US climate change plan branded 'Neanderthal'(German minister calls Bush "loser")
abc.net.au ^ | April 17 2008 | AFP

A new plan from US President George Bush which aims to cap greenhouse gases by 2025 has been dismissed as "disastrous" and "Neanderthal" by a group of ministers at a climate change meeting in Paris.

This week Mr Bush said he wanted to stop the growth of US emissions by 2025, taking a stronger stance on the issue than in the past.

However his plan, announced at a ministerial-level meeting of major carbon emitters, has drawn criticism from delegates from Australia, the European Union and some US participants.

Germany says Mr Bush has taken climate change policy back in time, to before last December's UN climate talks in Bali and last July's G8 summit.

In a statement called "Bush's Neanderthal speech," German Environment Minister Sigmar Gabriel said: "His speech showed not leadership but losership. We are glad that there are also other voices in the United States."

South Africa said Mr Bush's proposal was a disastrous effort from the world's biggest carbon polluter, and a "slap" to developing countries.

International efforts are gaining momentum to hammer out a successor agreement to the Kyoto Protocol when it expires in 2012.

The talks in Bali produced a two-year "roadmap" intended to lead towards a global agreement on carbon emissions by 2013.

Climate experts say any new agreement must form a bridge between the US and the EU, on the one hand, and developing nations on the other.

Mr Bush's critics say that instead of setting a date for cutting US emissions, he had merely chosen the year 2025 for them to peak.

He also renewed his attack on Kyoto-style mandatory emissions caps, and pressed big emerging countries to make concessions, saying they should not get "a free ride" in the next climate treaty.

There was a time when diplomats were kicked out for comments like these... compare this to the reaction from the White House who merely called the Germans comment "hot-blooded":

These Eurojerks make me want to puke. The next time the Germans try to exterminate the Jews I suppose they’ll put in for carbon credits.

If this pack of Euro-socialist assclowns doen’t like Bush’s proposals, then I guess the proposals can’t be too bad.

That's been a huge problem with this administration from the beginning - - cowardice in dealing with political enemies.

Indeed. The Dems, MSM and EX-Presidents have brought this about.

I think Bush is an idiot for lending any credence to this Socialist Hoax. This is about politics, not science. We are not discussing lead or Mercury here, just Co2, plant food. You can get rid of all cars, trucks and power plants, and the climate will still tend to warm and cool just as it has ever done. I am far less concerned about the ‘climate’, weather at some location averaged over some period of time, than I am ‘climate’, the prevailing psychological state.

From a recent BBC article:

——China has already overtaken the US as the world’s “biggest polluter”, a report to be published next month says.

The research suggests the country’s greenhouse gas emissions have been underestimated, and probably passed those of the US in 2006-2007. ——

-——Global carbon emissions statistics were last published in 2004. They show Chinese emissions began rising rapidly in 2002. -——

—— But China and many other developing countries struggling to tackle poverty are adamant that any negotiated emissions reductions should not be absolute, but relative to a “business-as-usual” scenario of projected growth. -——

-—— “The only solution is for a massive transfer of technology and wealth from the West.” -——

THEY ALWAYS LEAVE THE BEST FOR LAST!

I once read a quote by LBJ "We trusted the krauts twice and everytime they pulled out their knockwurst it turned out to be a gun".

I think I read it in the old National Lampoon under the true facts section but I was never able to source it. It still makes me laugh.

“Climate experts say any new agreement must form a bridge between the US and the EU, on the one hand, and developing nations on the other.”

Step 1. Tell the environmentalists to piss off.
Step 2. User our technology to reclaim the oil and coal resources we presently have in the US.
Step 3. Build new refineriers and nuke plants.
Step 4. Charge the Arabs and Venezuelans exorbitant fees for their production of excessive greenhouse gasses.

Finally, call these people what they are, Marxists who want the US to fund their one world government scheme.

i would not say cowardice in dealing with political enemies.

1.If Bush fights back then media jumps on him.
2.If Bush ignores his enemies then media jumps on him for not fighting back.

In first scenario Bush is being controlled by political enemies.

In second Bush is controlling his political enemies

Except that Bush’s cowardice in confronting and smacking down political enemies is not from fear of his political enemies, but rather fear of the liberal Democrat newsrooms who hate him no matter what he does anyway. It’s cowardice no matter how you cut it. How can the guy sit there day in and day out like a punching bag? It’s a terrible reflection on all of us who supported him. Bush’s weakness and cowardice in dealing with political enemies is a slap in the face.

FRegards,
LH

He’s actually right. If you’re going to believe this doomsday nonsense why wait till 2025?

Once Bush agreed with their premise they won the arguement.

Bush deserves scorn on this one.

Per NOAA (more of the same)

Solar Activity Forecast: Solar activity is expected to be very low.

Geophysical Activity Forecast: The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet.

What do they propose we do about the sun? After all it has EVERYTHING to do with "climate change".

Good point! By conceding to the premise, the door has been opened for instituting expensive actions that only hurt the country and it could happen before 2025. I think I understand the strategy of waiting that long (AGW completely debunked by then), but once the ball gets rolling it could (and most likely will) gain momentum toward quicker implimentations.

Let the Europeans follow the climate change lemmings off the cliff and see what their economies look like in 5 years. In the mean time China will spew out hundreds of times the pollution without even a reprimand.

I guess we will need to disagree.

Bush is fighting battles that matters.
And ignoring those that he has no chance of winning.
Those who can do what needs to done.
Those that are impotent try to take down their betters with words.

As a matter of fact, Minister Sigmar Gabriel, you are much too kind. I would have used words that would not be allowed here on FR.

Thank you.

The Pres has not presented a plan but a policy. Kyoto, which Algore invented, is nearly gone. This is the President’s way of participating in the international debate and perhaps influencing it in the direction of political reality without actually committing to anything. Not a bad policy.
