The Prime Minister of Niger reported to the U.S. State Department in early 2002 that Iraq tried to buy uranium "yellow cake" (ore) -- a June 2003 Memo reveals.
A declassified court exhibit introduced in the 2007 trial of Scooter Libbey proved that Saddam Hussein tried to get uranium ore from Niger -- covertly and under the table.
This is clear evidence that Saddam Hussein was actively developing nuclear weapons. Iraq already had stockpiles of uranium "yellow cake" that it was not using -- but that uranium was being watched by UN inspectors. Iraq could have no reason for wanting to buy more uranium, quietly and under the table, except to circumvent UN inspectors.
Iraq was in fact working on devloping a nuclear bomb. The United States government had sound reason to believe that Saddam Hussein was developing and working to build nuclear bombs.

Paging Joe Wilson.. put up or shut up buddy.
US v. Libby, a show trial worthy of Stalin.
NYT's 4 ' headline on Sundays paper
Hell will have to freeze over first
Has Joe Wilson ever testified about any of this under oath?
Scopes Monkey Trial, redux. Poor Scooter.
Oh, please tell me that that self-serving traitor has committed perjury. (And that the government is actually going to prosecute him for it.)
“When the cease-fire agreement with the U.S.A. was violated, a state of war immediately and automatically existed between the U.S.A. and Iraq. “
Gee, I guess the MSM knew about that little item, but sure didn’t mention it.
Cherry picking of the facts, anyone?
Even Joe Wilson's article states that Iraqis made contact with Niger officials. We know that already!

Couple this with his german nuke techs and there ya go!
The Prime Minister of Niger at the time reported confidentially to the US State Department that the topic of the meeting was uranium yellowcake (ore), which Iraq wanted to buy. He was in the meeting and he says it was about uranium.
Iraq already had uranium yellowcake... being watched by Inspector Clousseau of the UN. So they could not have needed uranium yellowcake for peaceful purposes.
The only reason left for Iraq wanting to buy uranium was to build a nuclear bomb.... without the UN knowing about it.

Agreed. But how convoluted is a prosecution where they end up convicting Scooter Libby? None of this makes any sense ... unless you’ve got enemy sympathiser moles trying to bring down the President during a time of war.
It’s crazy. Many people have said for a long time that the State Department is populated by enemies of the US (on the US payroll). Remember that this memo only came out because of Scooter Libbey’s defenes attorneys.
Do you, or does anyone, remember the infamous Rockefeller memo?
Seems like the gameplan therein has been in effect for a long time, humming right along.
Rockefeller was, is, and always will be a traitor to the USA in my opinion.
What do you suppose Joe Wilson is thinking? ;)
Most recently, during the Petraeus hearings, the Rodham rodent point blank asked the General to tell her in open hearings what ‘losing would look like’ ... in effect asking him to detail for the enemy what they must accomplish to garner the democrat forced withdrawal of our troops from Iraq. Such treasonous crap goes completely unreported, even in conservative talk radio!
Actually, Wilson's article doesn't mention that fact. In later articles, as information bled out that he had lied in his first article, he would add detail attempting to cover himself. It was Tenet that first revealed that Wilson told him, verbally, what he didn't mention in his op-ed.
What Wilson's article does do, however, is play a sleight of hand. He ignores the charge that Saddam tried to obtain uranium, instead attempting to prove that such a sale didn't transpire.
His proof that it didn't happen is to say that IAEA monitored uranium mining too closely for such a thing to occur. The truth was otherwise; IAEA wasn't monitoring these mines at all. The reasons were as follows: Niger hadn't yet passed laws allowing the inspectors into the country; IAEA claimed it didn't have the personnel anyway, and thirdly, that yellowcake is considered by them to be low-grade ore not worthy of monitoring directly. Yellowcake sales are supposed to be self-monitored, the countries involved are requested to notify IAEA themselves.
Apropos probably of nothing, has anyone ever bothered to ask where Libya's yellowcake came from? Since, according to Wilson, contraband of uranium is impossible, where did theirs come from?
The answer is, Niger. Half their supply was smuggled in from Niger, and then later self-reported. The other half was smuggled in from Niger and never self-reported. Perhaps "smuggle" is too strong a word, since it was probably simply purchased and delivered. But Wilson's claim that uranium sales to rogue states are impossible, is just silly on the face of it.
Yes, they always demand to know everything, and “the public has a right to know” seems to be their mantra.
Well, I’m one of the “public” and am therefore entitled to have a lot of questions answered, too.
Like, why wasn’t Rockefeller hauled before a court for his treason?
Sometimes, I am not very hopeful for the future...
From a purely international law point of view, this is pretty much exactly the proper grounds for the war in Iraq. It's not actually a new war. It is a resumption of Gulf War I given that Iraq did not comply with the terms of cease-fire.
WELL! Isn’t this interesting.
Nobody in the press, of course. But there is evidence it definitely came from Niger.
And some of it, at least, may well have been Saddam's yellowcake.
You're aware, of course, that -- in Jan-Feb, before his NYT op-ed -- Joe Wilson was writing columns and making speeches arguing against any American intervention in Iraq. Why? Because Saddam had WMD...and he would use them.
Joe Wilson belongs in the nation's rogue's gallery.
Ping.
The link is to a solicitation to buy a book the reveals the memo??????
How about posting the memo as a basis for the headline.
But yellow cake sounds so harmless...and tasty!
susie
Thanks for the clarification. I did see/read that from the link you gave.
Gotta agree with you there. They have proof that the Iraqis did contact Niger officials, which the Bush Admin had discussed, and they are prosecuting Scooter about not remember something and saying one thing that wasn't correct... when the Bush Admin was right in the first place on the issue.
We need to deal a blow to the Democrats like the US troops are doing to al-Qaeda in Iraq. I am past the point of being able to call Democrats... Americans.
BUMP!
I hope Brit Hume has this.
Thanks for the clarification and for all of your post. I understand it better now.
NO, NO. The memo is available for free at the link below. The book is only confirmation of the story. The main story is from a website maintained by the Associated Press that posted all the documents from the trial. Sorry for the confusion. Go to:
THE STATE DEPARTMENT REPORT DECLASSIFIED IN THE SCOOTER LIBBEY TRIAL CANDIDLY ADMITS:
http://wid.ap.org/documents/libbytrial/jan23/DX71.pdf
If you have any trouble start with the index of all the court exhibits posted by the Associated Press:
http://wid.ap.org/documents/libbytrial/
And the book has nothing to do with the website. It’s only there to show that the conclusions are not off-base
What does this article tell us that we didn’t know on or before October 2003?
WELL! Isnt this interesting.
~~~
Ain’t Dat The Truth...
Let me know if you get an answer on that
Yeah. No kidding.
Ummm... Who do you mean by “we?” (a) intelligent people with their eyes open, or (b) those trying mightily to hide from the truth? Yes, those of us with brains “knew” this in October 2003. But the MSM and the liberals have convinced themselves that “Bush lied.” They are the liars.
Let me just say that, by definition, those who lie (those whom you identify as liars, or otherwise as Liberals and the MSM), know the truth as well as you and I. They simply haven't the nerve to admit it. So, I guess by 'we' I mean just about everyone. The willing and the unwilling alike.
*BUMP* ! . . . *Ping*!
I take it CNN, and the rest of the MSM are running retractions every 10 minutes or so? No? I haven’t seen them yet. Wonder how long until it gets reported on the nightly snewze....
Drunken Ted Kennedy, the do-nothing, playboy, silver spoon killer of Mary Jo Kopechne, should be expelled from the Senate, tried for treason, and hanged (assuming there’s a rope that can hold up that fat slob’s carcass).
it would be forced to return in 2 years to fight AQI.
“It’s not actually a new war. It is a resumption of Gulf War I given that Iraq did not comply with the terms of cease-fire. “
Problem is that most of the population of the U.S. has a memory retention of about two weeks.
Joe Wilson had a company called JCWilson Ventures, INTL.
He was on his way to Niger on ‘company business’ when he was asked by the CIA to ‘spy’ on the yellowcake ore sales.
He went on these trips ONCE during the CLINTON admin, and AGAIN during the BUSH admin.
They ‘asked’ him because he had ‘close’ contacts with the people in Niger that sold the ore.
Joe’s close contact was the President of Niger. Joe’s company is a broker for the President of Niger.
The President of Niger deals in the country’s only export, which is yellowcake ore.
Joe ‘knew’ the deal didn’t go through, because the President of Niger refused. If he had not, Joe would have been the one making the deal, because that is what his company does, and that is why he went in the first place.
The lefties in the CIA thought it was funny that the man they selected to ‘spy’ for them was also the one making money off the sales of that same item.
Did JOE make money off any ‘illegal’ sales of the ore?
We may never know.
