AP Chairman Refers to "Obama bin Laden" -- In Posing Question to Barack Obama
EDITOR & PUBLISHER ^ | April 14, 2008 | Joe Strupp

WASHINGTON After addressing the journalists gathered at the annual Associated Press luncheon in Washington, D.C., today, Sen. Barack Obama, standing at the podium, took a few questions. The last one from the audience, delivered via AP chairman W. Dean Singleton, was related to Afghanistan, our troops to Iraq and the threat posed by, as Singleton put it, "Obama bin Laden."

Obama quickly corrected Singleton. “That’s Osama bin Laden,” he said. The crowd laughed a bit. "If I did that, I am so sorry," Singleton replied.

Then Obama said, “This is part of what I have been going through for the past months, which is why it is impressive that I am still standing here.”

Singleton earlier had introduced Obama by noting that there were more than 1100 attendees at the luncheon, believed to be the first sold out AP luncheon ever. “One thing I can say about you is, you sure are a draw," Singleton said. "You’ve done better than the Rolling Stones do. We are glad to have a little extra income....Imagine that, journalists and media folks slugging it out to pay to hear a politician.”

Last year’s speakers were Mike Huckabee and Eliot Spitzer. “I can be sure that Sen. Obama did not spend last night at the Mayflower Hotel,” Singleton quipped.

Obama's talk had amounted to little more than a basic stump speech and his answers to questions tended to be rather long-winded -- at least until the Osama/Obama reference -- and some luncheon attendees exited early.

It wasn't a slip up. When was the last time you heard Obama say something good about America? I rest my case.

Well, it is hard to tell them apart: Both want to subjugate Christians and Jews, both want defeat for America, both lie to hide their real intent, both want to “change” our society dramatically, etc...

Ah...From Freudian slips to out right lies to utter arrogance, I so love seeing 'Rats eat each other alive.

McCain could slip into a coma right after his acceptance speech at the convention and he would still trounce either 'Rat in November.

That's true. Both want America to lose in Iraq and both think America is the fount of all evil.

This guy is soooo impressed with himself all of the time. He is surprised that a black man with a Muslim name can do so well.

I don’t think Obama/Osama thinks too highly of black people.

Nice! Somebody do it again.

Why don't we just ask Osama bin -- Osama Obama -- Obama what -- since he won by such a big amount. Seriously, Senator Obama is really unique and special.

The fact that he mixed up two widely admired media stars with similar names is entirely understandable. What’s more noteworthy here is how obsequious the chairman of the famously objective AP is to the liberal elite press’s preferred candidate Osamabama.

They're not there to just hear a politician. They're also there as lead cheerleaders and to advance the candidacy of that politician.

Isn’t it fascinating how those who get their knickers in a knot when someones says Obama is a Muslim, or says Obama’s middle name, or calls him Osama ARE THE SAME PEOPLE who tell us over and over and over with condescension that there’s nothing wrong with Muslims, as most are moderate and ‘want the same things we want’?
