There is a short length of open space in front of the underground runway. Just enough for a landing aircraft to reduce speed and aim for the tunnel entrance.

How can a plane take-off or land on an underground runway? Perhaps they have "underground aircraft" similar to "underwater ships" in the navy known as submarines ;-)
