Pelosi, Gingrich team up for global warming TV ad
San Francisco Chronicle ^ | 4-18-08 | Zac Coile

Posted on 04/18/2008 10:37:00 PM PDT by kingattax

The political odd couple of Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich has teamed up to film a new TV ad urging U.S. leaders -- yes, that's aimed at you, President Bush -- to take immediate action on climate change.

It's the second of the "Unlikely Alliances" spots filmed as part of former Vice President Al Gore's $300 million "We" advertising and online activism campaign designed to get the American public to pressure their elected officials to address global warming.

The first ad featured left-leaning Rev. Al Sharpton and conservative Rev. Pat Robertson sitting on a couch on a beach in Virginia. The couch has been recycled in the latest ad, where Pelosi and Gingrich sit side-by-side before the backdrop of the U.S. Capitol.

"We don't always see eye to eye, do we, Newt?" Pelosi asks.

"No," Gingrich replies. "But we do agree our country must take action to address climate change."

Pelosi and Gingrich have their bipartisan act down, but the acting is pretty stiff. They should have taken their cues from Sharpton and Robertson, who appeared to be having much more fun in their ad. Of course, they were at the beach. (Both the ads were produced by the Martin Agency, a Richmond, Virginia-based advertising firm.)

former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich
The only thing I've ever agreed with Arianna Huffington on is her low assessment of Gingrich, i.e. he's the same as Bill Clinton but just in a different political party. Amoral opportunist.

Newt has been reduced from a good politician to a mere politician.
I don’t accept for an instant that he believes in the man caused global warming scam—I know him better than that.
He wants back in the game so bad he is willing to swallow any leftist premise,no matter how bogus,to get face time inside the beltway once more.
He’s just another “reformed” conservative ala John McCain and John Glen—so reformed he’s no longer conservative.
Newt has been neutered by the nattering nabobs of negativity.

Instead of truly joining the man-made global warming cult, the majority of conservatives should truly work to bring about solid majorities of “anti-amnesty for illegal immigrants” politicians at every political level and for the long-term, because this is truly the most important issue today! Congress truly needs to successfully block all “amnesty for illegal immigrants” legislation which will be coming from the next POTUS!

Newt, like McCain, has always tried to distinguish himself from being a conservative Republican only by using the “environmental” issue as an example of how he is different from the ordinary run of the mill conservative. McCain is using global warming for the same reason, to burnish his “maverick” credentials. I’m convinced this is a political tool, as there are other conservative Pubs who use the same issue, the environment to separate themselves out from being tagged a meany, cold-hearted Republican, because they think the environment is a “safe” issue they can employ that will make them look good. To me, it just makes them look very bad, as how can you be rational on most conservative matters, and then go totally irrational bonkers on global warming and man’s alleged involvement in it. Does not compute.

I got the same queasy feeling when a William F. Buckley or those like him would be conservative in most areas and then would advocate for legalizing drugs. It really bugs me when an otherwise logical thinking, rational human being veers off into total irrationality on a given topic. Granted, many of us have our irrational moments, however, when you make it your cause celebre for what I consider ulterior political motives, it makes me not trust you (Newt).

Newt did not "sell out" to environmentalists or Al Gore, or John Kerry...

He realized long ago that SOME (particularly, students and young people) are too brainwashed in accepting the GloBull Warning and trying to explain them the "real science" or "my scientists are better than your/their scientists" is not an argument they are going to even listen to, let alone accept.

So, Newt's method is to offer these lost souls a different solution of more "cleaner" / cheaper / "greener" / "renewable" energy (like nuclear and eco-friendly drilling etc.), while Democrats and eco-nuts only offer them more pain and more economic and convenience "sacrifices", such as more taxes, higher prices, more expensive and less comfortable cars or "other" methods of transportation (aka as "public")...

They will go for the former and then, in time, will recognize the Green Scam for what it is - a get-rich scheme by "Al Gore and friends" - and join the ranks of reasonable people. It's a great recruitment mechanism, without )for the moment) challenging their "core" beliefs.

Newt understands that the motive behind Democrats' "GW" and "climate change" scheme is only financial profit and more control over people's way of life - once these are taken out by providing the correct solutions (which are also far more appealing to average people scared by pseudoscience of "Inconvenient Truth") Democrats would not be interested in perpetuating the fraud.

He is rightly not trying to get involved in futile enterprise of arguing the science of GW with brainwashed and financially interested or otherwise invested in the scheme, he offers people a painless and comfortable (and proper and good for all of us) way to defeat the MOTIVE behind the "science"... Which will mean that the more Al Gore spends to scare people with GW and its "horrible consequences", the more receptive the brainwashed will be to Newt's (or plain common sense) solutions of more, cheaper, better energy and more comfortable life and great future.

It's a different, better and much easier way to defeat the warming scaremongers and at the same time accomplish the things that need to be done for more energy generation and diversity (no, wind or solar or ethanol are not going to provide anywhere near the needs of energy for growing economy, they will just transfer a huge amount of money to Democratic "warming-mongers" by way of government mandates and taxes or simple spending on useless "green projects", which they are invested in).

Newt found a great tactic in overall strategy of taking profit from the "environmentalists" in the game of "Global Warming". Once that is done, the entire "Global Warming" movement should "wither on the vine".

I saw this ad tonight.

I couldn’t believe Gingrich was aping “global warming”.

What a tool. It seemed, perhaps, his rationale was that America needs to get off dependence on foreign oil. But he didn’t say that. He said it was about global warming.

Getting America off dependence on foreign oil is important.

“Global warming” is a socialist scam.

Why can’t Republicans stand up ... for ANYTHING?

I gave the book to my late father, never telling him what a schmuck Gingrich was and obviously still is. I'm sure he doesn't believe this tripe about GW, just has investments in carbon credits and green industries no doubt.

Do us all a favor Newt, go on a fishing trip and lose yourself in the great outdoors....permanently.

Otherwise,it’s the pure spin of a Newt sychophant.
Publically buying in to a false premise in order to covertly undermine it later is a sacrifice of principle, not to mention, morals no true conservative would tolerate.

Newt should be telling us this, not you.

Sorry, did not presume to "speak for Newt", just explain the obvious strategy quite often employed in business and politics. And... for anybody listened to his "non-debate" with John Kerry, not the commentary on it... Newt was "telling us this", clearly and transparently.

Publically buying in to a false premise in order to covertly undermine it later...

He isn't "buying into a false premise" to undermine it "covertly", he undermines it quite openly by offering real solutions to more efficient energy generation and diversity (aka, incorrectly, energy "independence") to people who have bought into a "false premise" of Global Warming.

If you don’t have the courage of your convictions to fight your enemy toe-to-toe then best to drop to your elbows and kiss his.

Newt is actually one of the few conservatives who not only chose to "fight our enemy toe-to-toe", but he provides us all an effective and unoffensive model of doing so and winning, without concessions, instead of wasting time and efforts on entirely impractical ways to fight (and at best, be ignored) and stubbornly beat the head against the impenetrable wall, only eventually to lose.
