Should convicted criminal illegal immigrants be deported?
Associated Content ^ | 4-14-08 | Bobby Tall Horse

Our prisons are boiling over capacity with criminals. Convicted criminal immigrants make up a large number of inmates. IF it costs approximately $42,000 per year to house these illegal immigrants, should they be deported? Even small rural towns like mine are having to cough up tax money to build new jails. No one wants to point to the criminal illegal immigrants that are filling the old jail. They just tell us that we need a bigger jail. Yet the papers are filled with names in the arrest column that points squarely to immigrants.

I'm torn on this one. With an open border, wouldn't they just come back to our streets and carry on?

Yep. You can’t deport unless the borders are secure. Heck, I’d claim I was an illegal if I ever got put in he pokey in that case.

Not that I plan on going to jail anytime soon. Why? Have you heard something?

Once they’ve served their sentence yes, until then they need to pay for their crimes committed here.

P.S. There’s an easy way to pay for incarcerating criminal aliens. All you need to do is reduce the overall amount of foreign aid by the amount requested by state and local governments to house these scum.

It really is that simple.

Um, let me think on it, hmmm, YES! Of course they'd be back within days. It's not just tax dollars going for new jails, it's tax dollars for new housing, new roads, new medical facilities, new schools, new EVERYTHING. We're having to build and expand and all to the expense of illegals who our government welcomes with open arms. Crime is skyrocketing because of illegals and our government is not only turning a blind eye but they're throwing money at them to bring more and more over. Totally boggles the mind.

Yes.

Or, for VIOLENT offenders: Yes, after they have served their (HARD) prison time here.

There is an even easier way (an it works for ALL prisoners, not just illegal aliens):

Make ALL prisoners WORK, and work HARD, at productive jobs in prison, to pay for the cost of incarcerating them.

Whether we should immediately deport criminal illegal immigrants, with the obvious risk of them coming back across the border, or continue to house them in our prisons, with the expense that entails?

Nothing stupid about that question. There are costs and benefits to both courses of action, and it’s something that should be debated.

Ah, that’s what I’m talking about. Just about every community around us is having to cough up more tax money for jails and prisons. That just urks me. The danged border ought to be under control, and the mexican government ought to be footing the bill OR all those individuals in Congress that keep the border open should be required to pay the inmates’ upkeep.

PS - Apart from incarceration costs, we should cut off ALL foreign aid to ALL other nations NOW, for no other reason than that it gains us nothing as a nation and costs us dearly in our ability to protect our own citizens.

Should convicted criminal illegal immigrants be deported?

Here's a news flash for you: ALL illegal ALIENS, not immigrants, are criminals, the very fact that they are called illegal aliens(if the correct term is used)says it all.

And yes, they should all be deported, but the ones who commit crimes such as drunk driving, robbery, murder, killing people in auto accidents while driving intoxicated(another form of murder) and other like crimes should serve their sentence here first and then be deported after, unless of course they are executed for murder at which time their bodies should be deported at the request, and expense, of their relatives.

Jobs paid for by the taxpayers. Prisons are a necessary expense, but they aren’t economically productive. Jobs provided there are paid for by money that could be used to provide productive jobs in the private sector.

No government program should ever be viewed as a jobs program. It’s terrible for our economy in the long run. Make no mistake, prisons are an expense that should be minimized as much as is feasible, as long as they accomplish their purpose.

Make them stick it out six months in jail (not prison, jail!), then deport them.

I say “jail,” not “prison” because jails are much harsher, and lack long-term residents who become professors at Crime University.

What, exactly, is it that bothers you? And do you mean immigrants, or illegal aliens, or tourists, or what?

We in FR should be among the first to differentiate correctly lest we be misunderstood.

The way I see it, deportation shouldn't be a get out of jail free card. If you break our laws, you should be punished under our laws. Deport them after they've served their term.

If I was making the decision, I'd probably keep felons in jail and deport misdemeanants immediately, along with anyone else who is caught here illegally. The problem, though, is that deportation is no solution to the illegal immigrant problem.

The only way to solve the problem is to stop them from coming (or overstaying their visas) in the first place. The only way to do that is to take away their incentive for coming; without that, no amount of physical border security is ever going to be enough. Fences can be breached, trenches can be bridged, and patrols can be evaded. Where there's a will, there's a way, and as long as we provide them with the will, they'll always find a way.

That's not to say keeping immigrant felons in prison is an ideal solution; as I've mentioned, it's hideously expensive to keep anyone in prison, and that's never an expense we should incur lightly. However, rewarding their crimes with a free ticket home will probably just exacerbate the problem.

This issue highlights the mess in both our immigration/border security situation and in our laughably ineffective penal system. Until we address one or both of those root problems, there's no good solution to this problem.

Even illegal aliens have rights in this country ~ carefully read the Constitution first. We can't just go out and kill them or chop off their body parts.

Now, do they have the right to stay here? Absolutely not.

There's a solution, but it's unpalatable to liberals.

Banishment under pain of death for foreign nationals that commit serious crimes.

If they are convicted we can decide to incarcerate them here or not. In some cases we may want to make sure they are kept in jail. In other cases it might be better to turn them over to the government in the country from which they come.

However, don't just deport them, but banish them. Returning to the US without a presidential pardon, or possible express permission to return to appeal their case, results in an automatic death sentence.

The only defenses would be if they were kidnapped and brought to the US, and probably mental incompetence.

Pleading that they were innocent of the original crime would not be a defense. They would have to appeal that from their home country, or get permission to return to appeal that conviction in advance.

It's not cruel and unusual punishment. The choice to return in violation of the banishment is their own. If they violate the banishment, they must accept the consequences.

It may seem harsh, but these people do not have a right to enter our country, and are already supposed to be banned from returning.

For criminal aliens, I suspect it will be considerably more effective at keeping them from returning than the proposed virtual fence.

That is why it is essential to protect our borders. The biggest threat to this country comes not from Iraq but from our open borders - the planes on 9/11 took off from American soil.

All illegal aliens have broken the law and should not even be in this country - certainly not rewarded with perks such as free medical care, food stamps, admission to public schools, reduced college admission. They along with legal immigrants who break laws should all be deported to their native countries.

If those countries do not want them back - tough. We cannot be wimps and allow India and other countries to use us as the dumping ground for their perverts.

We should simply start a new slave industry: Illegal aliens caught performing criminal acts should held in chain gangs for life for invasion and assault on this nation. Let them build our roadways, schools, and prisons. Oh, and throw in those employers and bankers who give them jobs and housing.

......we can pay for incarcerating criminal aliens by reducing foreign aid by the amount needed by state and local governments to house these scum......

Back in February, Mexican president Felipe Calderon was in the US scrounging for a $1.5 billion handout.

Keep in mind that US taxpayers also provide Mexico with the nuclear umbrella scot-free. Mexico should be warned that if they do not keep illegal lawbreakers out of the US, and if they do not police their borders to curtail the invasion, they can forget about the nuclear umbrella.....and foreign aid.

One thing Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and John McCain all have in common is that they voted to give retroactive Social Security benefits to illegal aliens who committed document fraud. Indeed, McCain voted for it before he was against it.

First let’s make sure we understand terminology and possibly change the question.

Since any of the Illegal Aliens currently in the US should be charged with felonies if they are employed in the US (1. Obtaining a fake ID. 2. Using the fake ID to gain employment) we should change the question to the following:

1. Should Illegal Aliens who have committed felonies be deported.

The answer is YES.

It's ridiculous to even argue this. It's tantamount to arguing that the war on drugs has been a great success. It's the damnedest thing I've ever seen. Normally very smart people reverting to protectionist drivel, is really depressing.
