Respect plants, say ethicists
Herald Sun ^ | 15 April 2008

PLANTS deserve respect, a group of Swiss experts says, arguing that killing them arbitrarily is morally wrong - except when it comes to saving humans or maybe picking petals off a daisy.

In a report on "the dignity of the creature in the plant world", the federal Ethics Committee on non-human Gene Technology condemned the decapitation of flowers without reason, among other sins.

Still, commission member Bernard Baertsche suggested the body weighed such cruel acts on a case by case basis, noting "the simple pleasure of picking the petals off a daisy might suffice as a reason".

Similarly "all action that involves plants in the aim to conserve the human species is morally justified,'' the commission, tasked to offer an ethical take on all areas of biotechnology and genetic engineering, said in its report.

During the day.

At night, when there is no light, plants use oxygen just like all other lifeforms.

Plants use CO2 during their life and release it after they die and rot

“the dignity of the creature in the plant world”

Oh jeez.

Ya know, a generation ago, this would have been rich enough in its absurdity to be a Monty Python sketch.

These morons are serious.

It truly is the end of Western Civilization.

Green plants = PHOTOSYNTHESIS

PHOTOSYNTHESIS -- a function or activity of green plants--is the production of sugar and pure oxygen from light, water, and air.

Every year, millions and millions of tomatoes are torn SCREAMING from their mother earth.

Ah, but isn't it better to end their painful existence as mindless vegetables?

Words fail me.

Literally.

Everything I might say is so sarcastic or rude as to get me banned, so I will just close my mouth and pray they don’t come here.

Tool (the band) did a weird song right along these lines.

It was called Disgustipated.

And the angel of the Lord came unto me,
snatching me up from my
place of slumber,
and took me on high,
and higher still until we
moved in the spaces betwixt the air itself.
and he bore me unto a
vast farmland of our own midwest,
and as we descended cries of
impending doom rose from the soil.
one thousand, nay, a million
voices full of fear.
and terror possessed me then.
and I begged,

“Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?”
And the angel said unto me,
“These are the cries of the carrots,
the cries of the carrots.
You see, reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day
and to them it is the holocaust.”
And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat
like the tears of one millions terrified brothers
and roared,
“Hear me now,
I have seen the light,
they have a consciousness,
they have a life,
they have a soul.
damn you!
let the rabbits wear glasses,
save our brothers...can I get an amen?
can I get a hallelujah? thank you, Jesus.

LOL!

This reminds me of the 1960’s? when there was a movement by fruitcakes, hippies, flower children (don’t recall who) that were trying to convince everyone that plants had nervous systems therefore they shouldn’t they killed or eaten because it was torture, or some such lame thing.

I committed ethnic cleansing this weekend. I sprayed weed killer on the crab grass and mowed my lawn.

Oh, the guilt......

Second that! LOL

I hate to throw out plants, and I don’t want to know what the kids are going to do to them in their science experiments, but, jeez! Get a life already!
