The annual "Day of Silence," sponsored by the Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network (GLSEN), will be celebrated in many public schools next week. This event encourages students to remain silent on April 25. GLSEN claims the event counteracts bullying, but it is merely promoting an anti-heterosexual viewpoint. Schools can teach students the value of respect without accepting GLSENs propaganda event. Many states, like Florida, for example, have laws that require abstinence-based education when sexuality is discussed. In those states the school cannot recognize the Day of Silence without promoting abstinence.
Liberty Counsel is encouraging students to mount a counter-celebration to promote a positive message of purity on the Day of Silence. Students are encouraged to wear white and to distribute flyers promoting sexual purity whenever other students are permitted to distribute literature promoting the Day of Silence. We have posted informational flyers and resources on our Day of Purity web site to promote abstinence. The flyers include information about relationships, STDs and related topics.
Some school administrators do not understand that students cannot be penalized for refusing to observe the Day of Silence. Here are some recent complaints Liberty Counsel has received:
Florida - A principal told a father that if his son was not at school on the Day of Silence that the boy would fail the school year. Indiana - A public school is participating in the Day of Silence against the wishes of some parents. Parents were told that it is "against the law" to cancel the program and that any absences would be unexcused that day. Iowa - A school board member told a former student that a student refusing to speak on the Day of Silence was not anymore disruptive in a school setting than a "Christian wearing a cross." Oklahoma - A high school graduate wrote to her former principal to protest the celebration of the Day of Silence. The principal said that if he did not allow the Day of Silence, he could not allow Bible clubs and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. South Dakota - A student was told that if she is absent on the Day of Silence, she must write a paper explaining why she will not participate.
Students are not required to participate in the Day of Silence. Parents who do not want their children exposed to GLSEN's anti-family agenda can choose to keep their children home. We have prepared a letter that explains that students can choose not to participate in the Day of Silence.
If your child is being discriminated against for not observing the Day of Silence, call Liberty Counsel at 800-671-1776. If you send an email, please include your name, address, daytime telephone number and the best time to return your call.
Please pray that students will be protected from forced indoctrination by GLSEN, especially next week, and that the truth will prevail.
Well, that is queer.
People who primarily engage in oral sex, celebrating their perversion by observing a day to keep their mouths shut.
whatever you do, kiddies, try not to hurt their feelings! ;)
I thought this was over already. Do they have more than one a year? Makes me wish my kids went to school, for a day. What a ruckus Anoreth and Bill could cause!
As always, the homosexual agenda is about gaining access to other people’s children.
Isn’t it kinda difficult to engage in learning if you aren’t going to talk? Gee and I thought public schools were about learning.
Mission America says they have a list of schools participating in this farce. I contacted our Fairfax County VA schools' Community Relations Coordinator and he said, "Fairfax County Public Schools has never sponsored this or any other protest demonstration. It is, however, impossible to stop this or any other website from using the names of our schools."
I forwarded his email to Mission America. Their list of Fairfax schools seems to be a bit smaller but there are still quite a few schools still on the list. I told my niece to report back to me.
Queer Day.
That sucks.
“Fairfax County Public Schools has never sponsored this or any other protest demonstration. It is, however, impossible to stop this or any other website from using the names of our schools.”
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
It is also impossible for Fairfax County schools from prohibiting gay activists from being silent. Their comment is disingenuous at best.
Of course it would be silly to try and force anyone to speak if they refused. There just better not be posters on walls, school sanctioned events, etc. advertising or promoting this nonsense. Same goes for any school officials (of course that includes teachers) giving any kind of verbal or written recognition to this.
One of their tactics is bullying and it doesn't work if the truth is told.
It would be rather hard to shield the student body from this protest. If a student attends he will be subjected to the gay message.
With this particular Day of Silence, if a child refuses to “assemble” with other pro-gay students, the government will punish him.
Government schools always were, are not, and always will be a freedom of conscience and First Amendment NIGHTMARE!
Solution: Begin the process of privatizing universal K-12 education.
Yeah! So what will he do?
If churches and their members **really** cared about their kids, every Christian child in the U.S. would have the opportunity to be in a tuition-free Christian school.
Sadly, there are too many government teachers and government school employees sitting in the pews. Few minister have the moral grit to bite the hand that puts money in the collection plate.
Thankfully, my school won’t be in session, so I won’t have to deal with that.
Now if the school felt the antipathy between the factions deterred the students from learning they could send those students home. They don't have to give credence to either side.
Damn the left! What a bunch of fascists! Using the public school system to force compliance with leftist dogma!

Ongoing, from a 2006 case in Illinois.
Students who do not want to be subjected to the pro-homosexual propaganda are punished by the government if they do not attend. This is a violation of their First Amendment Right ( and that of their parents) to free assembly. Government is also forcing them into their prison-like schools where they **will** be subjected to pro-homosexual propaganda that undermines their religious worldview.
If the government punishes the students who refuse to speak then their First Amendment Rights are violated.
The **point** is that the premise upon which government schools were built is faulty.
Government schools are now, always were, and always will be a freedom of conscience and First Amendment nightmare!
Solution: Begin the process of privatizing universal K-12 education. Let parents, teachers, and principals decide these matters privately in the private setting of a private school.
My sons will not be in school that day.
They will be with me and we will be out fishing.
It has been threatened that my children will receive failing grades for not being in school that day...if that becomes the case, I will be in the superintendents office with the principal and my lawyer.
And students will probably get in trouble if they show up on Day of Silence with “Say it Loud! Straight and Proud” t-shirts
I understand what you're saying about teachers in the pews. We have our fair share in our church, and they are aware of what the situation is in our culture.
I don't give a damn that the school "resolve" it. They should do nothing.
Privatization? I've always favored. Not gonna happen between now and the 25th. Therefore, not germane to the discussion.
The Constitutional rights of minors? The right not to be spanked, grounded, sent to the corner for time-out? That's another funny discussion I don't entertain.
Because my school will be on spring break next week, we are “celebrating” the Day of Silence today. The students that would be in the Republican club (if the school allowed a Republican club, we’ve asked) got together and printed out stickers that say “Straight Pride” (since it’s not derogatory, the school can’t do anything about it). We didn’t print out enough! Everyone wants one. I see people wearing them in every class. Other students have come into school with Lev 20:13 written on their shirts. One kid came in with the shirt, “I don’t hate gay people, GOD does”. I personally find it fun to trick the silent people into talking. My count is 3 so far, with about half the day to go.
My school has posters everywhere announcing this (we’re holding it today since our spring break is next week). It’s completely sanctioned and supported by the school administration and teachers.
Mind me asking what school district? I'd understand if you preferred to maintain some anonymity.
I need to ask my niece again if she's seen anything going on in her school as of today. As far as I know schools in session next week.
One more thing. An after-action-report with photos would be great. Show more people WTH's going on in their skrools.
:-) Good point about how the Left opposes a "moment of silence," but it has been upheld in court as constitutional. I think you're onto something there, though. It might be a good idea for some students to counter the "Day of Silence" with their own "Silence for Prayer" or how about "Silence to Honor Our Troops" held on the same day.
Just read your post, and I’m surprised to see you live in my state. I know you wouldn’t want to reveal exactly which school, but can you reveal the county? Do many students participate in the so-called “Day of Silence” at your school? Or is the DOS considered a joke by most of the students?
Unfortunately, no cameras or cell phones allowed in school, so no pictures available (though I probably could have snuck one or two if I had read your post before the end of the school day). The school district is named after the town, but I’ll tell you it’s in Passaic County, NJ.
There’s a group of about 10-15 kids who were really into the whole Day of Silence thing and about 50-100 more (out of a school of 1400) who took part because they thought it was a cool thing to do. Everyone else thought it was a big joke. There were more kids actively opposing it than actively promoting it. There were quite a few teachers who supported it, though.
By about 6th period, the school administration had caught on and started telling teachers to tell students to take the “Straight Pride” stickers off, but I managed to make it through the entire day with mine. A friend of mine with bible verses on his shirt got called into the principal’s office, but as he put it, “I totally owned!” and they let him keep the shirt. We’re both honors students and in an AP Government and Politics class. He just started quoting the Supreme Court case Tinker v. Des Moines and school regulations at them.
My tally at the end of the day was 4 kids that I made talk.
Excellent! I love it! What is interesting to me is that this particular new form of shoving homosexuality down our throats takes a very small minority to get an entire school all agitated and off topic. The small rural high school where I used to work (until I gave up on public school altogether!) had never had even one student even mention this day of silence thing until last year. Then one boy transferred there who said he was gay. He brought flyers and handouts and got a whole bunch of liberal-tending students to go along with it. Just one student took away an entire day of education from everyone.
We were not supposed to penalize the students who were silent for not participating in class. The entire day was wasted educationally, as the other students spent their time trying to get the gay supporters to talk, etc. Their silence was disruptive because they made a big deal about being silent, writing notes, signs, etc. I have students who spend almost the whole year being slient and are not disruptive at all. But the homosexual activists are not truly silent on this day; they are obnoxious and disruptive. I am so glad my daughter is now in a Catholic school.
I thought schools had anti-bullying policies, or does that apply just to bullying the homos?
God does not hate gay people; that is a sacrilegious message.
Good job and thanks for the report!
Good work, minor49er. I’m especially glad to hear that you and your friend didn’t give in when school administrators began telling students to remove their “Straight Pride” stickers.
