Obama Said What?(vanity)
STE=Q

Posted on 04/13/2008 4:11:45 PM PDT by STE=Q

Obama, speaking to a group of supporters in San Francisco, CA. , recently said:

"You go into some of these small towns in Pennsylvania, and like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." -- Obama

So lets see what we have here?

Obama says: One goes into ‘these small towns in Pennsylvania’ and like ‘small towns in the Midwest … jobs have been gone now for 25 years… and the ‘Clinton administration… Bush administration… each successive administration has said that these communities are gonna (sic) regenerate and they have not’.

So, in a nutshell, Clinton, Bush, and other ‘successive administrations’, were unable to successfully predict the economic future of these communities.

Obama here implies, that -- when he is elected President -- his’ administration will have superior prognosticative skills, than the former administrations have heretofore had.

Frankly, I doubt anyone can do this -- at least with any degree of certainty.

I think we would have as good a shot at predicting our economic future, using a psychic hotline, as we would depending on this, or that, administration to inform us.

Does anyone think these sorts of economic predictions -- other then getting a candidate elected, or keeping him or her in office -- are practical?

Would any reasonable man or woman think so?

Obama then opines… ‘they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.’

So according to Obama:

The aforementioned people are out of work.

They are struggling to make ends meet.

In short, they have been in an economic recession for around 25 years!

They -- according to the bleak picture Obama paints -- are huddling defensively, perhaps in a corner of their ranch or house (figuratively speaking) as they “cling” to their last earthly possessions: a bible, a rifle, and maybe (by implication) a copy of The United States Constitution.

Now people HAVE, in fact, lost jobs because of ILLEGAL immigration, and UNFAIR trade, but they still have their faith in God, and their constitutional right to bear arms.

So rather than having a profound respect for those patriotic Americans that have given their lives so that we, as Americans, can proudly “cling” to those precious liberties, -- passed on to us from our founding father’s, and inscribed in our Constitution -- Obama implies that if these wretched people just had the palliative of a job, then they wouldn’t need those old, out dated things… like bibles, guns, and religion!

So what sort of conclusions can we draw from these statements of his?

(1) Obama deliberately, underhandedly, said what he said.

Perhaps some esoteric attack on ‘middle’ America -- that only a 'sinister' and 'ingenious' mind like Obama's could concoct?

Or:

(2) Obama is, perhaps, the most profoundly ignorant American, to have ever run for President of the United States?

My first thought was answer number one but, until we know for sure who, if anyone, is 'pulling Obama's chain,' number two seems the easiest (using his own words) to demonstrate -- at least at this time.

Which leads me to…

(3) He is an arrogant, condescending, elitists snob, with a typical left-wing world view.

Qualities -- along with a pronounced tendency toward verbal-flatulence -- he obviously very much “clings” to!

Message to Mr. Obama:

The “common” man, whom you and your ilk show so much disdain for, knows the difference between:

One who is crass and one who has class.

You sir, have clearly and indubitably demonstrated, for all to see, that you exemplify the former kind of person -- rather than the later!

Truly, there are some things that money can’t buy.

Class is one of them!

Obama the enigma?

Obama the open book?

Is he a mystery or hiding in plain sight?

One things for sure:

His ability two put both feet firmly in his mouth -- at the same time! -- calls into question his diplomatic skills, to say the least!

If he can so insult his fellow Americans, what sort of damage could he do in the international community -- during these difficult times?

25 years...More than a greneration and they're waiting around for jobs? It's called school. Last time I heard, they don't teach "Steel Mill Working" in school. They do teach Engineering though.

And you just might have to relocate these days.

Good question. I saw a segment on FoxNews yesterday where they interviewed a Republican who was an Illinois State Senator during the same time Obama was there in the same capacity. Obama's voting record was very interesting: On 8 (I think) occasions Obama would vote one way, then wait until the voting was done and say something like, "I pressed 'yes' when I meant to vote 'no.'" Strange to say the least.

Sometimes Obama can be pretty spooky!(no racism intended!)

And who knew that by exercising two of our constitional rights we were participating in “decisive politics”? I vote for #2 because I still don’t think him or his campaign understand what they said. If he had he would’ve profusely apologized and not given that lame “you are too stoopid to understand what I meant” non apology tht he gave.

It's easy enough to attack the federal government for not solving the economic problems of small towns in Pennsylvania or elsewhere. It doesn't even require any knowledge of economics--in fact, the less you know the more convincing you can sound.

Obama has had two jobs--as "community organizer" in Chicago and as a politician in the Illinois legislature and in the U.S. Senate. He has done almost nothing in his current position other than run for President. Did he ever do anything as community organizer or member of the Illinois legislature that actually helped anyone? Has he ever benefited anyone other than himself, his family, or his financial supporters?

That’s a very good question.

I once new a community organizer that did help people.

I can’t remember her name, but if she ran for office, I would certainly be able to say something on her behalf.

Where ARE those that Obama — supposedly — “helped?”

Thanks for your post!

Nope, Obama the Marxist.

He’s fiends with an old Weatherman, and his ‘gaffe’ is straight Marxist claptrap. The usual jargon would be “the American prolateriate has succumbed to false consciousness” with some remarks about “the opiate of the masses” thrown in. He reduces everything to economics—people want firearms, not to defend themselves, but because they are economically downtrodden; people are religious, not because they actually care about transcendant realities, but because they are economically downtrodden, etc.

“Workers of the world unite,” just doesn’t sell anymore, but Obama’s message is just the same old leftist drivel repackaged.

Yes, the comment is truly stupid, shows economic illiteracy, and the typical Harvard prejudice against the kind of "real people" who live in small towns. The question is, can this cause enough damage to prevent Obama from being nominated? If not, will it cause enough damage to prevent him from being elected?

I vote for No, and Yes, respectively.

He said us folks out here in fly-over country are victims; victims of dysfunctional government that has failed to meet its constitutional obligation to provide for our material needs, and, moreover, victims of our own ineptitude, our innate helplessness. The frustrating consequences of these failings will be overcome forthwith if we vote for CHANGE.

Obama was at the billionaire Getty Mansion!

Hey, thanks for mentioning that. Most of the news accounts & even the critical commentary I've been reading leave the location of his very deliberate 'gaffe' out, but it's important to put what he said in context because it makes this phony con-artist's hypocrisy even more egregious.

As you said, he was behind closed doors talking to a crowd of über-rich donors at Ann & Gordon Getty's lavish mansion in Pacific Heights (bought with blood money by evil oil barons, no less!) when he cast his slurs upon all of middle america.

On any other day, Obama would have been perfectly correct to smugly assume most of the left coast glitterati assembled on San Francisco's Billionaire's Row that day would wink approvingly at his brazenly arrogant elitism.

Clearly he didn't anticipate that one of the liberals present, Mayhill Fowler, evidently suffers from uncharacteristic intellectual honesty & would later have serious misgivings about his petty two-faced bigotry & post her recording of the event online.

In other words, Obama was snarking on the very working class voters whose alleged misery he claims only he can alleviate while he was hobnobbing with all his wealthy industrialist buddies & their trust-fund scions - which pretty well puts paid to the media-generated myth that his is a grassroots candidacy financed by Ma & Pa America & torpedoes the hoary DNC mantra that it's the republicans who are the party of the rich.

We all know the truth is that the upper eschelon of the wealthy power establishment elite have been forking over serious coin to put this guy in their hip pockets & now we know that he's obviously only too happy to pander to their prejudices about the lower classes to keep all those high-rollers' ducats rolling in.

Yet what seems to have been lost in all the umbrage his comment's been generating is that, just as he got caught confessing to the Canadians last month that his anti-NAFTA schitck in Ohio was all a ruse to appease the rubes, here he's essentially assuring the bigwigs in California he's not really a rabid anti-free trader, he just plays one on TV because that's what the gun-totin' bible-thumpin' racist yahoos in flyover country want to hear! And in all the commotion, that confession is being overlooked, IMO.

Oh yeah, Obama's all about change, alright, lot's of it, in fact. He just neglected to mention the teeny-weeny little detail that it's all heading straight into his lying little pockets!

“The question is, can this cause enough damage to prevent Obama from being nominated? If not, will it cause enough damage to prevent him from being elected?”

Even if he doesn’t make it to the Presidency, look how close he would have come if he gets (and it looks like he will)the Democratic nomination?

Would this not highlight the tenuous state of the union?

Or perhaps the opposite?

What do you think?

Thanks for your post!

I can appreciate Mayhill Fowler’s intellectual honesty.

I’m sure Obama has myriads of sincere — if misguided — supporters.

Hopefully, as more information comes out, they well begin to wake up to where Obama is really “coming from” — if I may use some popular black argot!

Thanks for your informative post!

Obama, sadly, has put his foot in his mouth while revealing his ignorance of social science and economies.

Many small towns, rural, are in the same position of needing economic revitalization. North Carolina has been such an example: Manufacturing went elsewhere, and the people here either retrained, acquired new skills, went back to college or trade school, moved, or withered on the vine. What is problematic in many small towns is that they get taxed out of existence by those elected to office. Vallejo, CA is one such example -- and a bad one.

As more and more people move to North Carolina, NC is experiencing a higher unemployment rate which will be, soon, buttressed and smoothed out by more businesses moving here, and the military expansion at Fort Bragg. What will kill the economy of North Carolina is MORE DEMOCRATS taxing and spending.

You can jolly well bet that folks in Vallejo, CA are going to be buying self-defense under the wire -- Vallejo is not middle America -- it's ipsy doodle San Francisco Bay Area. No more police, firefighters, etc. People are currently quite bitter over how Democrats, who've been running Vallejo for handily 40 years, have run the towns infrastructural budget into the pits of hell.

I doubt the people of Vallejo are going to be full bore into opening up Your Black Muslim Bakery stores: Vallejo is just a drive away from Oakland. Will Barack claim that Democrats have totally screwed up Vallejo? No. Will BO begin to comprehend why people in Vallejo are bitter, defensive, and praying to God for their safety, sustenance, and that of their loved ones?

No. I'll wager he'd just switch the conversation over to talking about "health care for the needy". That is, obvious. Dems always do this after it was they who poisoned the well in the first place.
