier:

“i hope that I would have courage to do as this fine man did.”
And I pray it never comes to that.
Yes he is. amen. He is America’s wonderful President! So sad he has been trashed unendingly - those Americans who have not seen him in action every day as we have here - are the poorer for it.
God bless you, President Bush!
And God bless this brave serviceman - the best America has to offer!
Nailbiter and some other FReepers use this phrase as a ping to let each other know of particular post about a heroic service member.
I believe that Reagan asked the question while visiting Point du Hoc, for the 40th anniversary of DDay
Thx I will watch later
