Yuma police have identified the Yuma man shot Monday morning during a reported vehicle burglary.

Robert Cuen, 23, of Yuma was shot once in the lower back after he allegedly attacked another man whose car Cuen allegedly was burglarizing in the 3200 block of Rome Street, police said in a news release.

Police said the shooting occurred after Ian Laughlin, 23, was awakened around 5 a.m. by a noise outside his home on Rome Street.

Laughlin said he went to investigate and confronted two men trying to burglarize his vehicle, police said.

Laughlin told police he was armed with a .22-caliber handgun and that he fired several shots when one of the two men attacked him, police said.

Cuen later sought treatment at YRMC for a single gunshot wound in the lower back, police said.

The other alleged burglar has not been located or identified, police said.

YRMC said it could provide no condition report for Cuenl.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to call police at 373-4700 or 78-CRIME.

.22?

The absolute minimum I use for home protection is a PPK/S .380.

My home defense is a 12 gague shotgun. Slug followed by 3-inch 00-buck for the rest. At least he brought a gun to the fight!

Unfortunately, here in Iowa he would probably end up in jail.

We can’t shoot to protect a motor vehicle. Shooting in the back may also be hard to defend.

Ain’t sayin’ it’s right. It’s just the way it is.

Heavens, no. I have a wheel gun for hunting-460. But 1911's rule the roost here. Try different ammo, or holding it tighter. If you don't hold it tight, they don't always cycle properly. If that isn't it-get a 'smith to check it. All the ppk's I have owned over the years worked flawless.

Better a .22 in the hand than a .44 left behind. Any gun is better than no gun.

ppks jams when not held tight enough.

If too much of the energy is absorbed by the flexation in your hand and wrist, there is not enough energy to cycle the slide completely.

Make sure you’re using two hands, in a well positioned V-grip.

Yup!

I love my Gold Cup.
My comment was that I wouldn’t use anything smaller than the ppks.

I’m with you. Police riot gun, Ithaca pump, with 00-Buck shell backed up with flechette (little razors packed into a 12 Ga. shell) rounds.

My 12 ga is a Mossberg 500 with 18 inch bbl. I got it at a good price with the pistol grip stock, but I hate those. I replaced it with the Hogue Youth Model Stock. Short, but still a traditional stock. I keep the first round a Brenneke slug since I have had several black bear problems (no need to fire shots yet though). The rest are 3-inch 00-buck. I have a side saddle shell holder with 6 more slugs in case I need to dump out a 00-buck.

I have been transitioning on my CCW carry gun. Trying to go from 40S&W and 45ACP to 10MM in a 6-inch Long-Slide 1911. Vertical shoulder holster under a jacket seems to be working, at least in winter.
