I'm a 39-year-old Black man and I'm a racist against other Blacks no less.
Say what?
Well, that's what a University Of Chicago online psychological test tells me. (http://backhand.uchicago.edu/Center/ShooterEffect/)
... the online pop psych test presents you with images of 100 Black and white men. Some are armed, while others are carrying nothing more dangerous than a wallet or a cell phone. Unfortunately, if you're a Black man in New York, you're fully aware of the danger of carrying seemingly harmless objects.. From Amadou Diallo, who died after being shot at 41 times by police as he reached for his wallet, to the case of Sean Bell who, though unarmed, was gunned down by NYPD officers in a confrontation after a bachelor party, New York is ripe (rife?) with examples of how deadly being a Black man in the wrong place at the wrong time can be.
With that in mind, I took the online exam. I was presented with these images and prompted to either shoot or holster my weapon depending on my split-second determination of whether the target was carrying a weapon or not. You lose points for being too slow and deliberate. The point of the exam is to gauge your instinctive belief of whether the target will be armed based on skin color.
...armed or not, I "shot" Black targets faster than I shot white targets. I shot Black armed targets at an average of 0.631 seconds versus white armed targets at 0.662. ...I shot Black unarmed targets at an average of 0.783 seconds versus white unarmed targets at 0.792.
Fractions of seconds? Yes, but still unsettling when you consider the real life implications of armed police officers who make these life and death decisions ... as they encounter Black men on the street.

Jesse Jackson is traveling the country with a tough anti-crime message that he is delivering to inner-city youngsters. In Chicago he said, "There is nothing more painful to me at this stage in my life than to walk down the street and hear footsteps and start thinking about robbery -- then look around and see somebody white and feel relieved.
Since blacks commit a vastly disproportionate amount of violent crimes, there is nothing new here.
It's hard to believe they're taking themselves seriously.
diversity.com says it all. It is the premier site for the race hustling industry.
Eurale, You are exactly right.
Let’s switch the test subjects to 70 year old white ladies and 17 year old white males wearing gang tee shirts. I bet I would tend to shoot at the 17 year old white males wearing gang tee shirts a lot faster than I would shoot at the little old ladies..... and psychologically or otherwise, it would have nothing to do with the color of their skin.
Blacks make up the single largest group of crime victims and most of the crime against them are committed by other blacks. Racism is for debates. Profiling is for survival.
I’m sure that with a little practice, he can get his reaction times faster. ;-p
Good grief...there is nothing to this “test” for anyone who focuses on what the person has in his hand rather than what he is wearing, the color of his skin, etc., as anyone who seriously wanted to win the game would do!
Btw, the designers of this “test” would be considered male bashers using the reported criterion for the test.
I found the test offensive in the notion that I should shoot anyone I observe to possess a gun, even if it is not being used the threaten me.
And the test is too long. Waste of time.
I’m a racist too according to that website............ and I’m black.
“...notion that I should shoot anyone I observe to possess a gun, even if it is not being used the threaten me...”
Excellent point.
I shot all of the pictures.
It didn’t say I was racist, but it did tell me I had other issues.
It does, but not for reasons this race baiting site says. It's because it takes longer for the human eye to bring dark colored images into focus. Add the pressure of "shoot or die" or loose points, and it's only natural to error on the "safe" side.
Just took the “test”. The key to “success” is to watch the hands. Color of skin had nothing to do with it...
I did, however, tag some dudes with cell phones that I shouldn’t have...
Regards,
I don't even look at the people, just for what they had in their hand.
This test is bogus
Maybe it’s rigged to make us all think we are racist, if we are stupid enough to believe the test rather than our own hearts.
“Im a racist too according to that website............ and Im black.”
I must be a self hating white guy since I shot unarmed whites faster than unarmed blacks. It’s also best not to hold a cell phone in my presence.

Silly test docked me for *not* shooting unarmed people too slowly. I found I did not look at people, but what they had in their hand.
Not sure why I’d get points for shooting the ones who were about to get run down by the trolley....
How do I know everyine with a gun is an enemy anyway?
Like I said, silly test.
A buddy of mine (yes he’s black, I’m white) did this test last week. Like the author, it turned out I was less of a racist than him!
However, I did insist this was a silly test.
I have to admit, according to today’s standards I probably am a racist.
I don’t like Illegal immigration. I think the black community has serious issues. And I can’t stand affirmative action.
Guilty as charged.

Fastest reaction time by far was black man armed. But also notice that the don't shoot reaction time was faster for a black man too. All I was looking for was a gun, if I saw a gun, shoot, if not don't shoot, I think I shoot an equal number of unarmed whites and blacks and got shot by an equal number of whites and blacks. LOL.
good score way better then me, I was too slow for the first 20 or so images. If you take the test be fast, very fast or you’ll get a poor score like me.
A lady called me yesterday to ask if I remembered a song from my childhood titled Would You Like To Swing On A Star.
We enjoyed a few memories about how popular the song had been, and how I used to sing it when I was growing up. She wanted me to go online, find it, and print it out for her to give to some of her great grandchildren.
I told her that my printer was on the blink, but I would email it to said grandchild to share with her children.
I had just hung up from calling her back when I saw your response to my post, and decided to mention it here. I had to tell her that the email didn't go through because her grandchild's email address has changed since the last time I emailed her, and I don't have the new address.
Poor lady was so relieved! She said that she had gotten to thinking about it, and feared the song, or her motives for sending it, might be misinterpreted and offend the grandchild or hurt her feelings! She didn't want them to think that she thought the children "needed to hear the song" for some reason!
Second thoughts about a sweet, fun gesture, purely motivated from a generous heart...she was afraid to share it. Sad, but it's a sign of the times.
I just shot everybody . . . .they should have a little blood splattering though !!! Much more entertaining !
That’s really sad :-(
They weren't drawing on me. They were exercising their right to bear arms in an urban environment.
Chicago people might think it's the right thing to do, but you can't just draw your gun on everyone who's carrying a gun. Northern Nevada would be a non-stop shooting gallery if that were the case, and it's hardly the way it is here. Cops here don't even look at you twice if you're toting a rifle around.
There was a famous court case of the old West. Two men were angrily arguing in a bar, when one coughed, then reached into his pocket. The other man saw him pulling out a shiny metal object, so shot him.
As it turned out, he had been reaching for a silver case which contained his tuberculosis medicine. The jury found the shooter not guilty, as it was a reasonable assumption that the man was reaching for a gun.
Even today, depending on circumstances as much as preconceived notions, most people would or would not have a similar response to such an action. It is situational judgment, and it is still reasonable.
If you were in a ghetto area, and angrily arguing with a strange, 70-year-old white woman, who then reached into her purse and grabbed something, wouldn’t you be in the least bit concerned that she might have a gun in there?
Now add other factors. Instead of 70, she is 22. And instead of a she, she is a he. And instead of dressed politely, he is wearing “tough guy” clothes. And his body language is angry and aggressive. And his speech is peppered with obscenities.
At that point, his color is almost unimportant, if he reaches for and grabs something concealed, most people will assume it is a weapon, not just think it might be a weapon.
A similar case can be made of the Rodney King event in LA. Mr King seemed to do everything he could to unnerve and upset the police who were chasing him. By the time he was apprehended, the police attacked him in a near frenzy. Had he quickly pulled over, he would have been citied for speeding.
I’ll also note that the comedian Chris Rock later did a video entitled “How not to get your ass kicked by the police.”

Not sure what this means. I shot two 'good guys'. I would have liked to have had some women and muslins in the mix, just for diversity.
Don't think so. I'm white, and shot white people quicker than black.
To be honest, I looked at the hands. Didn't seem to notice black or white.
“I’m white, and shot white people quicker than black.”
Same here. (post #8)
I was responding to someone who is black and said they would be considered racist according to the test.
Such tests don’t hold much credence with me. I know who I am, what I believe, and why I believe it.
