By tradition, the guest of honor pokes a little fun at himself before the audience of media members and guests.
The vice president worked in a reference to Democrat Barack Obama's controversial comments about "bitter" voters and his own hunting mishap. He thanked the attendees for the kind welcome, saying, "You're not the kind to look down on a bitter man who clings to his guns."

Which is better than his aim. (-:
Romney’s #5 was the best.
Romney said the reasons he dropped out, in reverse order, were:
No. 10: There weren’t as many Osmonds as he thought.
No. 9: Got tired of the corkscrew landings of his campaign plane while under fire
No. 8: As a lifelong hunter, I didn’t want to miss the start of varmint season.
No. 7: There wasn’t room for two Christian leaders in the presidential race
No. 6: I was upset that no one bothered to search my passport files.
No. 5: I’d rather get fat, grow a beard and try for the Nobel prize.
No. 4: When my wife realized I couldn’t win the GOP nomination, my fundraising dried up.
No. 3: Got tired of wearing a dark suit and tie, and I wanted to kick back in a light colored suit and tie.
No. 2: I took a bad fall at a campaign rally and broke my hair.
And the No. 1 reason Romney dropped out: His campaign relied on a flawed campaign strategy that as Utah goes, so goes the nation.
This was SO funny.
Lol, I saw some of this on cable. Dick was MUCH better than the professional comedian that followed him.
The Misses didn’t look so bad either.
Thanks - we owe this laugh to Rush. He talked about it on his show, so I dug up a video and article so that we could all enjoy it.
I rolled in the floor when Cheney gave his ending remarks by offering to give the media the same advice that he gave senator Patrick Leahy on the senate floor.
And the Veep recounted how he asked his wife at the breakfast table if it bugs her that people call him “Darth Vader.” He said she answered, “Not at all. It humanizes you.”
“You would have been one of the great ones.”
He HAS been one of the great ones. But yes, I too would have loved to seen this guy as my president.
We are really going to miss him.
At least there’s something to love about the latter years of the Bush administration.
And I’m grateful that you didn’t “dig out” that video that Rush was discussing at the end of his broadcast today...
My secret confession - I’ve always found the VP to be a hottie!! Like to get a poster made of that picture of him in the shades!
Better hunting with Dick than driving with Ted.
You’ll have to fight me for him, KosmicKitty! He is THE MAN. Love that lopsided grin of his.
And me! Cheney has a lot more than gravitas:)
That would have been “armageddon”:)
Gotta PING the Cheney Chick! (BIG TIME!!!)
I wish the VP would reply to Murtha’s, “he’s too old”, comment regarding McCain.
How about this... Well if we’re going to start eliminating candidates based on age, what’s next, not enough testosterone? If that’s the case, then the two Democratic candidates shouldn’t be let any where near the White House. Although of the two, my money would be on Hillary for the higher t-count.
Indeed. Remember the old Spy magazine cover with the "Hillary's Big Secret" theme? LOL!
Gravitas!
