Huckabee Starts GOP Political Action Committee

Mike Huckabee, still one of many names being floated as John McCain’s vice presidential nominee, has started up his own political action committee, Huck PAC.

In his kick-off blog on his Web site, the former Arkansas governor and Republican presidential candidate writes that he’s launching the PAC to promote candidates who “hold firm” to the principles of “tax reform, a strong national defense, real border security, life, the family, less government and individual liberty.”

Aside from that, Huckabee has high goals for upending the power balance in Washington.

“Huck PAC is committed to helping Republicans regain control of the House and Senate, regain a majority of governorships and elect John McCain as the 44th president of the United States,” the group’s mission statement says.

“Thanks to your support and hard work, during our Governor Huckabee’s campaign for president these past months, we became known as the team who could do more with less. Now, our goal is to continue our work with the same reputation,” the statement continues.

The Republican presidential candidate, who won the lead-off Iowa caucuses Jan. 3, bowed out of the campaign after McCain clinched the nomination during the March 4 primaries.

Mike is a funny, engaging and nice guy.

If only he would use his God given talents for freedom instead of Statism in the name of Jesus, he would be a hero.

There is still hope. He is a smart guy. Maybe he listened to us and learned something.

The single most abusive, intrusive governmental institution in America is the income tax, and IRS. They demand that you report virtually every aspect of your personal business, without any probable cause, let alone a warrent. They can take you to court, and demand that you prove your innocence, or you are considered guilty. They can seize your assets, before your trial, making it impossible to obtain good counsel. And yet the one candidate who was serious about eliminating it is constantly labeled a “statist”. I don't get it.

He’s outspokenly 100% pro-life , pro-military, and wants to close down the IRS. What else do people want? I can overlook the other stuff with those strong points going for him. Those three things alone could change our country almost miraculously for the better.

Someone with some class, enough class to hide the petty vindictiveness. I believe this PAC means he and his wife need a way to funnel more money to themselves.

And yet the one candidate who was serious about eliminating it

I'm still waiting to hear how he plans to repeal the 16th amendment while simultaneously ushering in a completely new and different tax system without 1) causing chaos, 2) ending up with a sales and income tax.

I'm not saying it's completely impossible. I'm saying that if he's serious about what he says, he needs to address these extremely difficult questions. He talks as if he can just wave his hand and poof!, goodbye IRS. I always saw his Fair Tax talk as pure pandering, no substance.

DING-DING-DING!!!!!!!!! We have a winner!!!

Hey Mike! Why not go into the private sector and get a real job! Learn what it's like to meet a payroll, deal with all the BS regulations that ordinary folks have to live with!

Losers all seem to do this, a way to pay off campaign debts and support themselves without having to work for a living.

Repealing the 16th Amendment is not required to get rid of the income tax and replace it with the Fair Tax. It authorizes an income tax, it doesn't require one. I know the argument that eventually you would end up with both, but that is simply a way supporters of the Flat Tax to raise the bar so high that it becomes impossible. Yes, Congress could reenact an income tax. But the Flat Tax could be repealed at any time also. It would be politically much easier to raise marginal rates again than it would be to reimpose income and payroll taxes once they had been eliminated. In any case, ultimately the people will get what they demand from their elected officials.

Repealing the 16th would be a “nice to have”, but not doing so is not a legitimate reason to rule the Fair Tax out.
