PROVIDENCE — With the General Assembly elections less than nine months away, the Republican State Central Committee has one-tenth of the cash reserves of its Democratic counterpart and has undergone a heated internal debate over how best to spend its money to elect more Republicans to the legislature this fall.

The GOP began 2008 with just $9,721 in the bank, according to filings with the state Board of Elections, after a fourth quarter in 2007 in which the party spent more than $50,000 on staff and fundraising costs.

By contrast, the Democratic State Committee started 2008 with about $96,000.

The RI GOP and the conservative star of the North Governor Carcieri are not well funded but are succeeding with unashamed conservatism in a state where the GOP isn't supposed to win. Show some green love if you can.

The GOP is toast as long as John (die hard moderate)McClain disrespects his donors...

Independents and democrats aren't his donors.

I wonder if alienating the conservatives is finally getting noticed in the RNC bank statements. No more money from me while McCain, Lott, Spector and the like are their mainstream.

The Republican Party will resume receiving my donations when they get serious about closing the borders, cutting spending and reducing the size of government. Until then they can go scratch.

If they could get .10 cents for each Bush Peso they got, they'd probably have enough left over for 2012.

I agree. The next election will be between a racist leftie and an insane leftie. Both empty suits.

I have not heard of him but it sounds good that a conservative is running for governor in Rhode Island.

A good thing the RINOS haven’t tossed him overboard.

Carcieri isn’t running, he’s already in. He won reelection in ‘06. This is about trying to pad the paltry numbers of Republicans in the RI legislature.

They just sent us a request for money. Sent it back with REFUSED on the envelope. Out of money? Let them use their own. They’ll never get another nickel of our hard earned money and they haven’t for awhile. WE even sent a letter to them and those greedy freaks didn’t even have the courtesy to respond. They want our money? yeah, I hope the don’t hold their breath.

I wonder if alienating the conservatives is finally getting noticed in the RNC bank statements.

The RNC called the other evening and tried to convince my wife that we had committed to a $150.00 contribution. Neither one of us recalled promising a contribution, although we have in the past. The individual on the phone asked for a credit card number ... yeah, right pal ... you call me and ask for a credit card number? Bottom line ... we're not inclined to vote for RINO McCain, although given the choice of Hildabeast or Barak Hussein Obama we probably will. However, having said that, not 10 cents of my money will go to the RNC this election cycle.

I got polled this year at the height of the Republican Presidential race (have no idea if it was from the RNC or one of the candidate’s campaign), but they asked me “How important do you beleive it is for us (Republicans) to retain the Presidence in a year in which we are up against two socialist liberal candidates” (or something to that effect). They said would you rate them imporatanc as between a 1-5 with 5 being “very imporatant” and 1 being “not important at all”. I listened patiently then said “About a “2” most of our candidates are pretty liberal themselves”. They then said “thank you” and quickly hung-up!

I don’t think they liked my answer very much, it sounded like low level girl working for the rnc. I don’t fault her, but I can’t stand RNC types!

I know and we refuse to give our money anymore. They’ve gotten the last of anything from us. They all have plenty of money. I refuse to pay for theri charter flights and cars. They can all take a hike both parties.

They noticed this in 2006 - remember the stories? - , but didn't seem to learn. Not to mention the lack of votes from the base and losing both Houses...

They finally quit calling and mailing me. I guess they're not as stupid as I thought. Only marginally, though. Because this election is 2006 intensified - and they expect a different outcome?

The Rhode Island GOP is not an enclave of Rhinos. We can only change the face of the Republican party through funding those candidates who are conservative and they are out there. You had better believe the liberal Republicans are sending their dollars to fund Rhinos. Just make sure you don’t cut off your nose to spite your face. Governor Carcieri and the Rhode Island Gop are some of the most conservative in the land. Rhode Island is poised to become a red state in the future. People are fed up with the taxes and fed up with special deals and liberal policies that have nearly bankrupted the state.
